Support Duties
The allocation for Support has now been done and has been put on to Dutyman until the
end of the year. Please then arrange your own swaps if you are able to do a particular
day. If your duty either on Sceptre or Mitre in support of a race, please report to the
Race Officer for a briefing 30 minutes before Harbour Starts or 1 hour before
Committee Boat Starts.
If you find this impossible please send an e-mail to [email protected].
Frostbite Sailing
Autumn has at last reached us but after a good summer there is no need to stop sailing.
This weekend we start the Frostbite series that runs through to Christmas. The first
race is this Saturday (11th October) with a predicted southerly wind of force 4. On
Sunday it is meant to be a light westerly if a little cloudy. All the Frostbite series start
from the harbour with Saturday’s race starting at 13:00 with Sunday’s starting time
being 13:30.
If you just want to come down and potter this is an ideal opportunity as there will be full
safety cover put on the water. Please come down and enjoy.

October Half Term 25th – 29th Oct
The autumn half term is coming up. On the 25th October we have the last of the Ladies
that Launch sessions and we would like to expand this up for anybody to “Come Sail with
Us” either using your own boat or a club one. On Sunday if there are any adults that
would like to go out and get more experience we will have cover either to go in your boat
or have on the water training to build your confidence.
From Monday through to Wednesday we are offering any cadet that has their level 3 or
above to come down and have some on the water coaching with Jerry Summers or Robin
Lobb. This can be done either in your own boat, or in one of the club boats.
The times for this would be:Monday
11:30 to 16:00
Tuesday
12:00 to 16:30
Wednesday 12:30 to 17:00
There will be a small cost of £15.00 to cover fuel etc, which can be paid on the day. As
you realise at this time of year it will be weather dependent but we have had a good
season so far. Please could you e-mail [email protected] if you are interested with
some indication of what you would like to sail so we can get an idea of the numbers and
set up the course accordingly.
White Tenders on the Pontoon
There are a number of tenders moored on the eastern pontoon which are very difficult to
identify. Please can you make sure your tender is marked with your name, the boat it is
attached to and preferably a contact phone number. With winter coming on it is
important that we are able to contact someone if it requires moving or pumping out.
Cruising Section
Cruiser Walk on October 17th
We meet at The Chequers Inn, Rookley (situated on the Bleak Down Road at Bagwich
Lane junction. We have been asked to use the extension car park at back of main car
park (grassy area).
Starting at 10 00 the walk takes us through some of the quieter paths & tracks giving
sweeping views of familiar country from a very different aspect. There are 7 stiles and
we cross the river Medina twice. On our planning walk the ground was firm, but should we
have rain in the meantime there will be 2 wet sections which are passable with adequate
footwear. The gradients are gentle and we will be walking two short sections on tarmac
lanes around lower Rill. The total distance of the walk is 3.5 miles.
Thanks to Ian and Joy for researching the route and providing the details above.
Lunch has been booked for about 12:30 and The Chequers would like to know numbers so
replies to me by Monday 13th please.
