In this pursuit Research and Developmental (R&D) interventions made are regularly disseminated to the field for their successful adoption by the farmers. The extension workers play a pivotal role in the transfer of technology to the farmers’ fields. The successful dissemination and adoption of different farm technologies is crucial for the overall food, nutritional and ecological security of the country and has specific relevance to the states, each having their own challenges. The hill states, for example, face the problems of restricted extension services due to tough terrains, inhospitable climate and limited mobility. In such regions the extension workers face many challenges in the transfer of technology which can effectively be addressed through improved communication and management skills. The proposed short course on Communication and Management Skills is a step in capacity building and skill upgradation of the extension professionals. It is expected that the extension workers after successful completion of this course will be in a position to better deliver results towards dissemination of farm technologies to the farming community. About the University Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry has earned a unique distinction, not only in the country but also in Asia in teaching, research and extension education in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines with Himalayan perspective. It’s milestones in teaching, research and extension education have strengthened the path of sustainable development of horticulture and forestry in Himachal Pradesh and has presented a model for ecologically conscious economic development for not only the hill states of the country but also the entire Hindu Kush Himalayan region. About the Course The course has been designed to give participants an indepth yet specific exposure on communication skills, team management, entrepreneurship, negotiating, microfinance, conflict management, problem solving skills, leadership and interpersonal skills. The course schedule will include lectures, interactive exercises and sessions by resource persons from Department of Business Management, other relevant departments of the University and other premier institutes. Group discussions and interactions will also be carried out to make the course more useful. Objective The main objective of the course is to impart inputs on management and communication skills as may be relevant to extension professionals. The course will also provide opportunity of interaction between experts and participants from various universities/ organizations and to update extension professional with current management thinking and practice. How to Apply The application can be downloaded from the University website www.yspuniversity.ac.in. The guidelines for participation can be downloaded from the ICAR website (www.iasri.res.in/cbp/HomePage.aspx). Application for participation in the short course in the prescribed format and forwarded by the competent authority of the institute should be sent to the Course Director at the given address. Application not forwarded by the competent authority shall not be considered. Advance copy of application will be considered for final selection only after receipt of the original copy through proper channel by the last date of receipt of nomination. A postal order of Rs. 50/‐ (non‐refundable) drawn in favour of the Course Director payable at UHF Post Office, Nauni‐173230 must be sent along with the application. Last date of receipt of application is 11th October, 2014. The selected candidates will be intimated through Email/Fax and shall have to confirm his/ her participation immediately. Eligibility of Participants Teachers/ Researchers/Extension specialists not below the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent, working in SAUs /CUs/DUs /ICAR/ National Institutes having a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of extension education are eligible to apply. The candidates having M.Sc./ Ph.D. degree in extension education would be given preference. Only 25 participants shall be selected for the Course by a Screening Committee as per guidelines. Travel Allowances and Accommodation Participants shall be reimbursed travel fare by the shortest rail/ bus route restricted to maximum of ACII tier fare or bus fare on production of valid documents. The participants shall be provided free boarding and lodging in University Campus as per the ICAR norms. No DA will be provided during the short course. Location The main Campus of the university is located at Nauni on Solan‐Rajgarh road which is about 15 kms from the Solan town. Solan town is well connected by rail/ road and is 70 kms from Chandigarh. The climate in Nauni during July will be moderately hot with temperature ranging between 30‐35o Celsius, with frequent monsoon showers.
