Rules of Eligibility for Canadian Sport Horse Breed Classes – Ontario Chapter 2014 1a. To be eligible to compete in Ontario Chapter CSHA sanctioned shows, owners of horses must be: • Current Annual member of the CSHA and not in arrears to the Association, Ontario Chapter or any Ontario Chapter sanctioned events. • A current Associate Membership can be used as a once in a lifetime opportunity to show. It can only be used by first time CSHA competitors and is only valid for one show. Associate members cannot be in arrears to the Canadian Sport Horse Association, Ontario Chapter or any Ontario sanctioned events. An Annual CSHA Membership will be required for further shows. Annual membership must be held to acquire points towards year end awards. • Current member of the Ontario Equestrian Federation 1b. Riders and handlers must be OEF members. 1c. In all CSH classes, juniors must wear an approved helmet and are not permitted to show stallions other than colt foals of the current year. New for 2014 as per the constitutional changes voted on at the 2013 National AGM: 2a. Only offspring by CSHA breeding approved sire and dam are eligible to compete in Canadian Sport Horse Breed Classes, except as noted for Broodmare or Stallion classes. 2b. Mare: A mare, F1 or Higher, 4 years of age or older that has been CSHA inspected and approved for breeding and entered in the Mare, Premium Mare, or Main Stud Books, and must be a registered Canadian Sport Horse is eligible. A mare that had a foal die within two weeks of birth or lost a foal during the current year’s pregnancy shall be classified as a Mare for this class. (Previously known as Yeld Mare) 2c. Brood Mare: A mare three years of age or over approved for breeding purposes and has raised a foal in the current year. Mares inspected and entered in the Pre-Stud Book (F0) in addition to those mares inspected and approved for breeding entered in the Mare, Premium Mare of Main Stud Books are eligible. Mares must be a Registered Canadian Sport Horse to be eligible to compete in Mare Championships or Grand Championship classes. 2d. Stallions: Three years of age or over and approved for breeding purposes and licensed in the current year as a Canadian Sport Horse Stallion. Stallions entered in the Pre-Stud, Stallion or Main Stud Book. Stallions must be a Registered Canadian Sport Horse to be eligible to compete in Stallion Championships or Grand Championship classes. 3. Copy of identification papers must accompany entry form or provide proof that application (all documents and fees) for identification papers has been received by the National Office and that the horse is eligible to show as per 2 above. All requests for identifications papers must be in the office at least three (3) business days prior to a show with all the correct documentation and payment of fees in order for the entry to be eligible. If a pending letter is required, it is the owner’s responsibility to make the request and this request is to be made at least three (3) business days prior to a show as well. Pending papers cannot be verified by National Office or Directors of the CSHA the day of a show. 4. As a member of the WBFSH, the CSHA does not support dual registration, commencing with horses foaled in 2011, a horse carrying the brand of another breed registry or that is identified to have dual registration, including CSHA, will not be allowed to compete in CSHA breed classes unless the non CSHA papers are revoked. Written confirmation from the other registry showing cancellation of the second registration must be provided to the National Office. A copy of the confirmation of cancellation must be provided with the entry. 5. Copy of Negative Coggins test dated within the current year is required for all shows. Foals less than 6 months of age are exempt. 6. To qualify for year-end awards, the horse must have been shown at a minimum of 2 shows. Also, should it be discovered that any of the above Rules of Eligibility were not met by an entry; all points will be taken away from that entry for that particular show. 7. Copies of ALL required current memberships, negative Coggins test, payment, certificate of breeding for broodmares, and rescinding papers if required, must accompany entries before an entry can be considered eligible. All requests for CSHA memberships must be in the office at least three (3) business days prior to a show with all the correct documentation and payment of fees in order for the entry to be eligible. If a pending letter is required, it is also the owner’s responsibility to make the request. This request is to be made at least three (3) business days prior to a show as well. Please be aware that pending memberships cannot be verified by National Office or Directors of the CSHA the day of a show. Ashland Ring Rules 2014 1. Follow the ring steward’s directions. Please be prepared to enter the ring at the walk when your class is called. 2. Dress neatly and conservatively (absolutely no jeans or track suits). 3. Footwear: dark running shoes or flat soled shoes are best. 4. A short crop (30 inches in length max.) is allowed in the ring. 5. Speak to the judge only when spoken to. 6. No toys, lighters, clickers, puffers etc, are allowed in the ring. 7. Only one person can handle a horse throughout an entire class. For example, one person cannot jog the horse and another present it to the judge during the same class. 8. When in the ring, do not hold up the movement around the ring by conversing with other competitors and spectators. 9. Always keep an eye on the judging, as horses can get loose or kick out when jogging. 10. Unruly horses may be excused from the ring at the request of the judge or ring steward. 11. Drug testing can be requested of any horse in any class. 12. Please show respect for others in the ring at all times. 13. Juniors 18 years and under must wear an ASTM/SEI-approved equestrian safety helmet. 14. Please help us keep up CSHA standards by bringing your horses out well mannered, braided and impeccably turned out.
