Nyajure: new premises for an established Widows and Orphans service.
James Nyagudi, a retired bursar and Anglican lay reader, is one of a group in
another part of Bondo District who formed a Self-Help Group in 2002 for widows
and orphans. Many children lost both parents to AIDS and are dependent on
grandmothers. Often the grandmother is a widow, scraping a living from a
small plot of land with many mouths to feed. Each Saturday the Group takes
responsibility for the orphans: they meet in the mud-walled, tin-roofed Anglican
church for food, games and educational activities, giving their carers a break.
Now they have started to construct their own building and want to provide more
support for the widows, and training for their volunteers. They are asking approx.
£8,300 for the building and £5, 600 for the rest. 15p would buy one brick for the
building. £72 would equip a girls’ netball team with uniforms.
These 2 groups have so far supported their projects only with their own money
and small donations from The Bondo Fund. They have explained their needs
and itemized the costs in detailed Project Proposals.

TheBondoFUND
We’re a small charitable group, a committee of
seven people from six different churches in South
Manchester. Our audited annual accounts are available on
request.
So far we have sent over £7,700 to Kenya. We’re too
small to be a Registered Charity, but we’re working on it.

A Note from Henry Mayor
I was born and grew up in Kenya. My
father taught
there in Christian schools for 40 yea
rs. Janet and
James have been family friends sinc
e they first met
my parents. After I retired from parish
ministry I
visited their homes in Kenya in 200

& 2009, and saw the work they wer
e doing. Then I
formed The Bondo Fund to raise mo
ney for projects
such as theirs. Michael has been my frie
nd since 2007.
Because I know them all well, I am
confident that
any money we send them will be wel
