OSTEOARTHRITIS SUMMIT 2014 OSTEOARTHRITIS SUMMIT 2014 - 1 The organising committee welcomes you to the OSTEOARTHRITIS SUMMIT 2014 9TH - 10TH OCTOBER Kolling Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital Organising committee Meeting Chair: Professor David Hunter Professor Chris Little Professor Kim Bennell A/Professor Amanda Fosang Abstract Committee Dr Ilana Ackerman Professor Flavia Cicuttini Professor Changhai Ding Professor David Lloyd Dr. Nicole Walsh OSTEOARTHRITIS SUMMIT 2014 - 2 Program Highlights AROARA Workshop The Australian Repository for OA Research Action (AROARA) is a planned virtual biobank constituting a list of OA research tools and samples (biological, imaging etc) arising from pre-clinical and clinical OA research in Australia. The resources listed in the repository would be made available by their current holders to other researchers in an effort maximise OA research potential and outcomes in Australia. Following on from the discussions of the “OA disease phenotype” workshop at the 2013 OA summit, a small working party led by Professor David Findlay has prepared some initial documents regarding establishment of AROARA. The purpose of this workshop is to present the draft AROARA documentation for discussion and to co-ordinate optimal strategies and policies for its implementation and functioning. OA Management Policy Strategy meeting (invite only) Venues L’Aqua Situated on the rooftop of the Cockle Bay Wharf complex and only moments’ walk to the CBD, L’Aqua offers uninterrupted views over Cockle Bay and Darling Harbour and an abundance of natural light through its floor to ceiling windows. The Osteoarthritis Summit 2014 Dinner will be held in the terrace room. The Roof Terrace Cockle Bay Wharf Sydney NSW 2000 Buses to L’Aqua will leave from the Kolling building at 6.20pm. The Kolling Building The Kolling Building is located at the Royal North Shore Hospital and is home to the Kolling Institute of Medical Research. The day programs of the OA Summit 2014 will be held at the main auditorium on level 5. Kolling Institute of Medical Research The OA Management Policy – Strategy Royal North Shore Hospital meeting brings together private health St Leonards NSW 2065 insurers, government health officials, consumers and other key stakeholders to discuss and develop a consensus on the management of OA in the healthcare system. The desired aim of this meeting is to reach an agreement to progress to a co-ordinated private health and public health approach to improving GP identification of at risk patients and the early implementation or co-ordination of effective patient centred conservative management of knee and hip osteoarthritis. OSTEOARTHRITIS SUMMIT 2014 - 3 Key Note Speakers Professor Stefan Lohmander Professor Stefan Lohmander Professor Stefan Lohmander is Professor and Senior Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Department of Orthopaedics at Lund University Hospital, Lund University, Sweden. Professor Lohmander has published more than 250 scientific papers and serves on the Editorial Board of several international journals. He is a past President of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI). In 2006 he received the Bone and Joint Decade 2000–2010 Award for Research in Osteoarthritis, and the Marshall Schiff Lecture Award from the American College of Rheumatology, a special lectureship established to address the interface between rheumatology and orthopaedics in the area of musculoskeletal medicine. Associate Professor Kay Crossley Dr Crossley is an Associate Professor and Reader in Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. Her main research focus is on the prevention and management of patellofemoral pain and early-onset osteoarthritis after sports-related injuries. She is an APA Sports Physiotherapist, who worked in in a large multi-disciplinary sports medicine centre in Melbourne for more than 20 years and has contributed to a number of sports medicine and physiotherapy texts, including “Brukner and Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine”. Dr Crossley obtained her PhD in 2002 in the School of Physiotherapy, the University of Melbourne. More recently, Dr Crossley moved to the University of Queensland to focus on the development and prevention of osteoarthritis following sports related injuries, with fields in patellofemoral osteoarthritis following patellofemoral pain, knee osteoarthritis following ACL reconstruction and hip OA following hip-related injuries (including FAI and labral tears). Dr Kevin Cheng Dr Cheng is Head of Integrated Care and building a chronic disease program across Australia linking the acute sector to primary care to ensure complex patients are better managed in the community or home setting. He has helped design and set up integrated care programs in Australia, and previously led a consortium of 23 organisations to implement an Australian Department of Health-funded Diabetes pilot to test new models of chronic disease management across 8,000 patients and 1,000 clinicians. His background includes advisory roles at McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group, working across a range of industries and leading large business transformations in healthcare, mining, manufacturing, retailing and banking companies. In health, he has led strategic reviews and operational programs in Health Departments, hospitals, pharmaceuticals and primary care organisations in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and across Asia.
