GPD 2015 CALL FOR PAPERS
Business – Innovation – Design
TO THE POINT
The GPD Call for Papers to the 2015 Conference is out.
For this 15th conference we take pride in bringing some special
new features to a reshaped Conference format in response
to past participant feedback and organizer experiences.
In these times communication is everywhere. It is vital to
streamline the program and ensure that valuable views are
well heard and registered. For this purpose we bring interactivity
between participants to a new level permitting instant polling
of opinions. We will also further boost the networking services
by offering one-on-one meetings that can be booked before the
start of the Conference. With the key top specialists in attendance
the GPD stands out as the only world-class forum of its kind
where opinions can be readily offered and obtained. The mood is
set for bringing professional issues to the point and for
maximizing meeting efficiency.
On issuing this Welcoming Message and Call for Papers I would
like to take the opportunity of reminding our participants of the
old saying “less is more”. In this context I see the Conference as
an opportunity to voice bold, to-the-point opinions and crystal-
clear messages that can be picked up by our interactive
communications and networking systems. There simply is no
better place to secure feedback from glass industry policy
makers than the GPD. In staging the 15th Conference it is also
clear that we represent unique accumulated know-how of how
our business has developed over decades. But every day – and
this time also – is a new story. Technology and industrial
practices do not stand still. We get together to witness to that
very fact and to the power of business, innovation and design.
Welcome to Tampere in June 2015.

Workshops
23–24 June
2015
GPD workshops are intensive 4–8 -hour courses with each focusing
on techniques and skills in a particular field (e.g. pre-processing,
IGU, tempering, solar glass, structural glass facades, etc). The main
emphasis is interaction and exchange of information among relatively
small groups e.g. the number of participants for practical workshops
will be limited from 5–15 persons and 20–50 persons for theoretical
workshops.
As the organizer you have the freedom of choosing the topic, based on
the conference overall theme, and decide on how you would like to run
the workshop. You have also the right to choose who you wish to attend
the workshop from those registered for it.
Workshops are organized free of charge!
Please note! The content of the Workshop
CANNOT be commercial.
For some more information on
how the workshop may be organized,

Facts
about
Finland
The Land of The Midnight Sun
General info
Climate
Finland is a republic which became a member of the European Union
in 1995. Its population is 5.3 million. Finland is the sixth largest country
in Europe in area, with a low population density of 15.5 persons per
square kilometre. The capital Helsinki has 561 000 residents. Finland is
an advanced industrial economy: the metal, engineering and electronics
industries account for about 60% of export revenues, the forest
products industry for about 20%.
One notable effect of Finland’s northerly position on the globe
is that the four seasons of the year are clearly distinct from
one another.
Nature
Forests cover three quarters of the country’s surface area of 338 000
square kilometres. Other outstanding features of Finland’s scenery
are some 190 000 lakes and approximately as many islands.
Geography
Finland is situated in northern Europe. A quarter of its total area lies
north of the Arctic Circle. Finland’s neighbouring countries are Sweden,
Norway, and Russia, which have land borders with Finland, and Estonia
across the Gulf of Finland.
14
GPD 2015 – Innovation • Business • Design
The climate is marked by cold winters and warm summers.
The highest daytime temperature in southern Finland during
the summer occasionally rises to almost 30 degrees Celsius.
During the winter months, particularly in January and February,
temperatures of minus 20 Celsius are not uncommon. In the far
north, beyond the Arctic Circle, the sun does not set for about
73 days, producing the white nights of summer. In the same
region, during the winter period, the sun remains below the
horizon for 51 days, creating the polar night.
