JASSO conducts various surveys on student support in order to improve its programs and
contribute to the development of government measures.

Survey on Student Life
■Survey on student life (every two years)
A survey on the student life such as student life expenses, income, scholarship, etc. of university students.
Surveys on Scholarship Programs
■Survey on scholarship programs implemented in Japan (every three years [proposed])
A survey on the scholarship programs provided by schools, local public organizations, private organizations, individuals, etc. in Japan.
■Survey on attributes of the scholarship loan recipients who delayed repayments (every year)
A survey on the attributes of the persons who delayed repayments of scholarship loans of JASSO.
Surveys on International Students
■Annual survey of international students in Japan (every year)
A survey on the enrollment of international students in universities, etc. in Japan.
■Survey on international students' career and academic degrees (every year)
A survey on the careers of international students after graduation and the academic degrees received by
international students at graduate schools.
■Survey on Japanese students studying abroad based on student exchange agreements (every year)
A survey on studying abroad of Japanese students based on student exchange agreements between Japanese universities, etc. and foreign universities, etc.
■Survey on short-term international students (every year)
A survey on the acceptance of international students for short-term study of less than one year at universities, etc. in Japan.
■Survey on international students enrolled in short-term educational programs (every year)
A survey on the acceptance of international students for short-term education programs of less than six
months at universities in Japan without the aim of earning degrees.
■Lifestyle survey of privately-financed international students (every two years)
A survey on the standard life of privately-financed international students who study in Japan.
■Follow-up survey on Japanese students who have studied abroad (as necessary)
A survey on the motivation for studying abroad, the sense of accomplishment, the method of gathering
information on studying abroad, career options after studying abroad, etc. of the Japanese students who
have studied abroad.

of Japan.

Student Support Donations
JASSO supports motivated and capable students so that they will not give up pursuing their studies due to
financial reasons, and also implements various student support programs comprehensively to promote and
support exchanges among international students, and enhance the support for students at universities.
The "student support donations" will be used for those programs of JASSO.

●JASSO Students of the Year
With donations it receives from many individuals and organizations, JASSO gives a prize to students with
outstanding achievements in the fields of academic study, cultural and artistic activities, sports activities,
and social contribution activities for the purpose of encouraging, supporting, and fostering promising
individuals who will lead the future of Japan. In FY2013, JASSO recognized 16 students for the Grand
Prize, 16 students for the Excellent Prize, and 17 students for the Student Encouragement Prize.
Donations for "Global Human Resource Development Community"
Based on "Japan Revitalization Strategy - JAPAN is BACK -" approved by the Cabinet in June 2013, etc.,
JASSO will actively support Japanese students studying abroad by creating a new support system for
studying abroad by a joint effort between the government and the private sector. This program will provide opportunities to study abroad to all motivated and capable young people.
The donations for "Global Human Resource Development Community" will be used for this support program.

●Japan Public-Private Partnership Student Study Abroad Program (TOBITATE! Young Ambassador
Program) (newly established in FY2014)
Using the donations it receives, JASSO provides scholarships for studying abroad to Japanese students
enrolled in universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, technical colleges, and specialized training colleges (post-secondary courses) in Japan. This also includes pre- and follow-up-training of studying
abroad, and a network of international students as a place for learning and exchanges after studying
abroad, in order to improve the quality of their experiences. (FY2014: 300 Japanese students will be supported to study abroad.)

with the functions of academic exchange, such as international conferences, lectures,
academic meetings, film screenings, and concerts.

This facility can be used for all types of conferences and meetings, including lectures, film screenings,
and round-table conferences using the seats on the lower floor.
