Killers of Eden
An amazing story of killer whales is told in the book Killers of Eden by Tom Mead.
For almost 100 years the same pack of killer whales returned to Twofold Bay and
assisted local whalers during the whaling season. The killers became a local legend
and were known by distinctive names such as Stranger, Humpy & Cooper. Old Tom –
the leader was remarkable for his organising ability and his skeleton is preserved in
the Museum.

Who Lied?
The Ly-ee-moon disaster is one of the enduring mysteries of the sea. The passenger
steamer broke up on the night of 30 May 1886 after hitting a reef south of Eden.
Seventy-one passengers and crew perished, fifteen -- all males -- survived. The night
was clear, there was a moderate ocean swell and a westerly wind. The Green Cape
lighthouse beacon was flashing directly above the wreck site. Either the captain of the
Ly-ee-moon or the third officer who was in charge of the ship at the time, lied about
the circumstances of the wreck. This book describes the tragedy of the Ly-ee-moon
and explores the conflict between the two protagonists.
