CLASSES
EXPOSURES 101
ISO, Shutter Speed, & Aperture
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Camera Specific Class
In this two hour session we will be discussing the fundamentals of exposure:
Shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Those three features of your camera are what
make the picture look the way it does. Understanding how and when to use
them is a huge advantage. This class takes a deeper look into Program, Aperture
Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes. Using these modes, you can explore
the creative side of your camera while also gaining a lot of control over your DSLR.
Start telling your camera what to do instead of hoping it does what you want.

EXPOSURES 201
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Exp. 101
Picking up from where 101 left off, we
take an in-depth look at how shutter
speed, aperture and ISO effect various
photographic situations. We break down
difficult situations to shoot and how to use
your exposure compensation controls to
get the picture you want. We will also talk
about ‘stops’ of light and how you can
have equivalent exposures to a scene. We
explain why shooting in Manual Mode may
be the best option for some situations.
Other topics will include how shutter
speed affects flash, bracketing, metering
modes and locking your exposure.

EXPOSURES 301
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Exp. 101 & 201
In this two hour hands on class, we will continue
to explore the options available to you for
controlling your exposures. When do we want
to shoot in Aperture Mode? Shutter Priority?
Why does setting your ISO, shutter speed and
aperture manually give you the most creative
control over most photo situations? We will
experiment with the different modes by taking
some photos in the class and outside. Using
your speedlight/flash, we will explore how to
balance your flash exposure with the overall
scene indoors and outside. The instructor will
give you advise and critique of those photos as
you shoot. This is a valuable class to attend for
anyone wanting to master creative exposure
techniques and to take their images to the
next level.

Length: 2 hours
Using a Secondary Flash and Light Modifiers
Suggested Prerequisite: Exposures 101
Cost: $99/person
Length: 3 hours
This class is for anyone who has a desire to
improve their efforts when taking portraits.
We’ll discuss lenses, apertures, depth of field,
equipment, posing, and lighting techniques.
This is a class that owners of DSLR and
mirrorless cameras will find most useful;
however, some of the higher-end point-andshoot cameras are often capable of making
portraits as well.
Suggested Prerequisite: Exposures 101 & Understanding Flash Photography
Would you like to learn the full capabilities of your speedlight? In this hands on
workshop, bring your camera and external flash and let our instructors share their
vast experience using speedlights with you. You will learn how to use various light
modifiers like umbrellas, softboxes, and snoots including Gary Fong and Rogue
products . We will discuss wireless options for using multiple flashes, adding
colored gels for creating a “mood” and how to use your flash properly outside to
fill shadows. Let us show you how to control your external flash to dramatically
improve your photos.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Landscape, Macro, & HDR
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Exposures 101
This class combines three popular topics:
Landscape Photography, High Dynamic Range
(HDR), and Macro Photography into one class
perfect for that big trip. Landscape photography
topics will include composition, depth of field,
filters, lighting and locations. Capturing a wide
range of tones in your image is difficult with a
digital camera. We will introduce you to HDR
photography, which allows you to combine
multiple images to make use of the full tonal
range in the shadows, mid tones and highlights.
We will discuss all of the ways to get the best
macro photographs including different lens
choices, focusing, composition, and other topics
involved with macro photography. Bring your

the tools, how to enhance your photos, and selecting within an image. Using a
pre-chosen set of common problem pictures, you will see what these tools
can do. An introduction to how layers and layer masks help you control your
image editing will be explored. In the second two-hour class, we will continue to
expand on using the tools in the program and demonstrate the power of layers,
layer masks, and making composite images. We will spend time learning about

In the first two-hour session, using our in-class
computers, we will review the interface and
show how to customize it to streamline your raw
processing workflow. We will review how to import,
catalog, organize and process your digital files to
your liking and export your files as jpeg, tiff, and
Photoshop files. Did you know you can set your
color balance after you shoot with a raw file? In
our second two-hour class we will process files
showing you how to make several “versions” of the
same file to explore your creative possibilities and
how to selectively edit certain areas/tones/colors of
your file (bring in a few of your raw files on a USB
drive or CD so we can show you some options
on how to process them). Do you have hundreds
of images that you want to process and want to
know how to speed up the process? This is the
#1 software pros and serious photographers use
to get the best quality from their raw images and
batch process multiple images at once.
