 Hey Newport-Let’s all wear ORANGE together on Wednesday to support school unity and efforts to end bullying and harassment.
 Knight Pagers Book Club meets this Wednesday, Oct 22 in the library at 1pm. We will be discussing the book Four by Veronica
Roth. This is the newest release in the Divergent series. Everyone is welcome.
Do you love the ocean and want to learn more about it? Join Newport’s first ever Ocean Science Team. We will be competing in
Washington state’s own “orca Bowl” to demonstrate our awesome ocean knowledge and marine science literacy.
Thursday (10-23) is National Chemistry Day (aka MOLE Day!)—Have a MOLE-velous day from all the Chemistry teachers!
College Visitors today:
Harvey Mudd College and Duke University - 1st lunch in the counseling center
Case Western Reserve University – 2nd lunch in the counseling center
Vassar College, Simmons College, Reed College – after school in the lecture hall

General Announcements:
 29th Annual Newport High SKI SWAP 2014-Volunteers Needed!: We need Student Volunteers. Students earn community service
hours. Friday, Nov 7th ~ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Saturday, Nov 8th ~ 9:00 pm – 5:00 pm. PTSA’s biggest fundraiser! Over the Years,
Ski Swap has provided over $700,000 to NHS. We need approximately 120 Volunteers ~11 different jobs ~ 619 shifts ~ 4 day period.
We need both student and parent volunteers in all areas. Fill out the Volunteer form at: http://NewportSkiSwap.com
Lunch/Breakfast: Hey Newport, did you know that we have breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays? We do this year! Are you finding
you just don’t have time to eat breakfast or make a lunch in the morning? Worry no more - you can get a nutritional breakfast and
lunch Monday - Friday in the Newport cafeteria. Breakfast is only $2.75 and lunch is mere $3.50. Free and reduced rates are
available for those who qualify.
Work site learning: If you have a part-time job, sign up in the counseling center for high school credit under work site learning
program. Counseling Center has a clipboard.
Orchestra Concert Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:00 pm in PAC
Washington Aerospace Scholars: Are you interested in a STEM based career? Then come to an informational meeting about
Washington Aerospace Scholars after school in room 3103 on Wednesday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m.
Newport Boys Swim and Dive Team: All Students interested in being a part of the Newport Boys Swim and Dive team - State
Champions 2014, please attend an information meeting on Wed 10/22 at 12:45 in the commons area. if your son can not make this
meeting, but is interested in getting information, please send us an email to [email protected].
Newport Idol: Hey Newport! Auditions for Newport Idol are Tuesday, October 21st. Sign up for an audition time and get an
information sheet in the main office. Someone listening to this announcement right now will be our next Newport Idol. Will it be

Students who walk or bike to school: As the mornings get dark and rainy, please be as visible as possible. Remember that drivers
may not see you! We applaud you for getting here under your own power and we want you to get here safely!
Homecoming pictures are in! Come by the main office to pick up the pictures that you purchased during Homecoming Dance!
NHS CLUBS

Heifer International: We meet every other Thursday. Come help fundraise money for livestock’s in other countries! Meeting on
October 23rd in Room 3111 at 3:10!
Red Cross Club: Hey guys, come join Red Cross and learn about how you can help natural disasters! Come to room 1102 every
other Monday at 3:10. There will be food provided.
Key Club: Want to meet new people and earn community service? Join Key Club! We meet every other Tuesday at 3:10 (10/14 &
10/28) in the Lecture Hall. See you there!

Art Submissions for the Newport High School 2014/2015 REFLECTIONS program are underway. “This year’s theme is The World
would be a better Place if….” Turn in your Photography, Visual Arts, Music Composition, Film, Dance and/or Literature entry by
Tuesday November 21, 2014. Newport High School will host an Art Gallery/Reception recognizing all Newport Art Entries in January
2014. Entry forms are available at http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/Reflections. Submit art in the red Reflections Art Box in
