An Admissions Rep from Gonzaga will be in the Career Center on Wednesday, October
22nd at 12:24 and from Whitman at 1:14. If you are interested in attending Gonzaga or
Whitman, or just want more information on these academic institutions, plan on coming to
these presentations.
Does shadowing a nurse on their patient rounds, following a pharmacist throughout the
hospital, or watching a pathologist and their assistant work in the medical laboratory sound
interesting? These are just a couple of the amazing opportunities provided by the
Providence St. Peter Youth Council! If you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior interested
in any sort of medical career—free your schedule on Tuesday, October 21 during
Core/Flex. There will be a presentation at that time about the 2014 program, how you can
gain medical experience, AND earn a scholarship!

October 23rd at 6:30 pm. Must RSVP at 1-888-MSU-CATS to attend.
Winter Sports Clearance begins November 3rd. The ASB office will begin accepting Sports
Clearance Packets for Boys Basketball, Girl Basketball, Girls Bowling and Wrestling. If you
have already cleared for a Fall Sport then all you need to do is bring the $75.00 fee to the
ASB office and we will move their clearance packet to the new sport. If you are participating
in a sport for the first time this year then you need to bring the completed Athletic Clearance
Packet to the ASB office. The fees include $35.00 for an ASB card (if you have not already
purchased) and $75.00 pay-to-play fee. The Athletic Clearance Packet can be found at the
THS Website/Athletics/Tumwater Athletic Clearance Packet. If you have any questions,

The Tumwater Police School Resource Officer, our own Detective Liska, is hosting a
Pioneer Bowl Tailgate Party on Friday, October 24th from 4 pm – 6 pm at the Tumwater
Stadium. Come before the game for food and fun.

Student for 10 days in January, contact Mr. Hess. The experience will be a blast,
memorable, and enriching for your whole family. See Mr. Hess in room A-35 now—there

Evergreen, SPSCC and St. Martin’s are hosting three college planning seminars for anyone
interested in learning more about the college search, financial processes, application and
essay writing. October 22nd is “Financing College” at SMU.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars offers their Voice of Democracy Essay Scholarship Program
to students in grades 9-12. Record an original essay, 3-5 minutes, on this year’s theme,
“Why Veterans are Important to our Nation’s History and Future.” Application due by
October 29th.
The Lions Clubs of South Sound offers their Youth Exchange Program Essay Contest to
students age 16-21. Must be 16 by 7/15/15. The high school student who submits the
winning essay regarding “Freedom: What It Means To Me,” will win an expense paid trip to
one of eleven countries of their choice, during the summer of 2015. Application is due
October 27th, but the essay is not due until December 31.

University of Puget Sound Tennis Pavilion. Open to all students and is free. Over 150

Evergreen, SPSCC and St. Martin’s are hosting three college planning seminars for anyone
interested in learning more about the college search, financial processes, application and
essay writing. “Essays and Applications” seminar is on October 15th at SPSCC and
October 22nd is “Financing College” at SMU.
Are you a graduating senior who is planning on attending WSU, have a very high GPA, high
SAT or ACT scores and demonstrate exceptional community, civic, and co-curricular
involvement? If so, see Jana about the WSU Regents Scholarship by Monday, October
13th.
The Olympia School District Career and College Fair is on October 29th. Over 90 Colleges,
Universities, Military Options, Career Options and Apprenticeships will be in attendance.
This free event runs from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Capital High School.
The 2014 Tacoma College Fair is on Thursday, October 30th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the
University of Puget Sound Tennis Pavilion. Open to all students and is free. Over 150
colleges from the U.S., Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom will be there. Great way to
meet representatives from multiple colleges and universities.
SCHOLARSHIPS –
The Veterans of Foreign Wars offers their Voice of Democracy Essay Scholarship Program
to students in grades 9-12. Record an original essay, 3-5 minutes, on this year’s theme,
“Why Veterans are Important to our Nation’s History and Future.” Application due by
October 29th.
The Lions Clubs of South Sound offers their Youth Exchange Program Essay Contest to
students age 16-21. Must be 16 by 7/15/15. The high school student who submits the
winning essay regarding “Freedom: What It Means To Me,” will win an expense paid trip to
one of eleven countries of their choice, during the summer of 2015. Application is due
October 27th, but the essay is not due until December 31.
Seniors – the Tumwater Lions Club Educational Scholarship Application is now available in
the Career Center. Application is due October 31.
COMMUNITY SERVICE – 30 hour required to graduate.
Olympia Parks and Recreation offers multiple opportunities for cleaning up city parks
Wednesdays and Saturdays in October.
East Olympia Elementary needs help with their Annual Harvest Fest on October 18 th.
Volunteer hours available from 6 – 9 pm, and more if you want to help set up and tear
down. If you are a senior and want to apply for the East Oly Alumni Scholarship, you must
have done some volunteer work at East Oly so take advantage of this opportunity.
Peter G. Schmidt Elementary needs set up, clean up, running games help with their Fall
Festival on Friday, October 24th from 5 – 9 pm.
The Briggs YMCA holds a harvest party every year for the community and this year it is
Friday October 24th. It is a free event and takes many volunteers to make it happen.
Volunteers help set-up, run games or etc., and clean up from 5 – 9 pm.
