ABSTRACTS
CADWORX
Automating orthos and layouts using OrthoGen - Presented by Chris Parkin / Massimiliano Vaccari / Nicolas Lamy
OrthoGen is a tried and tested product that has been on the market for several years and is now available for CADWorx. Let us show
you how, using predefined OrthoGen Styles, you can generate drawings in minutes that would take hours using traditional drawing
production tools and techniques. With OrthoGen, learn how to set up orthographic drawing styles and have your plans and elevations
generated automatically with dimensions, line annotations, elevations and much more. If you generate plan and elevation drawings
from your CADWorx models, join us to look at this highly automated approach.
Educating unintelligent objects - Presented by Chris Parkin / Massimiliano Vaccari / Nicolas Lamy
Although CADWorx has an extensive library of components to select from sometimes you need to show something in your models that
is not “off the shelf”. In this session you will learn how to build specification based user shapes required for any project. You will also
learn how to turn any AutoCAD object into an intelligent CADWorx object using generic attach. Join us and see how to develop more
accurate plant models by allowing you to create intelligent representations of your unintelligent objects.
Demystifying ISOGEN configuration - Presented by Chris Parkin / Massimiliano Vaccari / Nicolas Lamy
ISOGEN is the industry’s de-facto standard for the production of piping isometrics from 3D models created in plant design systems,
including CADWorx. For many users however, ISOGEN configuration can be something of a mystic art or black box!
New ISOGEN Configuration aims to simplify the customization of piping isometric drawings and reports produced by ISOGEN. ISOGEN
Configuration provides an intuitive, visual approach to setting isometric drawing style properties and provides easy access to ISOGEN’s
substantial array of controls and files. Pick graphically the options you want and immediately see the impact spontaneous style modifications have on drawing output using the built-in drawing previewer.
ISOGEN Configuration de-mystifies ISOGEN and unlocks its powerful capabilities in a user friendly way, making it easier for CADWorx
users to set-up their project deliverables. In the first part of this session you will see how this new addition to I-Configure makes configuring ISOGEN, simpler, easier and faster!
All components output on ISOGEN isometric drawings are defined by a unique code called a symbol key (SKEY). ISOGEN uses an
in-built SKEY library to draw the various piping components on the isometric. Many of the symbols in the library can be changed or
redefined, whereas others are fixed by the program and cannot be changed.
Every component in a CADWorx specification needs to have a default ISOGEN Symbol key (SKEY) assigned. Sometimes you may want
a different representation of the component on the final isometric. To do this, you can either redefine the library symbol if it can be
changed, or you can create an entirely new symbol and substitute it for the default symbol.
The second part of this session will teach you all you need to know about ISOGEN SKEYs and how the latest Symbol Editor works.
Driving productivity with CADWorx automation - Presented by Chris Parkin / Massimiliano Vaccari / Nicolas Lamy
As project schedules and budgets continue to get shorter and tighter, automation will continue to be a key driver in an organisation’s
ability to increase productivity, avoid errors, and lower costs. Time and effort spent optimising CADWorx before a project starts is an
investment that will pay dividends across the entire project, not only enabling users to work more efficiently and cost-effectively during
the design phase, but also ensures higher quality information is handed over to the downstream project phases.
CADWorx offers a number of automation capabilities that companies can take advantage of – such as use of part numbering and
naming schemas, piping rules, custom pipe supports and assemblies, custom data etc. - which, combined together, help companies
to ensure that their designers produce consistent, accurate high quality designs in accordance with company and project standards.
This session will show you how to configure these capabilities so that you can employ and benefit from them on your next project.
CAESAR II
The CAESAR II piping model, how good is it? - Presented by David Diehl
Some might say any model that produces results is a good model but a nice picture does not guarantee a proper evaluation of the
piping system. This session describes what you can expect out of CAESAR II in terms of its beam bending approach, expected accuracy
of the results, model sensitivity and model verification.
Expansion joints in CAESAR II - Presented by David Diehl
There are many ways to include expansion joint assemblies in your CAESAR II analysis including the simple “zero-length” joint, the
convenient Expansion Joint Modeler and the complex, detailed model. Which one is appropriate? This session reviews the different
types of assemblies available and also discussed the wide range of modeling detail you may wish to use. We will cover the path
through the entire process – from calculating demand, selecting the joint, creating the model, and evaluating the joint.
Program configuration is part of your input, too - Presented by David Diehl
In addition to the specific model data there are many general controls that can be set for all CAESAR II analysis at the folder level. These
settings reside in the Configuration File (CAESAR.CFG). Based on your project requirements, your out-of-the-box settings here may not
produce the necessary results. These configuration switches provide latitude in program operation. This session examines the many
settings found in “Config”, some which may improve or simplify your work.
Modal screening - Presented by Duncan McElrue / Nicolas Lamy / Enrique Savoini
Piping systems in operation can experience vibration problems that typically cannot be predicted during design due to the infinite
possibilities of sources of the vibration. A good indicator of how susceptible a piping system will be to vibration is its first natural
frequency. Modal screening is a technique to use a piping systems first natural frequency as a likelihood of failure. This session will
briefly cover the basic dynamic concepts used here, followed by a review of the modal analysis input parameters. The accuracy of
the (static input) piping model will be discussed. Finally, using the natural frequency calculation as a simple screening tool for system
reliability, this will wrap up this presentation.
PV ELITE
Designing for vacuum - Presented by Mitch Sklar
The differences in design for internal pressure and external pressure, and why vessels are so susceptible to vacuum collapse when
subjected to the external pressures. Also discussed will be the method used by the ASME Section VIII, Division 1 to analyze a vessel
when vacuum conditions exist.
Expansion joints in heat exchangers - Presented by Duncan McElrue / Nicolas Lamy / Enrique Savoini
Heat exchangers having tube sheets welded (fixed) to either end of the exchanger shell (the shell side) experience both shell and tube
axial stress as a result of the different temperatures between the fluid in the shell, and the fluid in the tubes. These stresses impose
high bending stresses in the tube sheets. The solution is to insert a flexible element in the shell so that the thermal movement can be
accommodated, thus partially separating the expansion of the shell and the contraction of or vice versa. Two types of expansion joints
exist: the thin expansion joint has many thin walled convolutions, and the thick joint has one or two thicker walled convolutions. This
session will cover a brief history on the evolution of the expansion joint before comparing the two types of joints used.
CODE Case 2695 & comparison between ASME Division 1 & Division 2 - Presented by Mitch Sklar
Using Code Case 2695 can save money and weight as ASME Section VIII, Division 2 technology is used for designing vessels to Division
1, without the extra requirements of Division 2. A comparison of Division 1 and Division 2 is also discussed.
PV Elite 2014 and ASME SEC VII Division 1 & 2 Edition 2013 changes - Presented by Mitch Sklar
PV Elite 2014 had been updated with ASME SEC VIII Division 1 & 2 Edition 2013. All updates in PV Elite 2014 relevant to ASME SEC VIII
Division 1 & 2 will be discussed and evaluated through demonstration.
