Social Hour and Dinner: After an
hour of socializing at Lung Fung’s buffet, President Clarence Smith had Noble
Bob Easterling ask God’s blessings on
our endeavors and led the group in
Pledging Allegiance to the national flag.
There were 16 members and guests present.

Minutes: The August 2014 meeting
minutes were approved as published in
the newsletter.
Membership: Secr etar y Kestler r emarked that we had received an email
forwarded by the Potentate from the
Oriental Guide describing the success of
the Circus’s Information Table. The
table was set up to provide the public
information on the Shrine and Masonry
in general. Since OG Triggs was present, he reiterated the results:
“… We were able to collect three
Shrine petitions for membership,
18 men popped the correct question wanting to join our Masonic
Fraternity, and we even received
three contacts from young men
wanting to join the DeMolay organization ...”
Claims & Accounts:

Treasurer Abb Kestler reported that he
had written three checks totaling $397
for Tailgate supplies and made two deposits totaling $185 from Tailgate and
50/50 donations. There was a $5 service charge for online access to deposited checks. Our account balance as of
September 17th was $3,014.42.
Noble Triggs is going to need help from
mentors. Establish a log in at Shriners
Village and sign up to be a mentor in
membership services. He can then contact you when a candidate needs a local
mentor.
After a motion by Noble Gary Bausell
and a second by Noble Paul Lemon, the
members voted to accept the Treasurer’s report pending audit.

Halloween Party: Noble Tr iggs
announced that Alzafar’s Halloween Party is scheduled for Thursday, October 30th from 6 – 8 pm. It
will be a lot of “scary” fun for the
kids and grandkids.
Magic Show: Pr esident Smith
reported that the contract has been
signed by the Potentate. A show
date has not been set.
Birthdays & Anniversaries: Noble Jason Triggs has double celebrations – a birthday on the 5th and
an anniversary on the 10th. Noble
Gary Bausell had a birthday on the
7th.
Sickness & Distress:

Noble Lyle Schichner: It was
good to have him back –couldn’t
miss a Chinese buffet! He was
using a walker and still suffering
discomfort from his fall.

Noble Lewis “Knuckles” Gimbel is still having consider able
back pain and will be consulting
with his surgeon.

Lady Ann Easterling is also
suffering from back problems
and will also be consulting a surgeon to investigate her options.

will kick off with a MM degree by
Davey Crockett Lodge at 8 am and
end with a dance in the evening.

are invited.

Tucker reported that this year’s Circus was a success and that the “pie”
tradition was doubled.

Understanding Engineers!
To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it
needs to be.
What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons; Civil engineers
build targets.
The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?”
Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
Two engineers were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking at its top.
A woman walked by and asked what they were doing."
We're supposed to find the height of this flagpole," said Sven, "but we don't have a ladder."
The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a couple of bolts, and laid the pole down on the ground. Then she took a tape
measure from her pocketbook, took a measurement, announced, "Twenty one feet, six inches," and walked away.
One engineer shook his head and laughed, "A lot of good that does us. We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"
Both engineers have since quit their engineering jobs and are currently serving in the United States Congress.
A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.
The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!"
The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!"
The priest said, "Here comes the greens-keeper. Let's have a word with him." He said, "Hello George, what's wrong with that
group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"
The greens-keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last
year, so we always let them play for free anytime!"
The group fell silent for a moment. The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if here's anything she can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

Firefighters typically respond to approximately 2,400 structural fires caused by gasoline annually in the
U.S. These fires cause more than 100 fatalities and more than 313 injuries.
The most common causes of unintentional fires involving gasoline involve:

Spills
Using gasoline improperly
Having or using gasoline too close to a heat source
A spark or flame from another source (operating equipment, a match or a lighter)
Following a few safety tips can help keep you and your children and grand children safe:
• Keep gasoline out of the sight and reach of children.
• Never allow children to handle gasoline.
• If a fire starts while handling gasoline, do not try to extinguish the fire. Leave immediately and call
911.
• Do not store or use gasoline near potential ignition sources (electrical devices, appliances that use
oil or natural gas, any device that has a pilot flame)
Store gasoline outside the home in an approved container.
Store only enough gasoline needed to power equipment.
Never use gasoline inside the home.
Never use gasoline as a cleaning fluid.
Clean up spills immediately and discard clean-up materials properly.
Do not smoke when handling gasoline.
Never use gasoline in place of kerosene.
Use caution when fueling vehicles.
Never, Never fill an appr oved gasoline container setting in the bed of the tr uck static electr icity will
ignite the fumes.
