Between Your Heart And Mine

Between Your Heart And Mine
Roy Hurd
It is crucial to keep the road between two hearts clear, clean, and beautiful.
I woke up to read the words you wrote
The feeling filled my willing heart with hope
I want to keep it honest when it comes to how we feel
In your arms it's all so warm and real
Chorus:
When the sun goes down this evening
And the stars begin to shine
Even though I can't be with you know that you own this heart of mine
Though it got a little banged up lately
Through it all it's plenty strong
It still beats true and steady and it wants to be your home
So if love is what you’re sayin' then let’s put in the time
And together we'll build a beautiful road
Between your heart and mine
We'll learn the road with every step we take
And heal our hearts with all the love we make
It's not for the destination or trying to get somewhere
If it's you and me then we're already there
Chorus
I woke up to read the words you wrote
Email Letter
Roy Hurd
This is the song about how Amy and I first connected and fell in love. I wrote this for our
one-year anniversary. Sometimes you just have to write down exactly what happens.
Those are the best songs.
Started out simple with minimal risk
I sent it out in cyberspace with a New Year’s wish
It came right back to me baby straight from you
You said the mountain sky was singing Adirondack Blue
We wrote back and forth day after day
My appreciation for email grew in a major way
So I came home early no I could not wait
The thought of spending time with you felt way too great
I pulled into your driveway
Saw you smile
We kissed in your kitchen
My heart went wild
Chorus
This is how it should be
The way love moves between you and me
My heart to yours and yours to mine
The music plays in such beautiful ways
Ah the rhythm of sweet romance
Baby I love the way you dance
It's been three whole years since that email letter
This love we found it just gets better and better
We still kiss in the kitchen over garlic and ginger
There's sapphire and diamonds on your left ring finger
Your laugh your smile that cute little dimple
I love you completely baby pure and simple
When I play guitar you shuffle your feet
Heart wide open ah you move so sweet
Slow sway
Eyes closed
Head back
Love shows
Chorus
Found My Paradise
Roy Hurd
I wrote this on my old D18 Martin. Over the years so many songs came to me with that
guitar. It was great to get another one on it.
Nothin’ like a new love song
Played on an old guitar
Baby we can't go wrong
No not from where we are
If I was given one last wish
It'd be me and you forever lovin' like this
Chorus:
Baby it's been years
Since we first touched
My heart spills over
I still feel that rush
When you look at me
With so much love in your eyes
That's when I realize
I found my paradise
Ten thousand roads
I've rolled down
Some lead nowhere
Some roll back around
I remember sweet thoughts of you
I'd have gotten here sooner
If I only knew
Chorus
You’re the only one
You own the key
That unlocks the door
To this beautiful dream
I'm glad I did
Whatever it was
For you to give me
Your sweet love
Chorus
Her Love
Roy Hurd/Meadow Merry
I got the first couple of lines to this song on my way to spend time with Meadow. We
wrote it about our respective loves. We got so inspired by it that we wrote a second
song the same day. That one will be on a future project.
Her head’s in the clouds
There's stars in her eyes
She smiles like the moon
Pulls me in like the tide
She captured my heart
So easy and slow
Like a warm spring breeze
Like sun melting snow
I know there's a reason I stopped believin'
But she's got me dreamin'
Chorus:
About love
The kind that will heal
When your mind steps aside
And your heart takes the wheel
Love
That falls like a star
And changes the world from right where you are
She's got me believing in
Her love
This whole world’s gone crazy
Upside down inside out
The fate of these days
Is so fragile and full of doubt
But she takes my hand
Turns off the news
She holds me so close
All I see is the truth
I know there's a reason I stopped believin'
But she's got me dreamin'
Chorus
Joyce and Ricky
Roy Hurd/Amy Kohanski
Joyce and Ricky are fictional characters Amy and I made up one morning while we were
hanging out at the love shack. Part of the song was written while taking a trip on my Harley
Road King, inspired by the freedom and adventure of a bike ride. Writing this story was fun. I
guess there is a little bit of a vigilante in us all, a sense that doing what is right is more important
than following the law.....
Joyce put red lipstick on her sassy little mouth
Her and Ricky headed to the county courthouse
They were not going there to get married by no justice of the peace
They were turning themselves in to the local police
For two years runnin’ they played a dangerous game
But they stood behind every single choice they ever made
Against the wrong they saw they made their stand
With a steel grip they took the law into their own hands
Harry McGregor was a powerful man
But his daughter wore the bruises from the back of his hand
He did things to that child that we can't even say
Except for Joyce and Ricky the whole town looked the other way
One night Joyce and Ricky took that little McGregor kid
To an aunt in the next county and they told her what Harry did
They went back and beat up Harry and tied him to his bed
Wrote a note for the cops and left him there for dead
Chorus
They were wild like the wind and free like the birds
Till they made that choice to save that girl
Their whole world it changed in just one night
You gotta do whatever it takes to make things right
They hit the road runnin’ the cops hot on their trail
They wouldn't be locked up and they couldn't pay no bail
From state to state they traveled underground
They made it their mission to right every wrong that they found
To some they were heroes to others outlaws
But to them it was justice in a system that's flawed
They were already wanted they had nothing to lose
So Joyce and Ricky made national news
Word came down for the state DA
They were turnin’ themselves in at two o'clock today
The whole town was waitin’ as they rolled in
Wavin’ and cheerin’ and that made Ricky grin
They took ’em out of the car and slapped the cuffs on their wrists
But before they did Joyce turned around and blew the town a kiss
A reporter asked Joyce if she had anything to say
She said we did what was right so let the chips fall where they may
Chorus
Lady In The Garden
Roy Hurd
Is it just me, or is there nothing more beautiful than a golden tanned barefoot woman
working in the garden on a hot Adirondack summer day?
Lady in the garden
Moves just like a butterfly
From flower to flower
She smiles as she flutters by
Red ripe tomatoes hang perfect on the vine
Like a full breasted woman in the freedom of the morning time
Her fingers smell like basil
Her breath like sweet snap peas
Barefoot and beautiful
Come over here and kiss me please
Her lips taste like summer rain soft as a cloud
Our hearts are spillin’ over ah love is such fertile ground
Chorus:
It all comes down to the same conclusion
Livin’ with the mountains and the trees
Baby say's it's all just a beautiful illusion
It's the perfect one for me
Lady in the garden
Spinach kale and collard greens
Sun tanned skin and dirt stained knees
Food for our dinner table we bow our heads in grace
A homegrown gift from heaven ah thank you God I love this place
Chorus
It all comes down to the same conclusion
Thinkin’ ’bout her and me
If this is all just a beautiful illusion
It's the perfect one for me
Light On The Shadows
Roy Hurd/Amy Kohanski
We all have shadows in our minds that need someone or something to shine light on
them. I started writing this for Amy, then she got in and wrote part of it for me. I have
always said if we could see ourselves through the eyes of those who truly love us, we
would love ourselves more, have more respect for, and take better care of ourselves.
When self-love eludes you and your doubts they confuse you
Allow me to show you how beautiful you are
Your eyes are like oceans deep with emotion
Your smile lights my world like a bright shining star
I make it my duty to search for the beauty
I write it all down baby that's just what I do
In all that I've witnessed in this life I've been blessed with
I've never seen anything more beautiful than you
Chorus:
This love that we're makin’
These steps that we're takin’
This life that we're shapin’ yours and mine
I'll be right beside you as those old hurtful tapes unwind
And I will shine
Light on the shadows in your mind
I will shine
I wish you could see you the way that I see you
You'd feel how my heart feels when you’re in my arms
Your fears they would fade and they'd all be replaced
By the strength that the truth brings as your doubts are disarmed
You'll sidestep the trouble and let go the struggle
You'll learn that dance baby that's just what you'll do
There's a peace you will feel and your wounds they will heal
You'll get there I know baby I believe in you
Chorus
Rainbow Man
Roy Hurd
This is an older song of mine that I wrote when I first got home from Nashville. I came
up with this title thinking about the Merle Haggard song, “Rainbow Stew.” I am so glad
this song ended up on the CD. I have always loved it.
When that cold wind blows and the dark clouds come
When that hard rain falls don't you worry none
I'll be there to cover you till the sun shines through again
Count on me baby I'm your rainbow man
Chorus:
I'll be your Picasso lover
Paint your world them big bright colors
You will never ever see another shade of gray
Even when that sun don't shine
Right there between your heart and mine
There'll be a painted rainbow shining every single day
Hey hey
I know there'll be days with too much blue
A real rainbow man knows what to do
Add a splash of yellow sunshine
And a bright red romance plan
There's your rainbow and I'm your rainbow man
Chorus
So don't you worry ’bout those threatening skies
Rest your weary heart baby dry your eyes
Storms will come and storms will go
That's the way it's always been
Through ’em all I'll be your rainbow man
Chorus
I'm your rainbow man
Your rainbow man
Red yellow and blue
Green and purple too
Baby take my hand
I'm your rainbow man
Roll Back Home To You
Roy Hurd
This song is my life: the twists, turns, uphill climbs, and downhill grades. I love writing
my songs and playing them for all you folks. Then I roll back home to her.
If I think too much about your touch and how it feels
When I think about your kiss I’ll wanna turn these wheels
Around
And roll back home to you
The sound of your voice is like heaven's bell
And if I was standing at the gates of hell
And you called my name
I would roll back home to you
Chorus:
It's a five-hour drive to where I'm going
And there's a hundred people waitin' there for me
They wanna hear all about this life of mine
How it moves and how it rhymes
They pay good money just to hear my songs
So I don't wanna let ’em down
Baby know that you will be right there with me
Cause your love is my melody
Livin' what you love is such a powerful thing
My life is held together by a guitar string
I play
Then I roll back home to you
In your arms darlin’ that's a sacred place
Heart to heart yeah face to face
So true so I roll back home to you
Chorus
So when you go to sleep don't blow that candle out
Put it in the window so the light shines out
For me as I roll back home to you
As I roll back home to you
I'll roll back home to you
Two Wheel Hillbilly Outlaw
Roy Hurd
This one is for Chuck, Carl, Charlie and all my Harley riding friends. As Charlie used to
say, “Keep it rubber side down and shiny side up.”
I headed out for Nashville I was hungry for the ride
By the time we left the mountains my pony hit her stride
We rumbled through Virginia in her soft southern grace
When I saw the lights of Nashville I yelled let the music play
Chorus:
I'm a two wheel hillbilly outlaw
I let my pony run
Two wheel hillbilly outlaw
I worship at the church of Harley Davidson
I rolled up to Kentucky ’cause there's no helmet law
The wind blowin' in my hair felt so good y’all
When I got back to Tennessee I slid that bonnet on
That night I grabbed my guitar and started writing down this song
Chorus
My buddy Chuck Wood calls his pony Betty Lynn
When asked how much he loves his bike he grins a big ole grin
He says I just hang out in the garage so her and I can flirt
If that bike was a woman I'd be lifting up her skirt
He's a two wheel hillbilly outlaw
He lets his pony run
Two wheel hillbilly outlaw
He worships at the church of Harley Davidson
I finally got the feeling it was time to get back home
There always comes an end to when the restless have to roam
I saddled up my pony and I never once said whoa
Cause there's a hot-blooded woman waitin' by the old wood stove
Chorus
