We are working very hard to reduce our carbon footprint and save trees! Our newsletter will be
different for the next 3 months as a way to test our ability to edit and encourage folks to stop in
and ask your favorite front desk staff for info about center activities. So much of the newsletter
is repetitive information. We will have the basic info available and feature special events as
well as advertise within the center through flyers and announcements. Please be
patient with these changes as we work on eliminating waste of massive copies,
printing costs, and hours of staff work time. We want to find a “formula”
that is informative and earth friendly too!

Thank You So Much!!!!
Thank you to Hawthorne Funeral Home and Services
Owner Kirk Duffy was here to talk about our bond with our pets and many
services offered when they pass on. We love our pets!
Debbie Kanske is fantastic! Debbie generously donated the beautiful , quilt
that is offered as our Autumn Raffle Prize. Debbie is a master quilt
seamstress and we are fortunate to have her as a friend of BSC!
Special Thanks to Where the Heart Is for sponsoring music each
month! We are so grateful for our wonderful community
partners!
HATS OFF to Jodee Cable and Annette Tait for making hats all year and
donating them to Burlington Senior Center. The hats are
extra warm and so affordable. It’s never too early to be thinking about the
holidays and at $5.00 each, these hats make great gifts! All proceeds go to the
operating budget of BSC. THANK you Annette and Jodee!
The Bridge in Mount Vernon also kindly sponsors music once a month. BSC
folks love live music and being able to provide more of what you love makes us
happy!
Thank you to the family of Mary Hanson who celebrated her life here at BSC
with all of her friends. We will miss Mary .
We will miss you, Midge Burtt! Our sympathies go out to Midge Burtt’s
family. Midge was a “fixture” here at the center and rolled all of the daily
silverware. Midge served on the Advisory Board, and also worked as a front
desk receptionist. She will be greatly missed.

October ART Classes ~ Landscapes With A Kick - Dee Doyle, Instructor
Doing art -whether music,
painting,
writing, dance,
whatever -can contribute
During October, the acrylics and watercolors classes will take a fresh look at how to
create interesting landscapes, traditional and representational, or more abstracted and
impressionistic, through design, color, form, and expression. Each week, we will focus on
various aspects of color, design elements, and new techniques that will translate to
exciting Northwest landscapes, seascapes, and urban streetscapes. Both acrylics and
watercolor classes will be using traditional complements of supplies and materials. Classes
are ongoing, but you may “drop in” when you can. Acrylics classes are scheduled for
Thursday afternoons, 12:30 pm to 3 pm, at the Burlington Senior Center. Watercolor
classes are scheduled for Friday mornings, 9:30 am to noon. Cost is $15 a class.
If you need information on supplies and materials, please contact Dee at
[email protected], or 360.630.0208.

I walk in our building each morning and I hear the bustle of the kitchen and
anticipate the daily activity, the stories I will hear, the friends I will see. Sometimes a
hug, a funny comment. I can hear the front desk staff
consoling someone after hearing of a difficult diagnosis, a family hardship or
struggle. As Autumn leaves are falling and holidays are looming, I am reminded of
the many reasons this building is a here today. It’s
because of YOU! Yes, you reading this article. Maybe you are sitting at home after a
delivered Meals on Wheels lunch, maybe you are just
finishing the exercise class or even helping “red pen” this constant work in
progress, we call the newsletter. Regardless, I hope the pet photo show, the
classes, or meals have been fulfilling and have enhanced your life. Our advisory
board and myself want to serve YOU. You are the reason we open these doors.
You are awesome!!!
A dear friend just reminded me of the quote:
Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone
in the light. -Helen Keller
Remember this on these dark mornings and evenings.
