Scootin’ Along with CD Rick
As I sit down to write this article, I gaze out the window, and it is very clear the weather
is definitely changing. The leaves are falling and the trees in the yard are dropping all
their apples and pears (the apples are almost gone). I guess it is really turning to fall.
Sadly, it may soon be time to put the bike away. However, we still have some rides/
events coming up.
If you missed the Chapter V 30th Anniversary Party, you really missed a good time.
First, congratulations to our 2015 Couple of the Year, Mac and Mona McCaulley!!
We are very proud of them, and honored that they will represent our Chapter for the
coming year.
The Anniversary Party Committee (headed up by Colleen Badour) did a great job
putting things together. They worked very hard, and because of that it was a great
time. Dianne Williams did a terrific job planning and cooking the meal. Thanks to
everyone who brought all the nice gifts for the games, Glenn and Sue Wegner for all
their hard work with the Chinese Auction; Dennis Lange did a great job converting the
bike from the Rally into a M*A*S*H ambulance, Tracy and Jim for stepping in and
handling 50/50; George Williams graciously filled in at Rider Ed; Lenny and Connie
were not able to be there, but had provided Rider Ed gifts for prizes, and Jim and
Cindy Pozenel headed up the fun games.
I often wondered last night - did any of the patients make it through the operations?
Radar was not able to make it to the party, but Max Clinger sure did (check out the
pictures on the Chapter V website). Thanks to all for their hard work, and everyone
else’s for making it a success.
There have been several rides over the last month - I sure hope that you made them.
The weather was great for the Hartwick Pines ride. There were at least 12 bikes, and
several Chapters attended as well. George and Dianne put on a great lunch for all that
attended.
The ice cream rides ended this year how they started - cold and damp. The last one
went to Tiny's Ice Cream Shop. It was cold, but there were three brave bike riders and
two cars that met for the ice cream. The fire in the fire pit was smoldering, so we stood
in the store and talked.
The riding season may be coming to a close soon, but we still have a lot going on. We
have Chapter Y and Chapter F-2’s Anniversary Parties, a color ride, and cruise/drive in
at the Big Boy in Bay City. We will also have card parties and dinner rides coming up.
Keep a look out on the calendar. Until next time, ride safe and always have fun.

The Power of the Wave…
One of the first words we learn as a baby is HELLO, which is one of the most powerful and
rewarding words. It is definitely better than saying goodbye. Saying HELLO to someone
when you first meet them immediately puts them at ease and you start a conversation on a most
friendly word. What does saying HELLO have to do with riding motorcycles and riding them
safely? Well, let’s look at this just a little deeper.
First, let’s agree that a FRIENDLY WAVE is the same thing as saying HELLO. It seems to
me one of the first things we learn when we start riding with GWRRA, next to food and ice
cream, is that the members are one of the most FUN loving, patriotic, hugging and WAVING
group you will ever to know. When out riding, a friendly WAVE to other motorcycles is
letting them know we both enjoy the same thing. When we extend a friendly WAVE to other
road users, including pedestrians, it makes them notice us. That’s exactly what we want, to
SEE and be SEEN. It also lets the recipients of our WAVE know that we are a friendly group
and enjoy people. A WAVE to a child is worth gold. They will notice, wave back and tell their
parents so now the adults are aware of our presence. We have been SEEN.
Oh, nuts, that person didn’t WAVE back so I’m not going to WAVE anymore. NO… NO…
NO… keep WAVING as not only do you want the person to whom you WAVED to notice but
also the tons of other observers out there as once again we want to be SEEN. Friendliness is so
rare nowadays; it’s disarming, so use the WAVE to let people know that we are FRENIDS out
having FUN. Respect begets respect and a WAVE will help you start a lot of conversations on
your outing. You never know, you may meet the same person you just waved to at your next
stop.
The simple WAVE can be our first step on being noticed on the roadways. Join us and start
WAVING even more than you do now. Not only will you see a lot of people smiling at you,
the WAVE will put you and your co-rider in a very happy frame of mind. Just try it, you may
like it.

Chapter that
has the most
FUN!!
The greatest honor in GWRRA is being selected by your peers as Couple of
the Year, an honor reserved for those whose hard work and dedication to
your Chapter and GWRRA is recognized by your friends.
Chapter V's 2015 Couple of the Year are Mona and Mac McCaulley. Mona is
the one who takes (and posts) 95% of all the Chapter V pictures, makes
special gifts for give aways and prizes, makes unique bags for all the
kidnapped mascots, puts the last month's rides and events on a disk to
display at our Gatherings, provides nummy food for many Chapter, District
and Region functions, and serves as Chapter Historian. This past year, Mac
has been instrumental as Chapter Assistant Ride Coordinator. He helped
plan and organize many Chapter rides, as well as helping with the District
Rally rides. He worked to ready our campsite for the Rally, as well as
helped break everything down.
We are so proud of them and excited they will represent our Chapter for this
coming year.
Congratulations and (very) well done!
