Homecoming Assembly October 20th at 7 pm. You need to be there if you are nominated and there will
be some amazing acts!!
Homecoming Royalty voting will be next Monday October 20th during lunch and after school.
Hanford's yearbook, The Gyre, is making an effort to include seniors who are talented, unique,
and representative of our senior class in this year's senior section of the yearbook. We want
your input! Nominate seniors who you think deserve to be included in the yearbook and tell us
what makes them special! Submissions are due by 11:59 pm on Oct. 24. Submissions can be
made by going to www.tinyurl.com/hanfordseniorstories. You do not have to be a senior to

Hanford Reflections Student Art Contest
Here's your chance to have your creative work judged on a school, district and possibly nationwide basis. Submit your work interpreting this year's theme, "the world would be a better place if
…" by Wed. Nov. 12 in the Hanford main office. Contest Rules and entry forms can be found in
the main office and on the wastatepta.org website, under Programs, Reflections, and Forms,
links. Categories include visual arts, music composition, literature, dance choreography,
photography, and film production. Students who are eligible under the ADA can enter in the
special artist division in any of the above categories. Student work will be displayed at Art
Reception on Nov. 25th outside the auditorium.

BOYS OPEN GYM

Open Gym Boys Basketball for Monday night, October 20 has been cancelled. This is due to the
Homecoming Assembly! All basketball players and all students should go see a great assembly on
Monday night, October 20! See Mr. Mayer with any questions.
All boys interested in playing BASKETBALL this season at Hanford should stop by and sign up with Mr.
Mayer. There is a mandatory player and parent meeting on Monday, November 3. Stop by and sign up
and receive an information sheet.
Girls Bowling season is only two weeks away! And HHS is again well staged to go all the way to State
Championships. All HHS girls are welcome. No prior bowling experience is necessary. So, grab some
friends and have fun while improving your game and showing some Falcon spirit. All new and returning
bowlers make sure to register online and take care of fees and requirements before the first day of
practice Monday, November 3rd at Atomic Bowl @3:00.
Winter Sports Online Registration begins on Monday, October 13th. All students interested in
participating in basketball, wrestling, boys swim and dive, and girls bowling MUST register
online, have a current physical, have an ASB card and pay the $55 sport fee prior to the first
day of practice. For information on how to register online, go to hanfordfalcons.org and click on
Sports. Also, check with Mrs. Branson in the office to make sure your physical won't expire
before the end of the season. If you registered online for a Fall sport, you still need to update
your information online and choose a winter sport to try out for.

All Link Crew Leaders! There will be a Mandatory Link Crew Meeting on Wednesday, October 22nd

you will meet in Mr. Gilbert’s class (RM 2605). We have also given you the option to meet before school
at 7:30am in Mr. Gilbert’s class (RM 2605) if that works with your schedule better. Please wear your Link
Crew T-Shirt this day to help remind everyone that we have a meeting.

New To HHS This Year:
The Knitting Club will be held on Wednesday’s in Ms. Swanson’s Room 1405 from 2:30-3:00. If you want
to learn to knit or crochet stop by and check it out. There’s no fee to join.
DECA club meetings will be every Tuesday in Mrs. Shively's room 1202. DECA is a business and
entrepreneurial club where you will learn everything from presenting ideas in front of business executives,
to preparing you to execute the perfect interview for any job in your career. DECA has annual
competitions and conferences in various cities and states, where you compete in executing what you've
learned at home. It’s fun, exciting, and engaging. So if you want to be proficient in the business world, join
DECA!

RECYCLE CLUB
Recycle Club meets on Fridays directly after school. It only takes half an hour of your time, and it's really
beneficial to our school. If you are interested, we meet in Mrs. Stordeur's room at 1:30PM
Parents can also help HHS Recycle Club by purchasing supplies or recycling ink cartridges at Staples.
Just give the cashier the school’s telephone number, 509-967-6500, and Recycle Club will receive credit.
So far with our credit, we have been able to purchase blue recycle containers.
Last year we recycled over 125,000 lbs of material!!
Engineering Club is for all students interested in Robotics, programming, circuitry, business, and
whatever other engineering activities you want to do. Students are free to come even if they have
absolutely no engineering knowledge or experience!
Engineering Club meets on Thursday nights @ 6:30 in Mrs. Stordeur’s room #2610. We learn about
robotics, programming and other cool electronics.
Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to
provide service, build character and develop leadership.
Key Club meets every Monday night @ 7:00 in the HHS Commons. Membership fee is $15.00
10/20-No Meeting
10/27 key club fee must be paid ($15) to be an official member.
Trick or treat for UNICEF, our key club goal is project eliminate which helps eliminate neonatal tetanus
Knowledge Bowl meets on Wednesdays at 2:30 PM in Mr. Wilsons Room (2013). Come test your wits
and learn new information in a friendly yet competitive setting. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on
experience.
ECOLOGY CLUB
Ecology Club meets every Wednesday at 2:30 PM in Mr. Johns' classroom #2613.
It's a lot of fun if you're not afraid to get down and dirty!
It's never too late to join, so come hang out at Ecology Club!
JSA stands for Junior State of America and is a nationwide organization that provides an avenue for
teens to debate and discuss government and politics. It's a great way to learn more about our government
and become a better public speaker. Come check it out!
JSA meets every other Monday in Ms. McKee’s Room #2007 @ 2:30 PM
International Club meets every Tuesday after school in Mrs. McKee's room 2007. All students welcome to
attend! Come meet the foreign exchange students and learn about different cultures!
French Club meets the second Wednesday of every month during both lunches in Madame Sant's room
2203.
We meet every Monday from 2:35 to 3:30 PM, at Mrs. Moursund's room, 1537.
Math Club picture on Monday, October 20th. We meet in classroom 1537 right after school or just come to
the library and meet us at the lobby.

BUDDY CLUB
Buddy Club is a fun club that unites students with and without disabilities. Come to learn more of what it is
all about. There is no fee to join the club. Buddy Club held is every Friday during both lunches in Mr.
Manka's room, room 1532.
Buddy Club is a fun inclusive club for students that has different events throughout the year including:
going to the movies, having a Monster Mash, going bowling, and having a huge prom for Buddy Clubs
from high schools all over the Tri-Cities.
FROM THE CAREER CENTER
Did you know that Richland School District has purchased a program that offers on-line Peterson's
practice PSAT, SAT, ACT and ASVAB tests? You can practice these tests from home or anywhere you
have access to internet. Stop by the Career Center for more information.
November 5th is the National College Fair in Spokane. Juniors and seniors can attend this event for just
$20 which will cover busing. Space is limited so pay bookkeeping now to secure your spot for this
awesome opportunity. See the counselors for more information.

Remind those who missed the meeting to pick-up handout and to go the the registrar to complete a card
for your diploma--Mrs. DePeel/Mrs. Bell. Seniors in Language Arts, Mrs. Bell has been making the rounds
to your classes. If you missed her, you, too, need to go to the registrar's office.
SENIOR BABY PICTURES
Seniors! Baby Ads are due Oct. 31! If you/your family is interested in submitting a baby ad for the yearbook, here are the steps:
1. Pay $50 to bookkeeping either in person or online.
2. Submit your favorite color picture with a message. We prefer that you scan and submit it digitally to the email above, making
sure you scan at 300 dpi. If you submit a picture, we’ll scan it. Please do not give us a priceless picture, though.
3. Submit your message of no more than 300 characters digitally at tinyurl.com/hanfordbabyads
Photos should be school appropriate, and even if they’re cute baby shots, please don’t send naked baby pictures.
Please don’t paper clip or staple the photos or write on the backs. The ink can bleed onto another photo. If you would like
your photo returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope adequate for the return of your photo. We
will return the photos after the pages and the proofs are finished--sometime during second semester.
All of this must be done by Oct. 31! If you have any questions, stop by room 1103 or email [email protected].
