Red Hatters
Our Red Hat chapter, The Ruby Gems of the Valley, is a
fun loving group of women 50+ who have decided to
approach life with vim and vigor. A red hat and a purple
outfit is all that is required to bring out the best in everyone with lots of laughter and smiles!
June—A group of Red Hatters strolled around the
beautiful gardens at Elizabeth Park and enjoyed
lunch at the Pond House. Thank you Queen Lynda.
August—Queen Robin arranged a trip to the CT
Historical Society to view the exhibit on Katharine
Hepburn’s wardrobe followed by lunch at Effies.
Sept—Queen Lynda arranged a tour of the Governor’s Mansion and the Sculpture Gardens.

Garde Arts Center, New London
Prior to the 3 PM show, spend time at Mohegan Sun Casino and receive a $10 Meal voucher. All American & Clean
Cut was the signature of The Lettermen. Known for their
easy listening vocals, The Lettermen will be performing
many of their gold record hits at the Garde Arts Center. $84
Registration required for all trips. Sorry, no refunds on day
trips unless a replacement is found.

The fastest growing sport among seniors. It combines elements of tennis, badminton and table
tennis. The court is badminton size, the net is 36
inches high, and a Wiffle type ball is hit with a
short handled paddle. Interested in having fun

Medicare Patrol (SMP) volunteer, JoAnn Cephas. Learn how to avoid becoming a victim in three easy steps:
Protect, Detect, and Report. Meetings
are individual and must be scheduled in

AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers Needed
AARP Tax-Aide Program needs volunteers to
help prepare tax returns at our Senior Center
for the 2015 tax season. Must have computer
skills. Experience isn't necessary — we'll train
you on the latest tax preparation forms and
software.

Canasta (Modern American Style) - This class provides instruction on Tuesdays, 10-12 N.
Canasta (Modern American Style) - Open play for experienced players on Thursdays, 10-12 N
Chess Club —Bring a friend and drop by to play a game of chess on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 12-3 PM.
Farmington River Wood Carvers—Enjoy wood carving. Instruction & materials provided. Mondays 10-12 N.
Friendly Folks—This group of friendly ladies likes to get together Fridays 10-12 N to chat, knit, or crochet.
Pool Players—Mondays 10-12 N Co-ed, Wednesdays 10-12 N Men, Fridays 10-12 N Ladies
Mah Jongg (American Style)—Played with 152 tiles, racks and a scoring card. Meets Wednesdays, 1-3 PM.
Mah Jongg (Filipino)—Played with 144 tiles, no jokers,16 tiles/hand. Players meet Thursdays 10 AM-12 N.
Movies—Flyers to be posted for the current movie(s).
Party Bridge—Enjoy playing bridge? Join this experienced group on Tuesday afternoons, 1-3 PM
Scrabble/Quiddler—Challenge and expand your word power with a game on Mondays 1-3 PM.
Stained Glass—7 week fall classes will begin in November . Registration and fee required.
Wii Bowling—Openings for new bowlers on Tuesdays 10-11 AM and on Wednesdays 10-11 AM.

Bible Study—Non-denominational group meets Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30 AM. Bring any version of the Bible.
Book Discussion Group—meets 1-2:30 PM on the 3rd Thurs. of the month. Join this friendly group as they discuss: Oct. 16, Lone Wolf by J. Picoult, Nov. 20, Ordinary Grace by W. Kruger, Dec. 18, The Kitchen House by
K. Grissom. Books for 2015 to be determined.
Current Events Discussion Group—Participants are asked to bring local, national & international news topics
for discussion every Wed., 1-3 PM.
“Salon” Discussion Group—This French word used in 1664 denotes a gathering in a large room. Join us for
lively discussions on all subjects from the past to the present & serious to the light hearted. Wed., 1-3 PM.

Exercise Programs– Minimum Enrollments Required
Tai Chi for Health—Tues. 10:30—11:30 AM. Low impact exercise. Healthful & harmonious movements tone &
increase muscle flexibility. Improve fitness and balance. Exercises done standing.
Exercise with Lorie—Tuesdays 11:30-12:30 PM. Exercises focus on activities of daily living, muscle conditioning, stretching along with breathing and relaxation techniques. Program is done seated with some standing.
Qigong— Thursdays, 10:30-11:30 AM. Use movement to stimulate flow of chi, increase vitality and promote relaxation. Increase flow of blood to the various organs. Exercises done mainly seated.
Power & Fitness—Thursdays 1:30-2:30 PM. Move to the music for a mild cardio workout. Strengthen the major
muscle groups using hand weights and stretch bands. Bring your water bottle.
Zumba Gold—Tues 9-10:00 AM & Fridays, 10:30-11:30 AM. Enjoy the health benefits of dancing to Latin music.

Socialization & Recreation Group
Farmington Community Services invites all
older adults who would benefit from socialization to join us every Tuesday, 1:30-3:00 PM at
the Senior Center. We use different media:
music, fun food activities and arts & crafts.
