Objective
Your research team is asked to build-up a joint project in relation with the element presented in the
discussion topics of the ISCRAM summer school program book (page 23).

Assumptions
The issues presented in the discussion topics correspond to identified needs expressed by the endusers
Aim of the exercise - Basic training of participants in project development
First phase: bring together expertise in different fields related to disaster management in order to
develop a concrete project proposal for the enhancement of the VO
Second phase: test the relevance of the projects by online submission on VO to the end users of the
platform, including VO managers
Third phase: explore the feasibility of the projects, depending on the interest of involved stakeholders
(individuals, academic institutions, OCHA, potential donors)
Methodology
Participatory: bring together the development/research team, the platform managers, the end-users
and the sponsors
Interactive: allows improvement and adjustments of the project based on a community of interest
Specific roles within the teams and responsibilities
► Facilitators: guide and frame the discussion - make sure that try to find a consensus and take
decision if agreement is difficult – ensure that project proposal is delivered in time for the
plenary session
► Reporters: present to the plenary the project proposal and the essential points that were
discussed
► Note takers: wrap-up the project proposal according to the template and put it online in the
Virtual OSOCC for further discussions within the wider VO community
► Whole team: quality and feasibility of the proposed project
