BACB Supervisor Training Workshop – Bobby Newman, PhD, BCBA-D (Room to Grow)
Time: 12:30-5:00 pm and 5:30-9:00 pm
Location: Broadway 1
Cost: $200 per participant
This 8-hour supervision training fulfills the BACB requirement for BCBA Supervisors by establishing the purpose and
important features of BCBA supervision. The training will also review the need for supervisory training experiences
and provide practice in some sample activities. Additionally, ways to evaluate the effects of supervision and ways to
encourage ongoing professional development of supervisees will be provided.
(8 Supervision CEUs provided) *This training program is based on the BACB Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline but
is offered independent of the BACB.
Ethics for Behavior Analysis: A Review of Key Areas – Frank Cicero, PhD, BCBA (Eden II Programs)
Time: 4:00-7:00 pm
Location: Broadway 2
Cost: $50 per participant
Knowledge of ethical practice and procedures is a necessary component of any professional field. The BACB has
ethical standards to guide behavior analysts in their practice. This workshop will highlight the most common ethical
issues included in the BACB ethical guidelines. Active discussion will be a large part of the workshop. This workshop
fulfills the BACB’s ethics CEU requirement.
(3 Ethics CEUs provided)
Evaluating Programs Based on the National Standards Project and Evidence-Based Practices for
Individuals with ASD – Michelle Hickman, PhD, BCBA-D and Jennifer Toomey, PhD (Summit Educational Resources)
Time: 4:00-7:00 pm
Location: Broadway 4
Cost: $50 per participant
In 2014, the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders (NPDC) updated their
autism intervention literature review, Evidence-Based Practices for Children, Youth, and Young Adults with Autism
Spectrum Disorder. The workshop presenters participated as volunteer reviewers during this update. This workshop
will begin with a review of findings from the NPDC project, a comparison to those of the National Autism Center’s
National Standard’s Project (for which the presenters also volunteered), and an explanation of criteria used for
evaluating practices. Using focused discussions and interactive activities, participants will learn strategies for aligning
their own practices with those outlined in the report and for developing evaluations of those practices that would
meet the criteria outlined in both reports as providing evidence of support. (3 CEUs provided)
On Becoming Fully Verbal – Gladys Williams, PhD and Richard Laitinen, PhD, BCBA-D (The David Gregory School)
Time: 4:00-7:00 pm
Location: Broadway 3
Cost: $50 per participant
The purpose of this workshop is to walk through the required stages of language acquisition. Research has shown
that basic prerequisites greatly enhance an individual’s ability to develop functional language. These skills include;
discriminating voices, face recognition, eye contact, and visual tracking. In this workshop we will provide an overview
of the teaching procedures designed to develop an echoic repertoire and strengthen observational learning in the
individual. We will discuss several strategies developed to bring vocal emissions under stimulus control. This
discussion will include some basic strategies for teaching tacts as well as a detailed outline of the Rapid Tacting
protocol. A strong repertoire of tacts is the core of conversation. In discussing the specific procedures we will
highlight the importance of these procedures in increasing tacting in individuals. Building on that knowledge we will
introduce a structure for gradually increasing the sophistication and complexity of language with the goal of becoming
fully verbal. (3 CEUs provided)
