GENERAL SHOW REGULATIONS
The following General Regulations have been adopted by the Board of
Management and all Entries are accepted in accordance herewith.
1. Every exhibitor of horses, or sheep who is NOT A MEMBER of the
Society will be required to pay DOUBLE ENTRY FEE.
2. The annual subscription to the Society is Adult single ticket $20, Under
18 ticket $10, Aged pensioner $10, Family (2 adults and 3 children under
18 years) $40. Subscription entitles a member to free admission to the
ground and free car admission for the Show. Financial Life Membership
is offered to the public at a fee of $300. This entitles the holder to the
privileges attached to an annual membership.
3. ENTRANCE FEES MUST BE PAID AT TIME OF ENTRY.
4. The Board of Management reserves the right to cancel any entry ticket
and to order the immediate removal of any diseased or objectionable exhibit.
5. No exhibit will be permitted to compete unless and until such exhibit
shall have been officially entered in the record by the Secretary, and
all exhibitors must produce official Entry Ticket to Steward before such
exhibit will be permitted to be submitted for Judging.
6. The name of the exhibitor, the breed of the animal to be exhibited, the
name of the breeder if known, also the names of horses, cattle, etc. shall
in all cases be included in Entry Form.
7. All outdoor exhibits, except horses, must be in their respective places
ready for judging by 10 a.m. on the day of the Show.
8. A donor of $50 is entitled to membership status and privileges for the
year in which the donation is made.
9. The award of the judges shall in all cases be final provided that no valid
objection or appeal is raised as to the right of the exhibit or exhibitor to
compete in that class.
10. No appeal will be entertained unless same shall have been lodged
with the Secretary in writing, accompanied by a deposit equal to onehalf of the prizemoney, within two hours of the event. The Boar of
Management reserves the right to forfeit any deposit if appeal is deemed
to be trivial or frivolous. Refer to Horse Regulations.
11. Notwithstanding the absence of any appeal or objection the Board of
Management may withhold any prize until satisfied that these regulations
have been complied with.
12. If deemed necessary by the Board of Management, an exhibitor or
prizewinner may be required to make a Statutory Declaration covering
bona fides of exhibitor or competitor, or the ownership thereof, and
noncompliance with this direction will render prize liable to be forfeited.
12a. If only one exhibitor in any one class, only half first or second
prizemoney paid.
13. The judge shall in all cases have the right to withhold a prize if it
is considered that the exhibits are not worthy or may award a lesser
prize. In any class where there is only one exhibit, first prize will only be
awarded on special recommendation of judge.
14. This Society is affiliated with the South-East of South Australia and
Border Show Societies’ Association, and any exhibitor or exhibit subject
to disqualification by that Association or by any Show Society affiliated
with that Association will be debarred from competition at the Show of
this Society during the period of such disqualification or until any appeal
that may have been lodged against such disqualification shall have been
determined.
15. Where any exhibit is made in the name of a company or firm, other
than a registered company or firm, the names of the individual exhibitors
comprising the company or firm will be stated on the Entry Form.
16. No exhibit will be removed from the Showground before 4pm on the
day of the Show unless specifically authorised and infringement of this
Regulation may involve forfeiture of prizemoney or other penalty.
17. Any prizemoney not collected before December 31, 2014 will be
deemed to have been forfeited.
18. Penola P.A. and H. Society are not responsible for errors, omissions
and mistakes contained in this schedule.
19. ALL COMPETITORS COMPETE AT THEIR OWN RISK.
20. The Society reserves the right to cancel or withdraw classes or
sections without prior notice.
21. On receipt of your admission ticket you will be entitled to a membership
of the Penola P.A. & H. Society for one or two days.

TDC HEIFER CLASSIC - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31
Judging to start at 6.30pm, final to be judged on main oval at approx
8pm. All cattle entries to be stalled by 4pm Friday.
All Heifers entered must also be entered in their respective
classes for Saturday's show.

SECTIONAL REGULATIONS
1. All exhibitors must be members of the Society.
2. All prizes in this section are offered in terms of General Regulations
of this Society.
3. All cattle must have been taught to lead and will be tied up where
directed by Stewards. Children under 12 years handling cattle must
be under adult supervision. Child safety is the responsibility of
exhibitor/s.
4. All exhibits will be paraded for judging on day of show as directed
by Stewards.
5. All ribbon winners to parade.
6. All entries must be the property of the exhibitor.
7. All animals must be registered with their respective breed societies.
8. All bulls over 12 months shall be rung through the nose.
9. All cattle to be TUBERCULOSIS AND BRUCELLOSIS accredited
free or tested 30 days prior to show.
10. Owners should be advised to contact the Department of Agriculture
for their herd status prior to making application to show cattle.

EXHIBITORS/COMPETITORS must be current members of the Penola PA & H
Society Incorporated or pay double entry fee and gate admission each time they
enter the show grounds. Entry fee for each class includes insurance levy.
SECTION REGULATIONS
1. Penola P.A & H Society is affiliated with Equestrian Australia
2. Member subscriptions to be paid prior to show or at time of entry
3. Membership fees: Single - $20.00, Junior - $10.00, Family - $40.00 (2
adults and 3 children under 18 years of age) includes ground admission
for holder of membership card. All riders must be a financial member of the Penola PA & H Society. Please indicate on entry forms if you
are a current financial life member of the Penola PA & H Society.
4. Entry Fees: include GST. All exhibitors whether they are registered or not, are
to pay the full amount as state in the schedule. To claim GST you must
submit your ABN when lodging your entries. NO ENTRY FEES ARE REFUNDED
under any circumstances.
5. Prize Money & Trophies: All prizes in this section are offered in terms of
general regulations of the Society.
6. Prize money does not include GST. GST will be added to the prize money
for exhibitors who are registered for GST and have provided ABN.
7. Ribbons to 3rd place in all rings
8. Unless specially recommended by the judge/s, 2nd and 3rd prize money will
not be awarded in classes in which competitors are less than three in number
9. Show Jumping – only 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize money will be awarded in classes in
which competitors are less than six in number
10. Disqualification: if any competitor fails to enter the ring by third call
11. Disqualification: incurred if gear breaks to the extent that the rider cannot
carry on
12. Attire: Riders must wear approved boots and head gear at all times when
mounted. Hunting, riding or correct attire must be worn unless otherwise
stated in program. EA Hot Weather Policy will apply.
13. Certificates: - birth certificates are to be produced if requested by ring
steward in specified age classes.
14. Registration certificates and performance cards must be produced if requested
by judge or steward (Melbourne and Adelaide certificates acceptable)
15. Stallions are not eligible for saddle classes (ring events)
16.No horse will be permitted to enter the show ring with any prize ribbon
affixed to any portion of the horse, rider or equipment, except in parades
17. All Show Jumping events to be run under FEI & EA rules
18. Swabbing: as per FEI & EA rules
19. Protests: Must be lodged in writing & with a deposit of $50 with the secretary
within 30 minutes of the event. The decision of the Disputes Committee
20.The Convenor & Stewards have the power to alter and/or delete classes
at their discretion
21.Should any competitor/exhibitor or other person acting for them nominate
the same horse and/or rider in different classes that may clash, they do
so at their own risk as classes will not be delayed waiting for them to enter
22. Cruelty to any animals on the McCorquindale Park grounds during the events
held by the Penola P.A&H Society will not be tolerated. You will be asked to
leave the grounds if you cannot abide by this regulation.
23. MEMBERSHIP needs to only be paid once, convenors will check
membership details if entering in more than one ring.
24. Grand Parade to celebrate 150th year of show will commence at 3pm
all riders are asked to participate in this event. Rings will recess during
the parade.
25. Refunds on entry fees will be given upon proof of a vet or doctors certificate.
The Penola PA & H Society will retain membership fees.

Camping is available at the Show Grounds for a fee of $10 for the weekend,
this fee is to be included on your entry form, yards cannot be guaranteed.

Rules & Regulations:
- All competitors are to participate with a spirit of goodwill
- A junior is a rider aged 10 up to and including 16 years of age
- The Encourage division is ribbons only. Open riders are eligible to ride
non-competitively.
- Judge’s decision is final
- Competitors may enter more than one horse – if entries are exceedingly
high, a restriction may apply
- Each horse must be ridden by the same rider in all events
- All horses must be ridden in a snaffle bit and stock saddles are preferred
- Tie downs, martingales or running reins, dropped nose bands and riding
whips are prohibited from competition
- Stallions must be ridden and handled by an adult (over 18 yrs) and tied
up with both halter and neck strap (double-tied)
- No whips to be cracked until permission given by stewards
- Classes may not necessarily be run in the order given

1. RICH FRUIT CAKE
(Recipe to be used – cake not to be iced)
(Angas Park Products to be used where possible)
INGREDIENTS: 250g butter, 250g dark brown sugar, 6 eggs, 250g
sultanas, 250g raisins, 200g currants, 100g dates, 60g chopped
red glace cherries, 60g mixed peel, 60g chopped almonds, 375g
plain flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon mixed spice,
200ml sherry or brandy.
METHOD: Mix together all fruits and soak in the sherry or
brandy overnight. Sift together flour, baking powder and
spice. Cream together butter and sugar. Add the eggs one
at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternatively
add the fruit and flour and lastly the chopped nuts. Mix
thoroughly. Place mixture into a prepared square tin (approx.
19-22 cm in size. Bake in slow oven for approximately 3-3
1/2 hours.
Winner eligible to compete in State Final to be held at the
next Royal Adelaide Show. One entry per exhibitor.

Competition Outline
• Best savoury variation of your scone recipe which must use
Laucke Country Women's Scone Mix as the base.
• Only one entry per person.
• Entrants are eligible to win one local final.
• Winners from each Local Shows are eligible to enter and be
judged at the appropriate Association Show.
• The 10 Association winners will then compete in a State Final
as part of the 2015 Royal Adelaide Show.
• No entry fee.
• Entrants please note that you DO NOT have to follow the
recipe on the back of the box. You use the mix as a base only.
• If the CWA Scone Mix is not available in your town please
contact the show secretary.
• Revenue to the CWA from sales of the scone mix is used
to assist drought affected families in South Australia and
Interstate.
Judging Guidelines
1. 5 scones presented for Judging.
2. Scones should be approximately 5cms in diameter.
3. Well risen, straight sides, thin golden crust top and bottom,
no
flour base.
4. Fine, moist texture, good crumb, good flavour and according to

1. Three homemade Anzac biscuits using the recipe below.

Must use this recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup sugar
1 cup coconut
1 tablespoon golden syrup
3/4 cup plain flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 tablespoons boiling water
Method:
Melt butter in a small saucepan.
In a small bowl, dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the boiling water.
Add golden syrup to dissolved soda and water. Combine with
melted butter.
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl and stir in liquid. Mix well.
Roll a heaped teaspoon of mixture into a ball and place on to
buttered tray and bake in a moderate oven (180C) until
golden brown.
Allow to cool on the tray slightly before lifting off - as they are
soft till cold.

Key timelines of the
Penola Pastoral, Agricultural &
Horticultural Society
(P.A & H)
1864 First South-Eastern District Pastoral and Agricultural Society Show held in Penola, on a site adjacent the Casterton Road on land owned by Mr E Davis.
1867 Penola P A & H Society established.
1868 First Penola P A & H Society Show held.
1885 Penola P A & H Society incorporated.
1890s Show held on land behind ... Forresters Hall, and the sheep pens were situated on the present site of the Institute.

1896 Held at new Showground, possibly at a site 1 ½ miles north of Penola on the Naracoorte Road.
1912 Show Society purchased a property from late Mr W J Roberts on the corner of Clarke and Arthur Street, opposite the railway station. First show held there in 1914.
1939- Show became a patriotic fundraiser with proceeds going
1945 towards the WW2 war effort. A full show resumed in 1946.
1946 Mr C Black offered to sell 21 acres of his land to the Show Society as a site for the new show ground.
1948 The McCorquindale family presented property deeds to the Show Society.
1950 New Show ground officially opened in October.
1952 New memorial gates opened by Premier Thomas Playford.
1953 New Rymill Hall opened, made possible by funds gifted by the Rymill family, and ...to commemorate the pioneer work of the Riddoch and Rymill family.
1957 The Supper room (extension to Hall) was opened by Mr David Skene in May.
1962 An estimated 8,000 attended the show.
