To provide high quality evidence based clinical services to referred clients. Key responsibilities include Clinical Supervision, Clinical Practice and Service Delivery and Improvement. To develop effective and assertive treatment strategies for those people who have a serious mental illness, which is complicated by co-existing substance misuse. To improve integration between mental health and drug and alcohol services and achieve positive client outcomes To assist with training and support of mental health and AOD professionals/support workers in dual diagnosis issues. Assessment and Treatment Risk management Case support Consultation Client education Client Support The Community Alcohol and Drug Service Performance Management System is utilised to provide direct clinical supervision for staff. Monitoring and supervision of related Administrative, Policy/Procedure and Protocol requirements. Participative clinical practice and supervisory leadership that ensures outcomes that are effective with people and efficient with systems. Maintenance of a caseload of clients (as agreed with Dual Diagnosis Manager and Clinical Team Leader). Co-ordination of referrals from Mental Health Services as required. The Manager and the Clinical Team Leader are advised and informed in regard to issues/decisions related to day to day operation of the unit. Direct clinical supervision is provided to students/interns on clinical placement and/or staff involved in the implementation of research and/or quality initiatives when required, as directed by the Manager. Ad hoc supervision is provided to members of the clinical team as required. Best clinical practice is modelled and an acting up role is taken on in the absence of the Clinical Team Leader as required. Contribution to the co-ordination of all unit requirements in regard to systems and standards, in conjunction with the Clinical Team Leader and the Manager. Functional relationships are developed and maintained with CADS Supervisors, and Quality Team. Participation in unit and Community Alcohol and Drug Service wide activities that promote the development of Best Practice Standards within Community Alcohol and Drug Services Participation in and contribution to organisational reviews and audits of Policy/Procedure, Practice Guides and Practice Standards Promotion of participation in all research and quality initiatives within the unit. Clients are prioritised and actioned appropriately and in a timely manner. Assessment and treatment of co-existing alcohol and drug issues and mental health disorders. Demonstration of planning, risk assessment and management and positive client outcomes. Implementation of Harm Reduction model of treatment. Provision of ongoing assertive case support of clients in consultation and conjunction with other services. Provision of consultation via assessment and treatment recommendations for referred clients. Relationships are proactively and effectively established with mental health and alcohol and drug providers that foster mutually co-operative collaboration and consultation. An up-to- date knowledge base of community resources and support services is maintained. Active participation in liaison with all services that currently and/or could potentially utilise the Dual Diagnosis Service. Provision of peer support to mental health and alcohol and drug professionals, as appropriate. Establish and maintain effective networks and relationships for liaison with Mental Health Services, Community Alcohol and Drug Services and related agencies. Effective systems Liaison Peer support Participate in the provision of education to health professionals (both internal and external), referral agencies, clients and their significant others. Service Promotion Education EXPECTED OUTCOMES developed, actioned, monitored and evaluated. Clients are seen as often as clinically indicated. Client’s management is regularly discussed and reviewed with clinical team. Appropriate recommendations and/or referral to others are actioned to ensure the best outcome for the client. Clients are supported in developing their own resource systems to meet their needs. Family/ whanau and caregivers are encouraged to participate with client’s treatment with client’s consent. Provision of group facilitation or co-facilitation as appropriate and as requested. Client care is documented and care is provided in accordance with service protocols, clinical pathways and Standard Operating Procedures. A formal discharge report for all clients is completed. Statistical information collected and recorded as per organisational and unit requirements. All clinical file audit requirements are met. Active participation in community initiatives that promote Community Alcohol and Drug Services as a socially responsible service of excellence. Provision of both planned and requested specialist skills training sessions to other services and their staff. Provide follow-up skill consolidation /consultation as appropriate post-training. Involvement in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the training programmes being offered. Relevant professional registration (HPCA, dapaanz, NZAC, NZAP or similar) Relevant qualification and/or experience in Clinical Supervision.
