This allows a user to play premium DivX video purchased or rented from an online provider. This document explains the user experience and includes example user interface screens in several languages. 1.1 How it works The user can purchase or rent a DivX video from any online retailer selling DivX VOD video. The user creates a DivX VOD account and downloads the video to his or her PC. The video is then transferred to the device by way of a CD, DVD, USB drive, or DLNA where the user is able to play the video on his or her registered DivX certified product. If the user has other registered DivX certified products, the video will also play on those devices up to a limit of six devices. If the user gives that video to a friend, the clip will not play on the friend’s device whether it is DivX certified or not. Likewise, if the user posts the DivX video on the Internet, this illegally distributed DRM protected content will not play on any other player products whether they are DivX certified or not. 1.2 Registration To play DivX VOD video, the device must be registered to a user. This process requires the display of a registration R VOD” menu item within the device’s Setup code, which is an 8 or 10 character value obtained under the “DivX Menu. 1.3 Deregistration The device can be deregistered from a user’s account. This process requires the display of a deregistration code, R which is an 8 character value obtained under the “DivX VOD” menu item within the device’s Setup Menu. 2 Product User Interface The following screens and usages must be implemented. Screen Name Usage R “DivX VOD” menu item R • The device must provide a “DivX VOD” menu item placed on the device’s Setup Menu. This should be located alongside other technology registrations that are available in the device. The DivX VOD menu item must be accessible at all times whether or not any peripherals such as a USB drive or network cable are connected. Registration Code • Whenever a user request is made to display the registration code and the device is not activated for DRM playback. Deregistration Confirmation • Whenever a user request is made to deregister the device and the device is activated for DRM playback. Deregistration Code • Whenever a user confirms his or her choice to deregister. • Whenever a user request is made to deregister the device and the device is already in a deregistered state (has been deactivated). Authorization Error • Whenever an attempt is made to play an unauthorized clip. Rental Expired • Whenever an attempt is made to play an expired rental. Text in square brackets, [ ], are user buttons. Rental views “X” and “Y” are replaced by actual counts from the DRM engine. Any deviation from the wording shown in the following examples must be first approved by DivX.
