October 19, 2014
I would like to thank all those who helped make our parish mission a spiritual success for our parish.
Last February, the parish mission committee was formed. Throughout the months leading to our
September mission, this committee did a great job of organizing the help of many parishioners and
addressing the many details that go into a parish mission. Most parish missions would consider it
successful if the church is half full. When you add up the number of people who attended both weeks of
our parish mission, the church was three quarters full each day. One of the committee members believes
that there were around 150 parishioners volunteering for the mission in one way or another. A number of
parishioners told me how much they enjoyed attending the mission. There is no sure way to measure the
success of a parish mission. However, the large number of people who volunteered and attended the
mission seems to indicate a huge success. Over the next months and years, I believe that the Graces
generated from this parish mission will have a profound effect on our parish and the surrounding area.
Speaking of God’s Graces, they were certainly flowing a week and a half ago during our grandparent’s
day at Holy Child grade school. Because we had four hundred grandparents who signed up to visit their
grandchildren at Holy Child that day, we could not use the church for the Mass Celebration. As a result,
there were a number of grade school families at the gym the night before grandparent’s day setting up for
the Mass Celebration. We also had a number of our grade school parents working the different stations
during the entire morning of grandparent’s day. By all accounts, it was a hugely successful day for the
Holy Child community. Like our parish mission, I would like to thank all of those who were involved in
making this event such a great PR occasion for Holy Child grade school. With so many young parents
involved in our grade school, the future is very bright for our grade school.

Resolutions for Stewards
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.”
- Matthew 22:21
Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely
“stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He
gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes
second.

Recap of Week 7
October 17th marks the official end of the 1st quarter. If you
have not already done so, you should notice that the Fast
Direct on-line grade book is temporarily closed to parental
viewing. This is because the teachers are busy finalizing
student scores and importing their final grades to the report
cards. Once they submit the reports to the office for my
perusal, I will look them over and then re-open Fast Direct to
parental viewing the on-line grade book. A wonderful 1st
quarter was capped with last weeks Grandparent’s Day
celebration. I would like to thank our students, teachers and
parent volunteers for all that they did to make this day so
special.
Our Middle School parents in grades 6 & 8 attended two very
important meetings on Monday evening. Sixth grade parents
attended the 6th Grade Coalition to discuss those awkward teen
years that their children are going through at school/home. The
eighth grade parents attended the Right Start informational
meeting at Our Lady in Festus. This meeting outlined the
Archdiocesan sanctioned program that the 8th graders will take
part in this year. Dr. Karen Tichy, Associate Superintendant of
Special Education/Curriculum Development, came to Holy
Child to assist our CARE Team in meeting the needs of
children with special needs. This was an especially informative
meeting that is sure to pay big dividends as we move forward
in our goal to assist all children in their pursuit of knowledge.
Grades K-8 were instructed personal boundaries through the
Safe Touch program by the director of the Safe Environment
Program, Mrs. Sara Wise. Lastly, our awesome eighth graders
are preparing to play an integral part in tomorrow nights
annual IC/Holy Child Dinner Auction. **Note** Don’t forget
about the all school Mass tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
Immaculate Conception-Holy Child Dinner Auction
The annual Dinner Auction will be held in the Parish Center
tomorrow night, Saturday, October 18th. As of 10-07-14, this
event is SOLD OUT! An awesome evening of fun will begin
with a Holy Child School Mass at 5:00 pm. All students are
encouraged to attend and help celebrate the Saturday evening
Liturgy with song and prayer. The 8th grade students typically
help set the Auction up. We are in of need one 8th grade parent
to volunteer to 'supervise' the 8th graders, to help keep them on
top of their game that night. Someone who has good rapport
with the kids would be great. More information will soon be
forthcoming.
**Attention Parents of 8th Grade** Confirmation Meeting
There will be a Parent/Child Confirmation Meeting on
Thursday, October 23rd at 6:30 pm.

Parishes around the Archdiocese have begun a 40 day
prayer vigil that will last until November 2nd for an end
to abortion. St. David and Immaculate Conception parish will unite for prayer at the last freestanding abortion
mill in Missouri during 40 Days for Life. It is a prayerful, peaceful vigil outside of the very place where little
unborn humans are losing their lives. We pray for all
involved with the sin of abortion for their conversion and
healing. Come stand in prayer and peaceful witness to
the fact that all human life is sacred. One hour is all that
will be required of your time. We will stand on Wed.
October 29 from 7:00am – 1:00pm. Prayerfully consider
joining us. Signup sheet is on the radiator in back of
church or more info call Mary McMahan 296-1374.
This Weekend, Oct 11 & 12, Annual I.C. Baby Shower for
Birthright of Hillsboro. The playpen is in back of church
now to receive our baby gifts and cash donations which are
needed by Birthright to help women in crisis pregnancies and
their babies. Diapers, coats, jackets, clothing – up to 2T
needed. (No furniture, car seats, toys) This is an important
event; Hillsboro is a busy Birthright, covering 4 counties. The
dedicated workers and volunteers at Birthright work hard to
address the many needs of women who are “choosing”, or
trying to “choose”, life for their babies, and they have great
respect and concern for these courageous young mothers who
often face very desperate conditions if they don’t abort their
babies…alienation of families, loss of homes, some have no
resources at all. Like the Birthrights in St. Louis, Hillsboro
partners with maternity homes, and other pro-life resources to
help mothers and babies. The playpen will remain in back of
church all week through Sat. and Sun., Oct. 18 & 19. No
boxes for cash donations will be left after the last Mass on
Saturday or Sunday, or during the week. Sat, Nov. 1,
Birthright of Hillsboro will hold a dinner/speaker program
with silent auction/raffles; no oral auction this year. Doors
open, 5pm; Dinner at 6pm. Cost $35 per person. Cash Bar.
More info at 314-808-1389. The generous support for
Birthright from our parish is always greatly appreciated by
them. 40 Days For Life runs through Nov. 2, and it consists
of praying and fasting anytime, where ever you are, for an end
to abortion during this 40 day period. Also included is the
request that we become “prayer volunteers” outside the local
Planned Parenthood at the corner of Boyle and Forest Park
Blvd., St. Louis, for one or more hours on any day you
choose. You will join with others who are witnessing and
praying there and who are from parishes from Arnold or from
other parishes in our archdiocese. 40 Days For Life now
operates in many foreign countries. You can get updates and
info about 40 Days For Life at: www.40DaysForLife.Com/
St.Louis. Every 3rd Sat. of every month…Helpers of God’s
Precious Infants Mass at Cathedral Basilica, 8am, followed by
prayerful procession and rosary at Planned Parenthood. Oct.
18, Celebrant: Fr. Brian Fallon, Q.A.S. parish. Note: On the
same day the Missouri Congress overrode the governor’s veto
of pro-life legislation, 5 mothers going into Planned
Parenthood for abortions received information outside from
counselors which caused them to turn around and go across
the street to the mobile Pregnancy Resource Center for help
instead. Praying outside Planned Parenthood makes a
difference!
