For 15 years, the Pharmacy Assistant National Conference has
been empowering pharmacy assistants to take control of their
careers. 2014 is no different, only this year we will be doing it

development, the PA Conference program is developed by
pharmacy assistants for pharmacy assistants and delivers
something for every level of experience. Staff new to the
industry will gain valuable training in the Product Knowledge
Stream; managers will be able to upgrade their skills in the
Management Master Classes; and all attendees will gain
valuable career and life tools in the Personal & Professional
Development Stream as well as be inspired by our motivational
speakers.
From the latest product information, to retail tricks of the trade
and inspiring stories, this year’s delegates will hear from a range

award-winning thought leader Dan Gregory, HR guru Tina

The 2014 conference program will once again include a mix

is a QCPP Approved Refresher Training
event that will provide all of the training hours necessary for
you to meet the minimum three hour requirement.

Dr Karl’s top trends in technology and behaviour
Throughout history, it has often been said that “we live in interesting times”, and every age – including the present - has its wonders, discoveries and traits. From the
wheel to the automobile, aqueducts to army ducks, computers to tele-commuters, human inventiveness and adaptability seems boundless. But what does the future
hold? Will the sciences – both technological and human - give us a sustainable future, or will the worsening state of the planet and the “social malaise” of the people who

Rochelle Akhavan’s pharmaceutical industry
career spans over 23 years and includes
National and Regional Sales Manager roles for GSK, Sanofi Pasteur
and iNova Pharmaceuticals. Rochelle has developed national
training models in sales and therapeutic areas. In her current role
as Regional Sales Manager for iNova, she runs the national training
of the Consumer Health Care team in Professional Selling Skills. A
passion for coaching and development has seen Rochelle’s sales
teams win many National Awards for sales success. Rochelle holds
degrees in Applied Science and Nursing.
Alison Bennett
Diabetes Dietitian, Diabetes Queensland
Alison Bennett is an Accredited Practicing
Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist. Alison
joined the Diabetes Queensland health
team in February 2013 after spending 18 months as a Diabetes
Dietitian with Diabetes Tasmania. She has a range of experience
advocating and promoting health and health related issues at
a National and International level. Alison enjoys working in the
community to promote good health and wellbeing.
Caren Biddulph

Australia
Caren Biddulph is an Accredited Practicing
Dietician with a Master’s degree in nutrition and training in
lactation management. She has worked in clinical nutrition specialising in paediatrics - and has a passion for the wellbeing
and nurturing of infants. Caren has published a thesis, enjoys
keeping up-to-date with scientific research and is currently
undertaking an MBA. She has keen interests in sport and literature,
teaches yoga and enjoys the outdoors and travel.
Roger Boot
Vendor and Marketing Manager,

Roger Boot is an eHealth consultant who
has been working with eRx Script Exchange
since 2008. Roger is heavily involved in the leading edge of
Australian eHealth advances and has managed significant IT and
change management projects across the health and non-profit
sectors. He also manages Greenwich Village Pharmacy in Sydney
with his wife Diana. Roger started his working life as a Jackaroo on
the Hay plain and holds three degrees.
Chris Campbell

Chris Campbell’s role as Professional Services
Pharmacist for the Terry White Chemists Group
of pharmacies involves facilitating professional services across the
network of 170 stores. His career started in hospital pharmacy
in 2002 before moving to work in community pharmacy. Chris
is a member of the Queensland Pharmacists Immunisation
Pilot reference group and conducts lectures at both QUT
and Griffith pharmacy schools. Chris is accredited to perform
Home Medication Reviews and is passionate about practical
implementation of professional services in community pharmacy.
Dr Curtis Cole
Director of Technology Adult Skin Care,
Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products
Dr Curtis Cole has been developing and
evaluating sunscreen products for Johnson &
Johnson for the past 20 years and in his current role is responsible
for developing therapeutic facial skin care products for the
company’s international markets. Dr Cole has also worked in the
Dermatology Department of Temple Medical School researching
the effects of ultraviolet light on skin, both acute (sunburn) and
chronic (skin cancer). He has been active in Photobiology for over
25 years and has participated in numerous industry collaborative
initiatives in sunscreen evaluation method development.

Rebecca Coulson has been Key Account
Representative for Ego Pharmaceuticals for
the past eight years. As an enthusiastic and entertaining trainer,
Rebecca brings her background in teaching and psychology to

As Group Executive, Engagement and
Advocacy with The Pharmacy Guild of Australia Ann Dalton
oversees and coordinates the government, stakeholder, marketing
and public relations function of the national secretariat. Ann has
made significant contribution to community pharmacy through
her various positions at the Guild, which include National Director,
Policy and Regulatory Affairs, acting Director of the Quality Care
Pharmacy Division and ACT Branch Director. Prior to joining the
Guild, Ann ran her own small communication consultancy and for
some years managed her family’s bookselling business.
Dan Gregory
Founder and CEO, The Impossible Institute
As the founder and CEO of The Impossible
Institute, Dan Gregory advises management
and sales departments on what truly drives

and boards on how to lead with the power of a purposeful and
compelling identity in a rapidly changing world. During his 20year career as a thought leader in human behaviour, marketing,
NPD and communications, Dan has worked with the biggest

creativity, effectiveness and ROI. Dan is most well-known for his
appearances on the ABC’s Gruen Transfer.
Lisa Guy
Naturopath/Nutritionist
Highly qualified naturopath Lisa Guy has over a
decade of experience and runs a Sydney based
clinic, Art of Healing. Lisa has also authored
several books including ‘My Goodness’, ‘Pregnancy Essentials’, and
‘Heal Yourself’, writes for a variety of magazines and newspapers
and is Body and Soul’s resident nutritionist. Lisa is mum to two little
girls and has a particular passion for treating children and helping
support women through pregnancy and beyond.
Karl Kruszelnicki’s media career began in 1981
when he presented ‘Great Moments In Science’
on Double J to pay his way through medical
school. In 1985 he made his television debut as
the presenter of Quantum and since 1986 has reported science on
the Midday Show, Good Morning Australia, the Today Show and
Sunrise. In September 2003 Dr Karl was named ‘Australian Father
of the Year’ and in 2006 received the Member of the Order of
Australia Award. He has degrees in Physics and Maths, Biomedical
Engineering, Medicine and Surgery and has worked as a physicist,
tutor, film-maker, car mechanic, labourer, and medical doctor as
well as being the author of 30 books.
Tim Logan
Branch President, The Pharmacy Guild of
Australia, Queensland Branch
Tim Logan is a community pharmacist of
nearly 30 years’ experience. He is the President
of the Queensland Branch and Senior National Vice-President
of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, and has been a member of
the Pharmacists Board of Queensland and the Pharmacy Board
of Australia. Tim has been involved in the development of the
Queensland Pharmacy Immunisation Pilot from its inception, and
looks forward to further involvement in projects to fully utilize the
capacity of pharmacists and pharmacies in the Health system.
Veryan McAllister
President, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Association of Australia (POSAA)
Veryan McAllister is one of the founding
members of POSAA, which began operations
in 1998 and continues today to provide
support, information and education to women with PCOS. Veryan
was an integral part of the POSAA team which successfully
lobbied Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for the funding of national
guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of PCOS that have
been rolled out to GPs across Australia. Veryan volunteers her time
to POSAA to provide support to women with PCOS.

Joint Head Quality Pharmacy Practice,

Naturopath, Sanofi Consurmer Healthcare
As joint head of the Quality Pharmacy Practice
team at the Pharmacy Guild of Australia,
Chloe Hennessy oversees the National Operations of the Quality
Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP). Chloe has had over nine years’
experience with the Guild, working at an operational level in
the ACT Branch and now in a strategic management position at
the National Secretariat. As most of her time with the Guild has
been with QCPP Chloe has gained extensive knowledge of the
program and played an integral part in its evolution, including the
development of the second edition and 2011 version of the QCPP
Requirements Manual.

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki
Michelle McPherson is an accomplished
national and international speaker on health
and nutrition who regularly interacts with retail
and pharmacy assistants, pharmacists, naturopaths and hospital
staff. Michelle has a particular interest in children’s health and wellbeing and has worked in the pharmacy industry for over 25 years.
Joyce McSwan

Joyce McSwan is an Accredited Consultant
pharmacist who is working within the
healthcare system to innovate and optimise
care for those living with persistent pain using
mixed funding models. Currently the project manager of the
‘Turning Pain into Gain’ program for the Gold Coast Medicare
Locals, Joyce has also authored the MedRN Chronic Pain DVD
training for health professionals. Her contributions to the
profession and the community led to her being awarded the
Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, Quality Use of Medicines,
Pain Management Award in 2012, and in 2013 she was awarded
the Innovative Pharmacist of Year award in recognition of her
significant innovations in pain management.
Gideon Poratt
Podiatrist
Gideon Poratt Gideon began his career as
a podiatrist at the Inner South Community
Health Service in South Melbourne where
he developed a broad range of podiatry skills and a holistic
approach to foot care. Gideon’s focus is on all aspects of podiatry,
including gerontology, sports biomechanics and paediatrics as
well as treatment of complications caused by diabetes. During his
23 years of practising as a podiatrist he has been committed to
providing an outstanding service to the local community.
Tina Radford
Managing Director, HR Business Solutions
Tina has 18 years’ experience as a senior human
resources practitioner. With her real-world
commercial experience and in-depth expertise
in managing the dynamics of fast growing organisations, Tina has
brought a refreshingly different style and substance to the HR
business challenges that her clients face. With experience across
a range of industries including, engineering, retail, hospitality,
construction, manufacturing, finance, mining and professional
services, Tina is widely sought after for her leadership expertise in
entrepreneurial and fast-growing firms which embrace expansion

Malcolm Scrymgeour
Director, Zumo Retail Ltd
After a career in senior executive marketing
and merchandise roles in blue chip
organisations such as Cadbury, Cocoa-Cola,
Shell and Mayne Group, Malcolm Scrymgeour
has forged a formidable reputation as a retail management
consultant. He has worked in a number of retail channels
including pharmacy, liquor, convenience stores and newsagents,
and has developed the FAR-SPPACE™ concept for assessing the
in-store consumer experience. He also created the Retail Ready
Program© which is used by clients in a diverse range of industries
and countries.
Vicky Spencer is a qualified naturopath/
herbalist and personal trainer with over 20
years’ experience in the natural medicine
industry as a lecturer, trainer and consultant.
Vicky is passionate about sharing with others how a high quality
herbal/nutritional supplement will add value not only to the
consumer but to the pharmacy as a business, and believes that
having confidence in recommending quality supplementation is
vital for every pharmacy assistant.
Prof Roland Sussex
Emeritus Professor Roland Sussex OAM
Roland (Roly) Sussex is research fellow in the
Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation
and the School of Languages and Comparative
Cultural Studies at the University of Queensland. He was
previously Professor of Applied Language Studies at the University
of Queensland and taught Linguistics and Russian at the
University of Reading (UK) and Monash University in Melbourne.
His current research is in the triangle between language, culture
and society, and technology. He writes a weekly column on
language for Brisbane’s Courier-Mail, and has been broadcasting
every week to Queensland on ABC radio since 1997, and for the
last decade to South Australia.
Kara Uden
Retail Manager, Malouf Pharmacies Forest
Lake
After working as a Dispensary Technician in
New Zealand, Kara moved to Australia in 2006
and started as a pharmacy assistant with Malouf Pharmacies
Forest Lake. In 2010 she became the pharmacy’s Retail Manager
and two years later was awarded the Malouf Pharmacies Retail
Manager of the Year. Kara has completed her Certificate IV in
Community Pharmacy and enjoys running a busy community
pharmacy with a team of 40 staff. In 2013 Kara was crowned The
Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s Pharmacist of the Year.
Danny Urbinder
Education Manager, FIT-BioCeuticals
Danny Urbinder has worked in the health
industry for over 20 years. A qualified
Naturopath who graduated from the
Southern School of Natural Medicine, Danny was a lecturer in
Nutritional Biochemistry at the Australian College of Natural
Medicine for many years. He also worked for several years
in functional pathology with ARL as their Technical Service
Manager. Seven years ago he joined FIT-BioCeuticals where he is
the Education Manager.
