GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE
Election Day is coming – and
Wyoming PBS will be the place to find the
most complete general election debates
offered by any media outlet. We believe
that informing Wyoming citizens about our
democracy and the election process is one
of the most basic priorities for Wyoming
PBS, and therefore, you’ll find five general
election debates in October - three nights
(October 13, 15 and 16) set aside for
debates between statewide candidates
who have been qualified by the Wyoming
Secretary of State and whose names will
appear on the Wyoming ballot. Our thanks to partners Wyoming Public
Media, the Wyoming Business Report, and our underwriter BNSF (see
below) for their support of the debates – and thanks to you, for watching
and being informed before Election Day, Tuesday, November 4.
Wyoming PBS recently completed three television spots to promote
high school graduation, and more specifically, Wyoming “champions”
who are on the frontlines with students, helping them succeed. We
found several individuals across the state who were champions, but we
finally selected three people whom we featured: Angie Schultz, with the
Wyoming Cowboy Challenge Academy (run by Wyoming’s own Military
Department); Craig Ferris, a basketball coach for Wyoming Indian High
School, and Sandy Barton, Director of Fremont County BOCES, who
has been the driver for Wyoming’s Job Corps in Riverton. The spots
are terrific and my thanks and congratulations to Jennifer Amend, our
Promotions Manager, who served as the producer of these spots, and to
Michael Gualdoni, who did the videography and editing. We’re especially
proud of the spot with the Cowboy Challenge Academy, because that
spot was selected to air NATIONALLY on American Graduate Day! You
can watch all three spots by going to our website: wyomingpbs.org/
americangraduate.php.
The reach of Wyoming PBS continues to grow – as evidenced by
people telling us how much they enjoyed a recent Wyoming Chronicle
story, or the documentary on Dr. George Frison, or the incredible success
of our Farm to Fork series, which has the highest number of internet
views of all our programs! Wyoming PBS is having an impact on the
culture of Wyoming – and we’re fortunate to be here, working for you!
Thank you.

GROWING A GREENER WORLD
Sundays at 4:30pm, beginning October 26
This program features organic gardening, green living and farmto-table cooking. On October 26, learn about a public school
in the heart of New York City with a very unusual story. In order
to give their students a solid perspective on the environmental
concerns that come from living in the city, the Manhattan School
for Children developed a lab that would utilize urban farming as
it’s main method of teaching. They built it in the only available
space the school had – on the rooftop of the school building.

Underwriter Spotlight
John and Peggy Bryant of Cora, Wyoming, support Wyoming PBS
as underwriters in two ways. They personally underwrite Wild Kratts
because the program “helps kids become more aware of the environment
and gives them a chance to travel to new places”. The Bryants also help
the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale underwrite Washington
Week and the second hour of Antiques Roadshow because the
“museum’s advertising budget is very tight and underwriting helps get the
word out about an institution that tells important Wyoming history stories”.
Peggy encourages anyone who loves Wyoming PBS to consider
becoming an underwriter. “Three or four people can get together and
promote an organization like the Museum of the Mountain Man,” she says.
“You can’t underestimate the importance of PBS children’s programming.
Many kids learn critical social and intellectual skills by watching programs like Sesame Street and
Wild Kratts. That’s reason enough to underwrite -- it gives kids a good start.”
The Bryants say that when people see them around town, they say “Thank You” for supporting
Wyoming PBS, and that feels pretty good, to know people appreciate what they do.
Help us meet
our goal!
Wyoming PBS has embarked on a unique funding
experiment to support a new season of Farm to Fork
Wyoming through the use of the online crowdfunding site
Indiegogo. Simply put, crowdfunding is the practice of
funding a project or venture by raising many small
amounts of money from a large number of people,
typically via the Internet. The crowdfunding model is fueled by three
types of actors: the project initiator who proposes the project to be
funded (Farm to Fork Wyoming), individuals or groups who support the
idea (YOU, your friends and your family!); and a moderating organization
that brings the parties together to launch the idea (Indiegogo).
The campaign launched in early September and will continue through
mid-October. Funds raised from the campaign will help us support a new
season of this popular local program.
