The Pleasure Of Antiques
“Antiques are like old friends…familiar, dependable, interesting and most of all cherished.” — Frank Gaglio
WILTON, CONN. — Ever wonder what the Apple
iPhone 20 will look like? Or what features it will have spinning our world into a blur? It’s time to slow down and
smell the clean, crisp, fresh air in Wilton just for one day…
Welcome to the Wilton Fall Antiques Market where
your best collections begin.
If you step away from the business of antiques and view
these magnificent objects that were “modern” in their
day, surviving decades and centuries to serve us still, one
can only wonder what historic events these time travelers
have witnessed. How many candles have burned in that
Queen Anne brass candlestick and what conversation
ensued around it…how many fires have those andirons
held and what savory stew cooked above them…how
many nights have those hand stitched quilts provided
warmth and comfort…how many lives has that old Bible
baptized and blessed. Yes, for those of us that love them,
antiques are a part of our history, not just decorations or
trendy accumulations in our home.
One of the most important missions of the Wilton Historical Society is to preserve and dispense history and
appreciation thereof through the various restored buildings, programs and exhibitions they mount every year,
without which the richness of our heritage would be lost
and forgotten. It is with that goal in mind that we proudly
present this year’s show on their behalf.
We invite you to join us at the second annual Wilton Fall
Antiques Market where education is as much a part of
our show as offering our latest and greatest finds.
There are many familiar dealer faces at our show, as
they have helped build an industry that has perpetuated
collecting and fostered dozens of major collections
throughout the United States. As with any other industry,
if you are not good at what you do…you won’t be doing
it for very long and we are proud of the reputations, hon-
esty, integrity and talent of the exhibitors in our show this
year.
As market trends change, so will the look and offerings
at Wilton, blending fine art and period furnishings with
more contemporary objects, both affordable and
approachable. Also, stimulating the interest of young collectors in the Twenty-First Century will be a most rewarding and pleasurable endeavor that we should all take to
heart.
So grab an old friend — familiar, dependable and interesting but most of all cherished, and head out to our
Wilton Fall Antiques Market. Or make some new ones at
the show itself, but whatever you do, join us for the day
and make Sunday, October 26, your Wilton day of discovery and fun.
Cheers,
Frank Gaglio
