Dublin, Ireland, 14 October, 2014 - New NDC Pilot Launch from Swiss International Air Lines,
Datalex, PROS and HP continues to show ‘proof is in the pudding’
A group of travel and travel retail experts consisting of Swiss International Air Lines, Datalex, PROS
and HP, has completed the second phase of a unique collaboration that simulates a full-scale
implementation of NDC 1.1.
Aligned with IATA’s New Distribution Capability (NDC) programme, in Phase 1 the group delivered a
comprehensive pilot implementation of NDC 1.0 schema in 2013. In the latest phase, ‘Alpine Project,
Phase 2’, the group leveraged industry-proven pricing, merchandising, reservations and revenue
optimisation, and was able to validate the NDC 1.1 messages and contribute to enhancements
across all point-of-sale channels.
The functional goals of Phase 2 were to use the new NDC 1.1 shopping schema to enable dynamic
pricing and merchandising of multiple fare families. With dynamic pricing of optional extras such as
seat upgrades and in-flight products tailored to fare family and customer loyalty, it validates NDC
and supports the new real-time pricing paradigm. Non-functional goals of the project were to
demonstrate a high level of performance and response times, simulating production volumes to
prove viability for multi-channel distribution.
Commenting on the completion of Phase 2, Karl Isler, Head of Strategy and Operations Research at
Swiss International Air Lines said: “We were able to leverage proven and scalable solutions from
Datalex, PROS and HP to achieve its functional and non-functional goals in a very short amount of
time”.
Malachi Faughnan, CIO at Datalex said: “We have completed a comprehensive evaluation of NDC 1.1.
Datalex pricing and merchandising services available as an omni channel API interface now support
NDC, showing the ’proof of the pudding’”.
