Introduction
The climate change is influencing the political
decisions more than before. EU’s energy and
climate policy has put the focus on reducing CO2
emissions. The same development is happening
worldwide. Every country is responsible of their own
actions, and must find their own solutions to minimize
emissions. As the population and the standard of
living increase, the energy demand continues to
increase. Many countries need especially more
electricity. Nuclear power continues to have an
important role as a method of electricity production.
Fukushima accident and the new technical
development need special attention. When a
nuclear accident happens, the entire nuclear
industries, communities and societies worldwide
are influenced. We cannot compromise the safety.
A number of new countries are embarking the
nuclear power program very soon. It is in our interest
to support the new countries in their first stage.
Finnish nuclear power plant units have track records
of operation in terms of availability and capacity
factors. Our nuclear power production is competitive
in the electricity market. We have furthermore the
demanding and stringent authority. This means that
many countries and companies are interested in our
know-how and cooperation with us.
Finland is building new nuclear power units as well
as modernizing and upgrading the old units. Our
main target is to have as modern and safe units as
possible all the time, so that the remaining technical
lifetime is sufficiently long. At the same time we
don’t compromise the safety. Finnish companies
have possibilities to be more involved in the Finnish
market and especially in other countries.
This directory presents FinNuclear members’
activities and competences, serving the Finnish and
international nuclear industry stakeholders to identify
potential Finnish partners for nuclear power projects
and for other activities. The directory is published by
the FinNuclear Association together with the Finnish
Nuclear Suppliers’ Group.
The FinNuclear Association has been established
in 2011, and has gradually developed its functions.
FinNuclear has established in 2013 a dedicated
company for the commercial activities. This company
is supporting the members to offer their services and
equipment in Finland and in other countries.

Ministry of Employment and the Economy (MEE)
The Ministry of Employment and the Economy (MEE) is the
administrative authority for the use of nuclear energy. MEE
oversees the licensing process according to Finnish legislation,
and provides the administrative support for processing
license applications. The Ministry also steers the planning and
implementation of nuclear waste management, including the
administration of the State Nuclear Waste Management Fund.

Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK)
The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) is an
independent regulatory authority and expert in the field of radiation
and nuclear safety in Finland. Licensee is always responsible for
its nuclear facilities’ safety. STUK’s duty is to oversee licensees’
all activities from the design of the nuclear facilities to their
decommissioining. STUK operates under the Ministry of Social
Affairs and Health.
