We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual to join our faculty and staff as the Junior School Health and Physical Education Teacher. This is a part-time (approx. 0.75FTE), five-month contract (January 2015 – June 2015). Position Summary The Health and Physical Education program at Havergal College is distinguished by opportunities for students to participate in a wide variety of physical activities, sport, swim, health, and physical fitness programs. Through this program, students develop the skills and values necessary to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. As the Health and Physical Education teacher at Havergal College, you will need to be confident in curriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teaching that is reflective of the way in which girls learn. Our teachers support all learners with diverse strategies and approaches and are willing to bring innovative solutions to learning challenges experienced by students. Students will find you to be approachable, available, knowledgeable, genuine and supportive. As member of the Junior School Faculty, you will engage in the work of the school in a collegial and supportive manner. Faculty are expected to participate actively in the life of the school. In addition, all members of the Health and Physical Education department are expected to coach in the athletics program; candidates for this position will coach Track & Field during their term at Havergal College. Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience In order to be considered for this position, candidates will possess the following qualifications, knowledge, and experience: Relevant university qualifications (e.g. Bachelor of Education with P/J qualifications); Qualification of Honours Specialist in Health and Physical Education is an asset. Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in ‘Good Standing’; Candidates must either have their OTAS qualification (Ontario Teachers Aquatic Standard) or be eligible to acquire that qualification in order to teach swimming classes in the Junior Division.
