ABOUT GEORGE DAROUZE George as an Individual George began his new life in Canada when he immigrated here from Lebanon in 1990. As with anyone starting a career in a new country, the path can be rocky and unpredictable. However, George’s determination proved he was up to the task, undertaking a variety of jobs to provide for his family. Being fluently bilingual was an asset and George had job opportunities. His work took him from busboy, baker and dishwasher to fast food franchise worker and within two years he purchased a pizzeria. Several years into the fast food industry, Georgewasn’tleftwithmanyhourswithhis sons. He felt he needed a change for his family. George shifted his focus and was hired as a sales representative for an independent Bell Mobility dealer. This set him off in the telecommunications field and he quickly advanced corporately. George and his wife of 18 years, Sue, along with their two teenage sons, John and Tony, have lived in the Ottawa area since 1990. George and Sue felt comfortable with the Ottawa lifestyle and decided it was the best place to raise their family. George is a strong family man who is proud to call Ottawa his home with his parents (John and Teresa), two brothers (Tony and Elie) and sister (Mariane). Over the past decade, George has held a number of managerial positions with national and international telecommunication companies including manager for Worldlynx Bell Mobility for the Eastern Region and Director of Business Development for Ottawa/Toronto region for Smart Cell Communications, an independent Telus dealer. Currently, he is the Director of Business Development for Four-O-One Security Systems. This history has instilled George with a strong business sense and work ethic. He knows the meaning of a day's work and getting something done. He truly recognizes and appreciates the value of a strong supportive community which brings him to his current objective – representing Osgoode Ward as Councillor. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Volunteered with the Greely Winter Carnival. Volunteered with the Vernon Arts and Craft Show. Participated in Osgoode Village and Metcalfe Santa Clause Parades. Volunteers for Hunks with Hammers, which is an Ottawa Cancer Fundraiser. Assisted in Snowmobile Rally Fundraisers for Cancer. Past President of Osgoode-Carleton Snowmobile Trail Club. President and Governor, District 1, Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. During his term as President of the Osgoode-Carleton Snowmobile Trail Club, the organization received Provincial, Canadian and North American 'Club of the Year' awards. In 2011, George was honoured with the Ontario 'Volunteer of the year' award by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. 2011 ‘OsgoodeWardCommunityVolunteer’ award winner. 2012 ‘Queen'sDiamondJubilee’ medal recipient. Committee member in the campaign to reopen Albion Road. 'Multi Use Pathway' Committee Member, City of Ottawa. Participated in City of Ottawa Official Plan Review (2013). Participated in widening of Bank Street Planning (City Transportation Master Plan 2012-2013). Worked collaboratively with City Staff (Planning Transportation and Recreation Departments) in relation to snowmobile activities (2011-2013). Has maintained a strong interest in municipal politics, attending meetings of all City of Ottawa Standing Committees.
