Patrick Henry Hughes, a multi-instrumental musician that was born without eyes and was unable to straighten his arms and legs. At 17, Vitor Belfort moved to the United States, eventually receiving his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). By the time Belfort made his 1997 Ulitimate Fighting Championship debut people expected that with a BJJ background he would play the ground game. Instead, fans saw a fighter with some of the fastest and most explosive hands ever. First, Tra Telligman fell via technical knockout (TKO) after 1:17; then Scott Ferrozzo fell the same way after only 43 seconds, giving Belfort a heavyweight tournament win. His first four Mixed Martial Artists victories came by way of TKO in 3:04 combined! Diego Sanchez participated and won The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) reality television show in June of 2002. During his time there, he gained a reputation as a “Somewhat off the beaten path and highly spiritual character” for being very vocal about his faith. There was no doubt from day one that he was one of the favorites to win the show. He defeated Alex Karalexis, Josh Rafferty, Josh Koscheck, and finally Kenny Florian in the TUF 1 Finale to take home the TUF 1 crown.
