2014 COSSA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area Coaches: It is our pleasure to be hosting the COSSA Cross Country Championship on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014 at Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area. An important message for your team: Once again, the Lower Trent Conservation Authority has allowed us to use the Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area for our meet. Please maintain the natural beauty of the area by keeping your base camp as clean as you found it when you arrived. Any garbage left on the ground is unacceptable and may jeopardize future use of this facility. Garbage bags and recycling bags will be provided for your use. Also, PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE FINISH LINE/SCORERS TABLE AREA. Directions to Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area: From east or west along highway 401, take exit 509 (Brighton, highway 30 exit). Go north on highway 30 until you see sign for Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Area (just south of Orland). Turn Left along Goodrich Road and follow the road, east, then north, until you get to the site. From north along highway 30, travel south along highway 30 until you see a sign for Loomis Road, turn right, then left and follow the road to the site. ONLY runners whose names appeared on their schools’ AELS sheets at their district qualifying meets are eligible to compete at COSSA. If an athlete missed his or her district meet, an appeal must be filed with the COSSA convenors by Monday, October 20th, seeking permission for the athlete to compete at COSSA. If granted, the athlete may ONLY compete on a team. (COSSA By-Law). In addition, all OFSAA forms MUST be brought to this meet to be handed in if your school qualifies athletes for OFSAA. (Supervision, Behaviour, Eligibility and Practice forms are required.) Each competitor must wear the proper assigned bib. A full team roster will be included in your package. Make sure the correct bib goes to the correct athlete. In addition, make sure that if athletes have been moved up to strengthen teams that this information is made known at registration so the athlete is entered in the correct division. Scoring: The place finish of the first four (4) runners on each team will be added to determine the team scores in each division. In the event of a tie, the fourth place finishers’ places shall break the tie. In each event, the top 6 teams will receive points towards the Overall Team Championship Trophy. 1st - 10 points 3rd - 6 points 5th - 2 points nd th 2 - 8 points 4 - 4 points 6th - 1 point Courses: Three looping trails will be used to make the courses: Short Esker, Long Esker and Junior Loop. Marshalls will be situated along the courses and yellow caution tape will be used to block off some areas. Please do not remove this tape. As well, bikers will lead runners through the courses. However, it is the responsibility of the runners to know their PROPER courses. Awards: Individual and team awards will be presented at 3:15 pm outside of the building. Medals will be presented to the first and second place individuals and to the members of the first and second place teams (maximum 7) in each race. Ribbons will be presented to the 3rd through 6th place individual finishers and to the members of the3rd place team (maximum 7) in each race. Trophies: If your school won a trophy at last year’s COSSA championship, please bring that trophy to the meet and leave it with officials at the registration desk. First Aid: Qualified first aid will be provided on site by Quinte Athletic Therapist Bryan Dunham. If you have athletes who need to be taped, they should provide their own tape. Results: We will be using the Hy-Tek computer program to generate results. Results will be published for awards and posted at www.cossa.ca OFSAA Registration: MUST be completed prior to departure from the COSSA championship Top two (2) teams (maximum 6 members) and top 4 individuals (not on a team) plus one (1) alternate qualify for OFSAA. (Note that the alternate does not run at OFSAA, unless one of the four individual qualifiers scratches.) Cost: $12 per individual; $45 per team, payable to ENSS Note that a $2 OFSAA participation fee, payable to OFSAA must be paid at registration.
