Emmy-nominated Comedy Central star Amy Schumer will treat mature audiences to a night
of uproariously edgy stand-up comedy at UConn’s Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts,
Thursday, October 30, at 7:30 pm. Schumer’s Jorgensen performance, part of her Inside
Amy Schumer’s Back Door Tour, will feature the bubbly comic’s hilarious, no-holds-barred
observations about such subjects as human sexuality (including details about her own sexual
exploits), body image, drugs, failed relationships, and “the general clusterf*ck that is life”.
Doors to the main hall open at 7:00 pm.
Singled-out by entertainment columnist Devon Murphy of the Huffington Post as “the funniest
woman in show business right now”, the 33-year-old budding comedic superstar has received
growing praise from critics and fans, not only for her stand-up work, but also for her cuttingedge Comedy Central television series, Inside Amy Schumer, for which she received a flurry
of award nominations in 2014, including an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Writing for a
Variety Series”, an American Comedy Award nomination for “Best Comedy Actress – TV”, a
Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Comedy Series”, a Gay and
Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association “Dorian Award” nomination for “Wilde Wit of the
Year”, and an Online Film & Television Association OFTA Television Award for “Best Female
Performance in a Fiction Program”. As the show’s creator, star, writer, and executive producer,
Schumer will bring Inside Amy Schumer back to Comedy Central for a third season in 2015.
Schumer first gained national attention back in 2007 when she appeared on NBC’s Last Comic
Standing. Though relatively new to the world of stand-up, Schumer’s wickedly honest, selfdeprecating delivery earned her a fourth place finish in the competition. She later hit her stride
in the kill-or-be-killed world of Comedy Central Roasts when she unloaded on Charlie Sheen in
2011; “You’re just like Bruce Willis, you know. You were big in the 80s and now your old slot’s
being filled with Ashton Kutcher.”
Schumer, who has accumulated a long list of TV and film credits since graduating Towson
University outside of Baltimore with a degree in theater in 2003, says she can’t remember a
time when she didn’t feel the urge to entertain an audience.
“From the time I was able to talk, I remember I would tell everybody to sit down and listen
to my stories,” says Schumer. “Then I would just make up stories about animals, really bad
stories, and my dad would film me.”
Schumer is currently poised to take her burgeoning entertainment career to even greater
heights. During the summer of 2014 she collaborated with producer/director Judd Apatow
on the feature film Trainwreck, which she scripted and in which she stars. Scheduled for a
summer, 2015 release, the Universal film also features comedians Bill Hader, Tilda Swinton,
and Brie Larson.
When asked if she would consider giving up stand-up to concentrate on a career in film or
theater, Schumer doesn’t hesitate:

AMY SCHUMER, continued
“Hopefully I’m going to keep evolving as a standup comic. I used to like just telling jokes.
But now I really feel I have something to say – maybe things that people haven’t thought
about before. So, I’d probably use any success I had in film or theater to finance my standup career,” says Schumer. “I’ll never stop doing stand-up. I love stand-up.”
