Parish Liturgical Ministry Reflection
All are welcome to attend the Annual Santa Rosa de Lima
Liturgical Workshop on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 10:00
AM – 12:00 PM in Carr Hall.
There will be speakers presenting faith building information for
everyone to utilize in their ministry service and their everyday lives.
* Eucharistic Ministers are required to attend a workshop each year. If
you are unable to attend this one, please let Elsie or Noel know so that
they can make a plan.
**If you recently signed up to any of the ministries, you are required to
attend an EIM Workshop if you have not already done so.
PARISH NEWS
Changes to Parish Baptism Procedure
Santa Rosa de Lima baptisms will be for parishioners and those that
reside within our parish boundaries. Parents and sponsors
(godparents) will be required to attend a class.
Classes are currently scheduled for the following Sundays: November
16, January 11; March 8 and April 12. They will be held in the RE
Library at 9 AM.

CSA (Catholic Service Appeal) 2014-2015
The annual diocesan Catholic Services Appeal will be conducted on
November 8-9. Each year, our bishop asks every one of us to make a
commitment to support the work of our diocesan programs and
ministries. By sharing the gifts God has granted us, we can work
together to care for the Church.
Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work to
continue Christ’s work of spirituality, charity and education.
Caps of Love
The NCCW (National Council of Catholic Women) has started a new
Service Project called, Caps of Love; and asked ADCCW (Austin Diocese
Council of Catholic Women) to join them. This is a way we on the
Austin level can make a contribution and help the environment at the
same time. This project just involves collection of hard plastic caps for
recycling; the funds from the sale of these caps will be used to provide
wheelchairs and service dogs for disabled children.
All plastic caps can be used: laundry detergents, hand sanitizers,
beverage caps (water, tea, juice), toothpaste, shampoo, tennis ball can
lids, salad dressing, peanut butter, medicines, etc. The color doesn’t
matter, just wash them place them in a baggie and drop them near the
Holy Trinkets cabinet or at the next SRLG meeting. (Please remove all
of the paper inserts). Mary White and Dot Absnaider will take them to
the next DCCW meeting on October 30th at St. Mary’s in Taylor, Texas.

Transportation Wanted/Needed
We would like to know of any parishioners needing transportation to
Mass on a regular basis and also of any parishioners who are willing to
provide such transportation to those wanting to attend Mass. Please
call the parish office to let us know if you need transportation or if you
are willing to provide transportation. Please call the parish office at
254.793.0273 and please provide your address so that we can
coordinate and match those needing transportation with those willing
to provide transportation.
We are currently in need of someone who is EIM compliant or willing
to become EIM compliant to pick up and accompany a “special needs”
adult, whose disability is more social/communication related. He is 66
years of age and expressing an interest in attending Mass and
reconnecting with his faith.

Saint Vincent’s Corner
In this Sunday’s Gospel we are reminded that loving God isn’t merely
a matter of fervor in our hearts, but that it must be expressed in doing
good for the sake of others.
During this past Lenten season Pope Francis said, “imitating Christ
also includes confronting the abuses, discrimination and violations
against human dignity, which often cause the material poverty
suffered by those who lack the basic rights to food, water, work,
development and equal access to education and healthcare...
sometimes the unjust social conditions that rob people of their dignity
lead to moral destitution—a kind of impending suicide.”
If you would like to imitate Christ by seeing and serving Him in the
poor, you might consider joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Our next meeting will be in Room B of Carr Hall at 6:30PM on
Thursday, 6 November. All are welcome.

Knights of Columbus Oktoberfest Dinner

Interested in volunteering during the holiday season?
The Caring Place is preparing for our annual Coats for Kids and
Holiday Meal Assistance. We are looking for volunteers who would
like to donate their time from November 3rd to November 26th and
help us spread the holiday spirit. Volunteer shifts will be from 10:00
AM – 3:00 PM. Instead of letting a child go through the winter
without a coat, Coats for Kids allows for children to choose a new coat
that matches their own personal style. Along with Walmart gift cards
for a coat, families receive a gift card to HEB to help them with holiday

Prayer of Blessing for Adoptive Families
Loving God, your Son has taught us that whoever welcomes a child
in His name, welcomes Him. We give you thanks for those parents
who have adopted and welcomed those children into their families.

with them and grant to these parents patience and wisdom, that their
lives may show forth the love of Christ as they bring these children up

Catholic Social Teaching Corner
This Sunday we hear the equation that love of God equals love of
neighbor. Pope Benedict XVI says this in his encyclical God is Love:
“Anyone who needs me and whom I can help is my neighbor. The
concept of ‘neighbor’ is now universalized, yet it remains concrete.
Despite being extended to all mankind, it is not reduced to a
generic, abstract and undemanding expression of love, but calls for
my own practical commitment here and now … Love of God and
love of neighbor have become one: in the least of the brethren we
find Jesus himself, and in Jesus we find God.” (#15) Who is the
neighbor we are called to love right now? How will we show
concrete love for them?

Pope Francis on Growing in Love of God and Neighbor
Christians have "far to go" if they seek to be known primarily for
their love of God and neighbor, Pope Francis said. The first law
governing the church as the "People of God" is love, which means
"recognizing God as the only Lord of life and, at the same time,
welcoming others as true brothers and sisters, overcoming divisions,
rivalries, misunderstandings and selfishness." The pope lamented that
brotherly love does not reign in the world, and often not even in
Catholics' communities, neighborhoods, workplaces or even their
homes, "because of jealousy and envy." We must ask the Lord to help
us understand his law of love," he said. "How good, how beautiful it
would be if we loved one another as real brothers and sisters."
"We all have those we like and those we don't like so much. Perhaps
many of us are angry with someone. Let's say to the Lord, 'I am angry
with this person and that one. I pray for him and for her. Let's pray for
those with whom we are angry. It's a good step forward in this law of
love," he said. "Let's do it. Let's do it today."
Pope Francis said that when the Second Vatican Council defined the
church as "the People of God," it recognized that the church belongs
to God and the Christian community was formed by him. It means that
God does not belong to any one people, the pope said, and his
invitation is addressed "to all, without distinction, because God's
mercy wants the salvation of all people. Jesus didn't tell the apostles or
us to form an exclusive group, a group of the elite," but said to go out
to the whole world making disciples of all peoples. "I want to say to
those who feel far from God and from the church, to those who are
afraid or indifferent, to those who think they cannot change: The Lord
calls you, too, to be part of his people and he does so with great
respect and love. He invites you to be part of this people, the people of
God."
Pope Francis told those at his audience that it is the obligation of every
Christian to be a sign of hope and love in the world and to share with
others the joy of being forgiven and saved by God.
"It's enough to open a newspaper to know that evil exists, that the
devil acts," he said. "But I want to say loudly that God is stronger.
When things are "dark, marked by evil, they can change if we bring the
light of the Gospel, especially with our lives," he said. The world needs
the Gospel and the witness of Christian love, he said. And it's up to
Catholics to make sure that the church is a place "where each person
feels welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live according to
the Gospel."
For that to happen, he said, "the church must have its doors open, so
that anyone can come in, and so that we go out and proclaim the
Gospel."
