OVERVIEW
Water in the Bush is the flagship NT Branch annual conference. Held in Darwin every year, it is the premier event
on the local water-industry calendar. The event brings together members of water industry sectors across the NT to
present research and discuss current and emerging issues.
PARTICIPANTS
In 2013, Water In the Bush attracted over 100 key industry personnel, senior water industry figures from a wide
range of Government agencies, dignitaries, as well as representatives from authorities, government departments,
private water companies, contractors, consultants, suppliers and service companies.
LOCATION
Overlooking Darwin Harbour, Hilton Darwin offers fabulous Esplanade views and an ideal location in the heart of
the city. This stylish Darwin hotel is moments from Bicentennial Park, downtown and the Darwin Convention

MEET THE KEYNOTE: Willem Westra van Holthe represents the electorate of Katherine in the Northern
Sponsored by:
Territory Legislative Assembly, having been elected at the 2008 election. Willem
grew up in Brisbane with his Dutch father and Australian mother. He moved to the
Territory in 1984, working as a Police Officer at Maranboy then at Mataranka as
the Police Officer in Charge. After 8 years at Alice Springs, which included 5 years
in Norforce, Willem moved back to Katherine – a region that he loves. He and his
wife ran a small business and became involved in the Katherine Region Tourist
Association, promoting Katherine as a tourist destination. Working as a Police
Officer, owning a business and being on Katherine's peak Tourism body has given
Willem exposure to a wide range of issues that affect Katherine. Willem is the
Minister for: Primary Industry and Fisheries, Mines and Energy, Land Resource
Management, and Essential Services. He is married to Jennie and together they
have three sons.
