Held in Darwin every year, it is the premier event on the local water-industry calendar. The event brings together members of water industry sectors across the NT to present research and discuss current and emerging issues. Willem grew up in Brisbane with his Dutch father and Australian mother. He moved to the Territory in 1984, working as a Police Officer at Maranboy then at Mataranka as the Police Officer in Charge. After 8 years at Alice Springs, which included 5 years in Norforce, Willem moved back to Katherine – a region that he loves. He and his wife ran a small business and became involved in the Katherine Region Tourist Association, promoting Katherine as a tourist destination. Working as a Police Officer, owning a business and being on Katherine's peak Tourism body has given Willem exposure to a wide range of issues that affect Katherine.
