SPECIAL RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
IMPORTANT: Read carefully all GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS.
ENTRIES
1. Entries will close earlier if capacity is reached. See General Rules Entry Requirements for additional explanation. Enter online or mail
entries to Arizona State Fair, Poultry Department
1826 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85007.
2. ENTRY FEE of $3.00 for singles and $5.00 for trios is required and must accompany official entry form. Double cooping fee is $3.00
upon request. All Male Pheasants Require Double Cooping. Make checks payable to “Arizona State Fair.”
3. An exhibition trio consists of one male and two females, of the same breed, variety and age. There will be separate Classes for old and
young trios.
4. Entry must show Breed, Variety, Sex, Age and Band Numbers. Entry forms not properly completed will be returned.
5. Ducks, Geese, Turkeys and Miscellaneous Fowl are to be entered as Singles Only.
6. Entries with improper division or identification will NOT be accepted nor judged and entry fee will be forfeited. NO EXCEPTIONS.
7. Exhibitors must use a separate entry form for each division (large chickens, bantams, ducks, geese, turkeys, and miscellaneous fowl).
8. Any exhibitor or member of his family can enter a maximum of 100 fowl combined.
9. SUBSTITUTIONS will only be permitted under the following conditions: breed, variety, age and sex of the bird substituted must be the
same as the bird withdrawn. Changes involving different breed, variety, age or sex will NOT be permitted, NO EXCEPTIONS.
ELIGIBILITY
10. Entries are open to the world, except quarantined areas.
11. Divisions will be provided for all standard bred poultry recognized by the American Poultry Association, as well as non-standard
purebred varieties. Give full and complete information on your Official Entry Form.
12. All birds must be owned by the exhibitor for a minimum of 30 days prior to Fair.
13. All birds must have numbered leg bands.
14. In all cases, the management reserves the right to reject entirely or accept conditionally any entry or application. FIGHTING GAME
WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
15. Birds showing any evidence of clipped wings will be disqualified.
CLASSIFICATION
16. All varieties of bearded and non-bearded birds (Brd and N-Brd), as well as all varieties of single and rose comb, (SC) and (RC) must
be stated as such.
17. Aracauna chickens are recognized as being rumpless and tufted. Americana chickens are recognized as being muffed, bearded, and
tailed and should be entered as such.
18. All large and bantam chickens hatched prior to January 1, 2014 are classified as Cock or Hen; those hatched since January 1, 2014
are classified as Cockerel or Pullet.
ARRIVAL
19. Check-in time will start at 5:00 pm and entries must be in place before 9:00 pm.
20. Exhibitors will bring their exhibits to the Poultry Building through the McDowell Gate (17th Avenue and McDowell Rd).
21. Buildings will close at 9 pm and open at 10 am.
JUDGING
22. NO SPECIAL POSITION TO BE GIVEN TO ANY EXHIBITOR.
23. Judging will begin at 9:00 am and continue the following day if needed. All judging will be done by comparison. THE JUDGES
DECISION SHALL BE FINAL.
24. No one is to be in the aisle while the judges are working. Any person interfering with judge or judging process in any way will cause his
exhibit to be disqualified. The judges shall not be
required to handle any dirty fowl.
CARE OF EXHIBITS
25. The management reserves the right to place two exhibits belonging to the same exhibitor in one coop.
26. The superintendent shall exercise all possible care of the stock while on exhibit to avoid injury, loss or sickness. Stock will be cared for
in an efficient manner and exhibits will be under the control of the superintendent and his assistants.
27. Poultry will be inspected each morning, and any stock contracting disease will be put in quarantine. Fowl dying in the show will be
disposed of immediately.
28. All eggs become the property of the Arizona State Fair.
PASSES, PERMITS AND VEHICLES
29. Any exhibitor paying entry fees of $30.00 (10 birds) or more will be entitled to five (5) single day passes ONLY. Any additional passes
must be purchased at the gate.
RELEASE
30. NO vehicles will be allowed to drive up to the exhibit building. Please be prepared to cart and/or carry your exhibits to your car.
31. No one will be allowed to remove any exhibit from the coop without the permission of the Superintendent or Assistants.
32. Checkout time will be according to schedule as published in the front of the Exhibitor’s Handbook. All exhibits must be claimed
between the posted hours. The Superintendent will not be responsible for any unclaimed exhibits after that time. All exhibits MUST be
removed from the building by Sunday, October 19, 11:00 pm.
33. Arrangements will be made for exhibitors to enter the Fairgrounds through the McDowell Gate to checkout their exhibits.
34. A close adherence to the above schedule is very important. The Poultry Department Superintendent will appreciate your cooperation.
35. If the exhibitors find it hard to comply with the rules and regulations it is advised not to enter.
AWARDS
SINGLES AND TRIOS: Birds in exhibition trios cannot compete for single prizes, and single birds cannot compete for trio prizes. All birds
are eligible to compete for special prizes.
DISPLAY AWARDS: To be eligible to compete for display awards, an exhibitor must show at least one cock, one hen, one cockerel, one
pullet and one trio, old or young, of the same breed and variety.
Waterfowl and turkey displays consist of two old males, two old females, two young males and two young females.
PREMIUMS
An exhibitor may enter two or more animals in any one CLASS, but no more than two awards will be paid, and only one award in group
classes. Awards obtained by deliberate misrepresentation by the exhibitor shall be canceled, and such exhibitor may be denied the right
to exhibit for at least two successive Fairs. Premiums are paid ONLY from the records of the judge’s books. Ribbons, tags, or cards have
no value as to payment. Superintendents must see that all awards are properly entered therein.
DIVISION 450 – CLASS 001 SPECIAL CONTESTS
TURKEY GOBBLING CONTEST - Saturday, October 18 at 4:30pm. Rules will be posted on the Bulletin Board during the State Fair. Entry
fee $3.00. Send entry fee with regular entry and state band
number of bird competing. Bird must be entered in either the open show or junior show. Entries end day before contest.

$1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve for all seven bantam divisions providing there are a minimum of 25 birds competing, plus a
free listing in the upcoming ABA Yearbook in the section Who’s Who in Bantams. $1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve Champion
in all other classes of 100 or more, plus a listing in the upcoming yearbook in the section Who’s Who in Bantams. All wins in Classes of 100
or more will be denoted with a star* and be retained in the ABA records to accumulate towards the
Master Exhibitor, Master Breeder, and Lifetime Achievement awards. Only ABA members are eligible to compete for the above awards.
Dues are $20.00 per year; $50.00 for three years. New members receive a copy of the quarterly and the latest available copy of the
Annual American Bantam Association Year Book which lists many advertisers and includes a complete breed and variety index. Winners
of ABA awards are listed in the year book under Who’s Who in Bantams. Starred wins are earned in classes of 100 or more in the

STATE MEET
North American Hamburg Society State Meet earn points toward The North American Hamburg Society Exhibitor of the Year awards.
There must be 15 birds and 2 exhibitors in the Large fowl class and 25 birds and 3 exhibitors in the Bantam class. All State meets must be
judged by a APA or ABA licensed judge. Awards are as followed: Hamburg picture awards will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve
Champion Large and Bantam in Open Class and Junior classes. To be eligible for the above points and awards, exhibitors must be
members before the judging. Memberships are: Individual $15, Family $18, Juniors $10, 3 year membership $40 and Lifetime
membership $150. Members receive a quarterly newsletter, a Breeders Directory and up-to-date information from the club.

1. ENTRY FEE of $3.00 for singles and $5.00 for trios is required and must accompany official entry form. Make checks payable to
“Arizona State Fair.” Market turkey entry fee is $5.00 per head.
2. If exhibitor desires to enter in the open poultry department, separate exhibits must be entered.
3. Birds will compete with each other within their breeds, sex and age groups.
4. All poultry must be leg banded and leg-band number must be given on Official Entry Form with name of breed, variety, sex and age
group.
5. All Poultry shall be judged by the standards set forth in the manual of the American Poultry Association.

1. Entries limited to two (2) birds per exhibitor.
2. Enter Birds by sex and variety.
3. Where numbers warrant, birds will be judged by variety, otherwise varieties will be judged together. Birds will also be
grouped by weight (Heavy, Medium, Light).
4. Birds will be judged on tables with handlers. It is required for owners to be present at judging.
5. Only the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market Turkey will be eligible to be sold at Junior Livestock
Auction. Sale at the Auction is an option and not required. Exhibitor of Grand Champion and Reserve Grande Champion
Turkey must notify the Superintendent if you wish to sell at auction. For more information, please see Livestock Exhibitor’s
Handbook.
6. Only Young Toms and Young Hens (hatched since January 1, 2013) may be entered in the Youth Market Turkey Division
7. Birds must have numbered leg band.
8. Minimum weight for a Market Turkey is 15 pounds. Or Turkey of a recognized breed must meet the weight standards for their
breed as outlined in the APA standards of perfections.
THE AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION - An A.P.A. medal plus one (1) year Junior membership (1 per year) will be given
for the following: Champion Large Chicken shown by a Junior, Champion Bantam shown by a Junior, and Champion of Turkey,
Geese and Ducks combined shown by a Junior.
Juniors need not be members to receive these awards.
THE AMERICAN BANTAM ASSOCIATION will give certificate awards for Champion Junior Bantam, Reserve Champion
Junior Bantam and wins will be listed in the yearbook.
