You will learn modern Arabic vocabulary with the Islamic terminology used in the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah and acquire an understanding of hundreds of Qur’anic verses, ahadith, Arabic parables and poetry, preparing you for scholarly pursuits such as Qur’anic exegesis, hadith, fiqh, seerah, history, and classical and modern Arabic literature. This course is taught by a world renowned scholar and qualified teacher from Madinah Islamic University. Brothers and sisters are welcome. Wednesdays 7.30pm to 9.30pm 2nd Floor, Room 208 Quranic Tafsir Course (LIfE) Study the commentary of the final part of the Holy Qur’an: Juzz ‘Amma (part 30) from traditional sources. This golden opportunity will provide you with insights from a world renowned scholar and qualified teacher from Madinah Islamic University. Thursdays 7.30pm to 9.30pm 2nd Floor, Room 208 Reviving the Sunnah - Sirah Nights (LIfE) Stories from the Sahaba(RA) and from the blessed life of the Prophet (SAW). Come and listen to inspiring and thought provoking talks by learned scholars and in so doing increase your love for our Noble Prophet (SAW) and his companions (RA). Fridays 8pm to 9pm Ground Floor Function Hall Monthly Dhikr Gathering Allah (SWT) reminds us in the Holy Qur’an of the importance of remembering Him. With guest speakers to recalibrate our spiritual compass providing short reminders, you will be sure to enjoy an evening meal in good company. To prevent the elderly from feeling isolated and to assist those who may be housebound. Providing useful information to deal with a range of issues including: debt & money matters, housing issues, care homes, welfare benefits entitlement, advice on transport facilities, recreational activities, training on communication skills and most other things that affect your quality of life Mondays (fortnightly) 2pm to 4pm 3rd Floor, IT suite Day Outings Previous visits have included Birmingham, Brighton, Clacton-on-sea, Royal Greenwich Observatory, Ruislip Lido and Weymouth. With further outings already planned, our respected elders can remain socially active, meet new people, develop their interests and spend quality time with friends. Dates will be announced on a regular basis (online & notice boards) Computer Surgeries / IT Basic training sessions on how to troubleshoot and fix common problems which arise on your home computer. Teaching is delivered by local IT professionals. 2nd Saturday of each month 2pm to 4pm 3rd Floor, IT suite 4 Health talks A series of talks bringing in healthcare professionals to share their knowledge and answer common questions on important topics. Past sessions have included ageing eyes, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions and stroke. Come along, learn more about your health, make friends and enjoy a cup of tea! 1st Saturday of each month 2pm to 4pm 3rd Floor, IT suite Tai Chi T’ai Chi Ch’uan is an ancient Chinese martial art which has developed into a popular exercise to maintain health and well-being. Through this low-impact exercise, you will improve cardiovascular endurance and improve posture, strength and balance. Beginners are welcome. Wednesdays 11.30am to 12.30pm 3rd Floor, Dome Hall For Sisters ITEC Classes (English classes & employment skills) The college ITEC hold courses for sisters within the Masjid. The courses are the Certificate in Using Employability Entry 1 and 2. The courses enable learners to improve their English as well as knowledge about searching for jobs and are free to sisters receiving selected benefits. Wednesdays 11am to 1pm 2nd Floor, Room 207 5 Sisters Study Circle (English / Urdu / Dari) You will learn a range of important subject areas of Islam to help strengthen your worship, knowledge and understanding. Topics include: tajweed, fiqh and seerah. You will build confidence and strengthen your relationship with Allah (SWT) as well as the knowledge to provide basic support for the development of your children. A separate class has been set up for our Afghan sisters in Dari. Friday 10.00am to 12.30pm & 3.00pm-5.00pm (New comers) 2nd Floor, Rooms 203 and 204 Qur’an for Beginners (adults) You will learn the basic principles of correct pronunciation of the letters and reciting basic ayahs (verses) within the Quran. You will develop your confidence which will increase your enjoyment when listening to and reciting the Holy Qur’an. Saturday 10.00 am to 1.00pm 3rd Floor, Room IT Suite The Woman in Me (LIfE) A series of one day fun, interactive workshops for Muslim women with Ustadhah Iffet of Dust to Diamonds. An opportunity to hear from the experiences of a young female Aalimah and ask all your questions on key topics of everyday life. Saturday 11th Oct, 6thDec, and in 2015: 7th Feb, 4th Apr 10am to 4pm 2nd Floor, Room 208 Sisters’ Monthly Dhikr &Salat-ul-Tasbeeh Allah (SWT) reminds us in the Holy Qur’an of the importance of remembering Him. These circles of remembrance help us to recalibrate our spiritual compass and focus on glorifying our Creator. We regularly invite special guest speakers to give short reminders and you will be sure to enjoy an evening meal in good company. The subjects include: recitation of the Glorious Qur’an, memorising the last part (juz ‘amma), the rules of prayer, fasting, hajj and zakah, the study of the life of the Prophet (SAW), Aqeedah and contemporary issues affecting Muslims. Saturday and Sunday 10am to 12pm & 12pm to 2pm 2nd Floor Quran Hifz Memorising the Holy Qur’an requires sincerity, commitment and a high level of motivation. As part of the Harrow Central Mosque Madrassa, your child will learn some of the tried and tested techniques of memorising the Glorious Book of Allah (SWT). Small class sizes ensuring focussed study and review of on-going performance with qualified Qur’an teachers. Harrow Central Masjid has invested in sports and recreational facilities to allow our youth to enjoy the Masjid and provide opportunities for you to relax and play in a safe environment. December/January 2015 Rajab: Mi’raj-un-Nabi (peace be upon him) An evening to commemorate the heavenly ascension of our Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the blessed night of 27th Rajab. May 2015 Shaʿbān: Laylatul Bar’at (Nisf Shaʿbān) A special gathering to commemorate the 15th of Shaʿbān, the night of salvation. Including prayers into the night. June 2015 Ramadān: Daily Programmes Talks and activities are delivered daily throughout this blessed month on important topics including: the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Qur’an, hadith, health issues and life-career skills development for the youth. A full Programme detailing all activities each day over the month is distributed separately. June / July 2015 Dhū al-Ḥijjah: Hajj Health Fair and Training Camp You will learn about the important aspects of performing the fifth pillar of Islam, have the opportunity to ask questions to local scholars, Imams and medical professionals and hear inspiring stories from those who have recently completed the journey to the blessed land. September 2014/2015 9 General Services at HCM Nikkah (Islamic Marriage) Services The Nikkah ceremony can be performed either within the Masjid or alternative venues. We make every effort to meet your time requirements and ensure the happy occasion is a memorable one. A Nikkah which is performed in the UK is not considered a valid marriage under English law and as such provides no enforceable legal marital rights. For this reason, we encourage all our community to ensure a civil marriage is conducted in a register office as well. Janaza (burial) prayers Special prayers for the deceased read by our respected Imam before burial together with the Imam’s assistance at the cemetery for further prayers and advices. (Ghusl facilities are soon to become available insha’Allah) New Muslim Support One-to-one support for new Muslims and occasional courses on the basics of Islam for those new to Islam, returning to Islam or just curious about Islam. MP and Councillor Surgeries Our local MP and councillors run regular surgeries at the Masjid offering advice and guidance on any government or council related matter. Please see our website for more details. 10 School visits We welcome and provide guided tours of the Mosque explaining it’s purpose, status and role in Islam and the local community. It provides opportunities for pupils (and teachers) to explore Islam and better understand the tradition they are studying inclass, ask questions to clarify their thoughts and ideas and create an experiential framework for spiritual development and cross-curricular education. We have hosted many of the schools from across Harrow and beyond including Barnet, Brent, Hillingdon Uxbridge and Watford. Interfaith HCM actively supports interfaith dialogue in Harrow. It’s aim is to encourage all peoples, those with religious beliefs and those without, to participate in events and activities which bring people together in order to build mutual respect and understanding. Some of these programs consist of scholarly discussions and some engage larger groups from different faith communities. Events are notified online and on our notice boards. Political engagement (local / national) The Muslim Forum of Middlesex is an umbrella body with representation from many of the largest mosques and Islamic centres in Harrow including Harrow Central Mosque, Stanmore Hujjat, SICM (Mahfil Ali), Masjid al-Nur and the Pakistani Society of Harrow. It’s primary objective is to encouraging engagement in the political process through education , meetings with MPs / PPCs, public events and creating public events and forums.
