President’s Corner
Here it is almost the end of another year. As usual your board has accomplished a lot on range improvement’s
this year again. We did miss our inmates on several occasions, because they were fighting fires and could not
come to our range. So our members picked up the tools and did the work.
It was a big decision to not allow non-members (unless a guest of a member) on the pistol range. But what a
difference it has made. Not as much items shot up down range and much better gun handling being done on
the range. USBR shooting going strong. We will be entering our 8th year of shooting on Thursday morning.
We still have 8 to 10 shooters. We are shooting Air rifles at 0800 and Rimfire at 0900 and on the 2nd and 4th
Thursday we shoot center fire rifle and we are going to start shooting centerfire pistols i.e. Thompson
Contenders and Wichita, and XP100. Same target as we use for Rimfire except shot at 100yds. Should be
challenging. Just waiting for USBR to approve it.
Our meetings are open to any member. It is the 4th Wednesday of the month at Clark Rifles, Inc, in the
Club House, at 6:00pm. We do listen to our members. If you have any comments or suggestion for range
improvements don’t hesitate to contact me, or any board member, by phone or email. This is your range and
we are trying to make it the best we can for you. I really do appreciate members that have come to me and
made suggestions. I will tell you that the first thing the board thinks about is "how many members will this
change affect". We are not perfect, but we do work hard to make this the best shooting club in the area.
Thanks for being members of Clark Rifles, Inc. I know that I put this comment in all of my newsletters, but
we really mean it. If it weren't for our members we would not have a club. I get emails and have people tell
me almost every day what a great club we have. So I really mean it when I say "thanks for being members of
Clark Rifles, Inc.". I also want to thank our board if it wasn't for them we wouldn't get anything done. They
all pitch in and help out with the running of the board. I will say that all the board members are interested in
helping out our members and giving them a great and safe range to shoot.

Chuck’s ‘gun tip of the month’: To shoot at distance - - you have to shoot at distance!
Well, November is fast arriving, it’s just a month away, by the middle of it all of the Members of Clark Rifles
that went Elk Hunting will have begun eating the ‘back strap’ of their multi point Bull Elk and of course they
will then have made sure and renewed their Membership in Clark Rifles for 2015, because upon arriving
home from hunting they excitedly opened the letter, that will go out November 1st , reminding our Members
to renew their Membership for the coming year.

You may not have noticed, especially if you haven’t been to the Range recently, the amount of Range
Maintenance that we have done this year. Actually you really won’t see most of it on the ‘surface’ so to speak,
because much of it is “repair and reconditioning” stuff that simply has to be done in order to keep Clark Rifles
the Premier Range that it is. By the way we will be installing heaters on Range #2 and ‘posumbly’ Range #3
soon.
We want to take time and thank Keith Christensen and Mike Boynton, whom head up the Range Maintenance
Committee, for having done a “stellar” job this year. Thanks also to Bob Cruden, Sam Barker, Rod Lee and of
course Dave Christie and Bob Kadow. These Members have been in attendance at the Work Parties investing
“sweat equity” in the work that gets done
Membership wise we have taken in a few New Members, some that have been waiting several years and some
of whom are our Neighbors, We offer a “Courtesy Membership” to those neighbors living within ½ mile of
our property, and yes I personally step off the distance over hill and dale just to be sure!
Finance wise we are doing well; we are within Budget and should be able to stay on budget for the remainder
of the year which is especially satisfying considering the amount of funds we have spent on Range Up Keep
the past several months
It is a ways before the Annual Meeting but for a heads up the date will be Saturday January 24th at 1:00 PM at
the Range. I bring this up because it is now the time of year to consider Nominations for serving on the Board
of Directors. This year the positions that are up ‘election’ or ‘re-election are’: The Offices of President and
Vice President and the Board Position of Director of Range Safety Officers. Shaun Curtain is heading up the
Nominating Committee.
Well - - I now have scientific evidence that there is definitely and undeniably ‘Global Cooling” now taking
place worldwide! For the last few days I have been counting how many “Yellow Jacket Wasps’ there are in
Battle Ground, WA USA and the numbers are so low that the absolute only explanation is - - - - - - ‘Global
Cooling’ 

IT’S UP TO US
Initiative 594 will go before the voters in November. It will be presented to the voters as a bill which will
help prevent incidences such as the Newtown shootings by requiring a background check on all firearms
transactions. After all most voters would certainly agree that we have to do something and a “simple
background check” certainly makes sense. The devil however is in the details. Here are just a few of the
provisions in the bill.
1. Every firearm sale or transfer must go through a licensed dealer. This includes all private sales and
gifts (except to immediate family members).
2. The dealer must enter every private transfer into his inventory and treat it as a conventional firearm
sale. He may charge "a reasonable fee" which he will determine.
3. A background check must be conducted of the transferee and the documentation retained by the dealer
for six years.
4. The transfer or sale of a handgun must be approved by the chief of police or County Sheriff.
The bill has many more conditions and much more detail than listed above. As firearms owners we must
be aware of the unintended consequences of this initiative. In reality this is a thinly veiled attempt at
permanent firearms registration as all sales will go into a permanent database. This is a particularly
cumbersome process for both the private individual as well as the dealer. As such we have no control over
how much the dealer may charge. Currently there is no sales tax associated with the private sale of firearms
however a use fee or future sales tax could easily be imposed. The inclusion of the local law officers in this
process makes it all the more cumbersome and subject to personal and political agendas.
In short initiative 594 will deal a severe blow to our second amendment rights. It opens the door for
bureaucrats to define how, to whom and at what cost we can sell or trade our personal firearms. This bill will
be an easy sell by the anti-gun groups. It is imperative that we as second amendment supporters talk to all our
friends and acquaintances about the perils of this bill and why it needs to be defeated.

Allied Forces vs. the Axis Powers
Combat Rifle Match

Do not own a WWII rifle? No problem. Any weapon with the capability to fire the rapid stages is
welcomed. SCOPED rifles may also be used (separate class). So bring out that fancy AR or M1A or
whatever and see how you do against the Springfield’s, Mauser’s and Garands.

FEE: $10 for 1 ($5 for successive) relay(s): ½ price for juniors, 20 years and younger.
RULES NOTICE: This is a match for competition; not a training session for those who don't know how
to handle firearms! Competitors should know the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and firearm safety.
Current NRA High Power Rifle rules shall govern. Competitors may fire in as many relays as they wish, but
must do so with a different rifle each time. Accommodations will be made for those with physical disabilities.
EQUIPMENT: Standard "Axis" rifles were the Italian-Carcano, German-Mauser, and Japanese-Arisaka. Standard
"Allied" rifles were the American M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, 1903 Springfield’s, 1941 Johnson, the
Australian/Canadian/British SMLE rifles, French (just about anything they could get their hands on) and
the Russian-Mosin Nagant. Rifle's do not have to be in their original configuration, but do need to be
configured with iron sights (unless shooting scope class). If you think your rifle was used by either side
during WW-II the Match Director will probably allow its use, as many rifles normally associated with
hunting game or home defense were used in the war. Those able to comply with the command "Fix
Bayonets" and who fire with one attached and extended during the entire match will be awarded 10 extra
points. Five extra bonus points will also be given to the longest rifle and bayonet combination and the
shortest rifle and bayonet combination.

Modern Rifles (ex AR15)
Registration starts at 8:30 A.M.. Range capacity limits this match to 20 competitors, 10 per relay.
Position Shooting: Clark Rifles requires that people become certified to shoot from the various positions
found in this match. This must be done prior to the match. Contact Ed Perry [email protected] for more
information. Those shooters that are not certified will fire the match from the bench (Bench shooters not
eligible for prizes).
Uniforms: Participants are encouraged to wear WW-II period attire, the best of whom (by popular vote) will
have their entry fee refunded.
COURSE: 45 Shot Standard Multiple-Stage Course plus sighters.
Sighters: Unlimited at both the 100 and 200 yard targets in 5 minutes (total time for both targets) in
prone/kneeling/sitting position. Repair targets.
First stage:
1. B27 target Standing. 10 rounds in 3 minutes at 200 yards (From magazine or single load). 3
minute break/prep time before next firing.
2. B27R (left target) target Standing. 10 rounds in 3 minutes at 100 yards (From magazine or
single load). 5 minute break/prep time before next firing.
3. B27R (right target) On Bench over sandbags (in position with safeties on) 10 rounds in 60
seconds at 100 yards. One reload mandatory.
4. Score & Repair targets.
Second stage: Firing over sandbags on the Bench. You will start with an unloaded weapon –open bolt
indicator in. (Note: Bolt actions rifles will start with the weapon loaded). At the command “Targets”, you will
load your weapon and fire at all three of your targets (both 100 and 200 yards) with 5 rounds each. Total time
is 100 seconds. (NOTE: You may fire one extra round at your last target. Scoring will only be the top five
hits)

B27 Target
USBR SHOOTING
We shoot the USBR matches every Thursday morning at 0900 to 1200 at Clark Rifles, Inc. We average about
8-10 shooters, the most we have had is 17. We shoot our matches on Thursdays so we don’t interfere with the
weekends. It cost two dollars ($2.00) to shoot. The two dollars ($2.00) pays for targets and one dollar ($1.00)
goes to USBR. We are the only club in the Nation that shoots every week all year around. Most of the clubs
shoot once a month or even every other month.
For those of you that are not familiar with USBR shooting, I thought I would explain it. USBR is rimfire
matches shot with any rimfire gun (Pistol or rifle). You can shoot .17 or .22 rimfires. These calibers shoot in
separate matches. The reason is that the .17 makes a smaller hole and it is tough to compete against the .22’s.

Here are the classes. This is just a condensed version of the rules. At the match we have copies with the full
explanation of the matches and classes.
1. Plinker Class
Plinker Class is intended to provide a competition for persons who are new to benchrest shooting, those who
prefer to use guns more commonly associated with small game hunting, and others who, for whatever reason,
wish to use equipment which is relatively inexpensive. The goal is to prevent Plinker Class from becoming an
"equipment race" in which competitors are forced to expend large sums of money to remain competitive.
Plinker Class records will be kept, but they will not be combined with other scores to create aggregates.
Weight: No limitations.
Barrel & Action: No limitations.
Stock: No limitations.
Scope: 9x, or less
A person wishing to compete in a Plinker Class match must agree to sell Plinker Class gun (minus the scope
and rings, but including all other accessories attached to the gun during the match) to anyone who might offer
to buy it, for the sum of two hundred dollars ($200.00), or have their score disqualified and retain their gun.
The offer must be made any time after the end of the Plinker Class match in which the gun is used, and before
the official end of the tournament. If the owner should refuse to sell it, they will be disqualified in the Plinker
Class match, and the match results will reflect the reason for the DQ.
2. Sporter Class
Unmodified factory rifles. Trigger work, bedding, and/or recrowning is acceptable. Trigger work must be
limited to polishing of surfaces and normal adjustment of the assembly, such that a factory trained technician
would not be able to tell that the assembly had been modified in any way. A recrowned barrel may be no more
than 1/2 inch shorter than original length, and the owner is required to provide any documentation necessary
to verify that this is the case. Pillar and/or glass bedding is acceptable, and the forend of the stock may be
"opened up" in order to free-float the barrel.
Barrel: Unmodified factory with manufacturer's name or logo stamped into the metal of the barrel.
Weight limit: 8.5 lbs. including sights.
Scope: No limit.
Stock: Unmodified factory, convex on all bottom surfaces.
3. Custom Class
Barrel: No limit.
Weight limit: 10.5 lbs. including sights
Scope: No limit.
Stock: Flat or convex bottom surfaces, no wider than 3 inches.
4. Unlimited Class
Anything goes (of course it must be legal under federal, state, and local laws).
We shoot a target with 3 sighters and 25 targets on the page. You have 20 minutes to shoot the sighters and
the 25 targets. 250 is a perfect score.

All shooting is done from the 50 yard line.
We also have handgun classes. Using the same classes as above. This gives you an opportunity to bring out
those Thompson Contender and Anschutz’s you don’t shoot much.
Air Power Division
A. Course of Fire
Twenty-five (25) shots for record, plus unlimited sighters. Maximum time limit is 20 minutes.
B. Classifications
All firearms must have a safe, manually and mechanically operated firing mechanism. We will refer to air
powered guns as firearms, even though we realize that they are not. Handguns may be used in any of the
classes, as long as they meet all other applicable requirements.
1. Unlimited Class (PCP Air Rifle over 600-fps with reg.)
Range: 25 Yards
Action type: Anything goes
Weight limit: No Limit
Barrel: No Limit
Scope: No Limit
Pellet: Any
Stock: No limit
"Scuba" guns may be used while "hooked up" to the scuba tank.
2. PCP Class (Air Rifle over 600-fps with out reg.)

A. Course of Fire
Twenty-five (25) shots for record, plus unlimited sighters. Targets will be placed at 100 yards. The match will
consist of five 12 minute relays with 20 minutes between same relays
B. Classifications
As defined in Section I Part B Paragraph 6 firearms must have a safe operating firing mechanisms and
Handguns may be substituted for rifles as long as they meet all other applicable requirements and as
previously stated in the above paragraph. All firearms must, of course, be safe and legal under federal, state,
and local laws.
1. Plinker Class. Any Centerfire using a scope of no more then 9X magnification and a manual trigger. The
intent of this class is for hunters using one rifle. The Centerfires used in this class do not have to be pure
factory firearms but must have a value of "$500.00" or less minus scope and rings.

2. Sporter/Hunter Class. Any Centerfire weighing less then 10.25 pounds using a scope of no more than 6X
magnification and a manual trigger.
3. Factory class. Any mass produced centerfire rifle with original stock, action, trigger, and barrel, using any
scope. The chamberings are limited to production ammo that is produced by at least two current major
ammunition manufactures. The stock may be bedded and the barrel may be floated. The barrel may also be
recorowned but not be shorter then two inchs of it's original length. The chamber end of the barrel must not be
changed and must be able to chamber a factory round. All factory barrel markings must remain present.
4. Varmint Class. A Centerfire weighing no more than 13.5 pounds with a bore diameter no greater than .244
using any scope and a manual trigger.
5. Unlimited. Any Centerfire less than .50 Caliber. No weight limit. No scope limit.
We have two shooters that hold World Records. We also track club records, for our own use and you get a
certificate for that record.
So if you have a Thursday morning free come on out and shoot with us.
