~Help Us Help Our Kids!~
Many of our volunteers have received
funding for their children through our
nonprofit. Catawba Valley GAL’s
Children’s Assistance Fund has been
approved for a fundraiser by Thrivent
Financial. They will be matching all
donations made from now until OCT 15.
For every $3 raised by us, they will
match $1 up to $1,000.
We have created a CrowdRise sight to
assist us with donations. You can click
on the link below, watch our video, and
then donate. If you can help us by
sharing this link with your friends &
family by email or through social media
it will help us to reach our goal.

**RECRUITING/RETENTION COMMITTEE NEWS**
A huge thank you to the following volunteers and staff for “answering the
call” to help with the many festivals during September: Deborah Reed, Karen
Milner, Laurie George, Lee Traxler, Corinne Green, Tami Barker, and Kristin
Wright. Special thanks go to Kristin Wright for organizing these efforts and for
making sure the GAL program has a presence in the community. The committee
is working hard to find new ways to reach the public about the GAL program
and the need for volunteers.

Continuing Education Update
Sixteen people attended the recent continuing education opportunity presented by Brenda
deLaet with the Children’s Home Society. The subject matter was very informative and helped
us to better understand how child abuse and neglect during the formative years affects the
brain’s growth and development which then affects the way older children behave and make
decisions.
The next opportunity for learning will be held October 29 at 6:00pm at the Catawba Co.United
Way presented by Jason Beebe with the Catawba Co Sheriff’s Department. He will show us
how to recognize drugs and the manufacturing of them in the home. This will be invaluable
information. Invitations will be sent via GroupSpaces, so please RSVP if you plan to attend.
