PROCESS PLANT - COPPER, COBALT SXEW MUTANDA PHASE 3 COPPER-COBALT PROJECT 100Ktpa (Cu) The third phase of the Mumi SXEW project entailed upgrading the two existing Mumi copper/cobalt processing plants (Phase I and Phase II) to increase the combined production of LME Grade A cathodes from approximately 60KTPA to approximately 100KTPA while producing 19.4TPA of contained cobalt as cobalt hydroxide. The treatment rate was increased to 2.43MTPA of ROM ore containing 4.5% copper and 1% cobalt. The upgrade involved the addition of rectifier transformers to Phase I, the addition of mixer-settlers to Phase II and the installation of an additional crud treatment plant and copper electro-winning plant. The overall process circuit was redesigned to ensure increased production and improved metal recoveries. The redesigned process route was defined by experienced SENET process engineers in conjunction with Miller Metallurgical Services, a specialist Australian consultancy with many years of Solvent Extraction and Electro-winning experience. The plant redesign and layout was developed by SENET engineers and designers, and comprised the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation aspects of the project.
