Cyber Safety and Cyber Bullying Addressed at East Wilkes Middle
On October 8th, the sixth through eighth grade
students at EWMS welcomed a guest speaker
who addressed the issue of cyber safety and
cyber bullying. SBI Agent Alan Flora of the
Crimes against Children Task Force has worked
in this field since 1998 and was able to discuss
many dangerous situations that children have
encountered while using social media. The internet is a very valuable and entertaining tool that
can also be dangerous if teens are not careful.
Students learned that they should not post too
much information about themselves, never post
inappropriate pictures, or friend people they do
not know personally.
“King” of Sir ReadAlots Castle
A royal court was present at C. B. Eller Elementary
School as Principal Chad Mann had his official coronation day. As a kick off to the schools’ book fair,
media coordinator, Jamie McCollum organized the
royal festivities. The “king” was proceeded by his
court then presented with a regal cape, scepter and
crowned by “Ruler of the Kingdom” none other
than Wilkes County Schools superintendent, Dr.
Marty Hemric. “King Mann” addressed the subjects
(students) and declared that under his leadership,
all subjects would prosper in the land of learning.
He challenged them to hold high the privileges of
education and reading.

Wilkesboro Elementary Ice Bucket Challenge
Students at Wilkesboro Elementary
School accepted a challenge so
that they could have new laptops
for the school. Students raised a
total of $3,023.82 which surpassed
the PTO goal. Therefore, all teachers got “ICED”. Later in the week
another donation was added for a
grand total of $3423.82. All money
will be used to purchase laptops.
One School One Book
Moravian Falls Elementary School recently received a grant for $500.00 from
Dreams & Kitestrings. This money, when
combined with donations from local
community members, businesses and
Moravian Falls PTO was used to cover
the cost of a book for the entire student
body. Each student received a personal
copy of “The World According to
Humphrey” by Betty Birney. Every adult
in the school will also read the book. The
project was coordinated by Paula
Farmer, media specialist. Pictured with

Director of Dreams & Kitestrings and
Moravian Falls Principal, Shanda Adkins.

Ronda Clingman Students Recognized
Dreams & Kitestrings was honored
to visit Ronda Clingman and present James Yarboro and Presley
Barker certificates and a cash
award of $200.00 which will benefit
their school’s music program. The
organization chose to recognize
James and Presley after they represented their school with wonderful
musical performances at the
Wilkes County School Opening
Convocation. James Sang the National Anthem and Presley played
his mandolin and sang.
We Remember
Several students at
North Wilkes Middle
School released balloons in honor of the
people who died on
911. The name of a
person who lost their
life was written on
each balloon. As the
balloons were released, the students
shouted in unison,
“We Remember!”

T3LC Receives Grant
The Wilkes Community Foundation’s
2014 Community Grants Program has
selected the T3LC Youth Philanthropy Group to receive a grant for
$1,000.00. The grant monies will be
used to enhance the projects T3LC
will complete during the 2014-15
school year. Representing Wilkes
Community Foundation is Amanda
Perry, Director of Community Services. Accepting the check for 3TLC
are Dr. Marty Hemric, Superintendent
and Dennis Huggins, Director of Development for Wilkes County
Schools.
Beanstalk Adventure Playground
The Wilkes Community Foundation’s 2014 Community Grants Program has selected the Flint Hill
Beanstalk Adventure Playground
project to receive a grant for
$1,000.00. Mrs. Beth Horrell, art
teacher at North Wilkesboro Elementary School, has been instrumental in the development of the
school and community playground.
National Jr. Beta Club Art Winner
Ms. Jessica Norman, a student at
West Wilkes Middle School, was
awarded first place in the mixed
media art competition at the National Junior Beta Club Convention in Greensboro.
