With the prevailing weather conditions, two months old castor plants have semilooper and prodenia worms attach which eat leaves leaving the stems alone. Young worms can be controlled by spraying neem seed extract (5 %) or neem oil (3 %) solution. Mature worms can be controlled by spraying chlorpyrifos-20EC in 400 ml of water. DHARMAPURI & KRISHNAGIRI A) Special Weather Advisory Bulletin for Dairy and Poultry Farming: 1. For next four days, the sky will be generally cloudy with chance of fairly widespread rainfall. Maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30°C (86.0°F) and 20°C (68.0°F) respectively. Wind speed will be around 3-4 km/hour mostly from east. Relative humidity will remain high in the range of 86-95%. 2. Prevailing cloudiness and possible rain reduce the temperature below normal level. Hence feed intake in poultry may rise. Further, high moisture content of feed ingredients call for increasing energy density of the diet to control excess feed intake and to sustain normal egg size. Care should be taken while procuring and storing high moisture ingredients. 3. Post mortem observations in birds brought for the diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory, VC & RI, Namakkal revealed death of birds due to wing rot, upper respiratory tract infection and necrotic enteritis. Hence, poultry farmers are advised to test feed ingredients for clostridium load and use good quality feed ingredients along with proper bio-security measures in the farm.
