DISTRICTWISE WEATHER BASED AGRO ADVISORIES
KARAIKAL
Drain the excess water and avoid applying fertilizer to paddy fields during these rainy days.
Thinning and gap filling shall be done 15-20 days after germination in direct sown rice. For
samba paddy crop; apply basal fertilizers viz. DAP (45 kg ) , Urea ( 15kg), Potash (20kg) + Zinc
sulphate (10 kg) + 10 kg neem cake per acre .
PONDICHERRY
Drain the excess water and avoid applying fertilizers during these rainy days.
NILGIRIS
•
Expecting moderate rainfall for next 4 days
•
As there is forecast for moderate rainfall, irrigation has to be given as per the requirement
of the crop, appropriate drainage and sanitary measures may be adopted
•
Moderate rainfall is expected in the next 5 days, the farmers are advised to adopt
mulching to conserve moisture.
•
Due to high humidity, growers are requested to control powdery mildew in gerbera,
maintain proper air circulation and avoid excess humidity. Spray Quintol @ 0.5 g/ lit of
water.
•
Due to rainfall, to control mites in tea, spray Propargite @ 200 ml / 200 lit once in 10
days interval to control mites.
•
Due to continuous rainfall, farmers are advised to, control brown rot in potato, select
brown rot disease free tubers. Give proper drainage facilities. Remove and destroy the
affected plants.
•
In beans, collar rot can be controlled by drenching with Copper hydroxide 2g/lit in the
root zone.

Due to continuous rainfall, drainage is very necessary for all the standing crops
especially for turmeric, cotton and maize. With the begging of dry spell, spray 1% urea
solution against yellowing of leaves.
Against mosquito breeding, water stagnation must be avoided in cattle and poultry
sheds.
With the continuous rain, mango tree may put higher vegetative growth and hence spray
1% Potassium nitrate or paclobutrazol @10gm a. i / tree
Winter Cambodia Cotton may get affected with reddening disease due to continuous
rainfall. With begging of dry spell, spray mixed solution of 5% Magnesium sulphate +
urea 1% + zinc sulphate 0.1% at 50th / 80th days of sowing.

A) Special Agroadvisory from Krishi Vigyan Kendra:
1. With the prevailing weather conditions, two months old castor plants have semilooper and
prodenia worms attach which eat leaves leaving the stems alone. Young worms can be controlled
by spraying neem seed extract (5 %) or neem oil (3 %) solution. Mature worms can be controlled
by spraying chlorpyrifos-20EC in 400 ml of water.

A) Special Weather Advisory Bulletin for Dairy and Poultry Farming:
1. For next four days, the sky will be generally cloudy with chance of fairly widespread rainfall.
Maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30°C (86.0°F) and 20°C (68.0°F)
respectively. Wind speed will be around 3-4 km/hour mostly from east. Relative humidity will
remain high in the range of 86-95%.
2. Prevailing cloudiness and possible rain reduce the temperature below normal level. Hence feed
intake in poultry may rise.
Further, high moisture content of feed ingredients call for
increasing energy density of the diet to control excess feed intake and to sustain normal egg
size. Care should be taken while procuring and storing high moisture ingredients.
3. Post mortem observations in birds brought for the diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease
Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory, VC & RI, Namakkal revealed death of birds due to
wing rot, upper respiratory tract infection and necrotic enteritis. Hence, poultry farmers are
advised to test feed ingredients for clostridium load and use good quality feed ingredients along
with proper bio-security measures in the farm.
