The new material is very lab-intensive and will require some practice on the equipment to feel comfortable with the new topics. The most difficult semester for new topics. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 12 Instructor Requirements • Graduation requirements include online exams and SBAs. • Chapter exams are optional, but are activated for practice. • Final exams must be passed with 80% proficiency on the first attempt or 85% for the second attempt. If a third attempt is required it will need to be approved through the Help Desk and score required is a 90% • SBA for CCNA 2-4 can be conducted remotely via NETLAB. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 13 Cisco to CATC Delivery Model • 100% remote delivery. • Cisco WWE is currently training CCNA CATC core instructors in CCNA Bridge courses. • Goal is to have at least one trained instructor from each CCNA CATC. • Format is self-study with additional help via WebEx sessions. • Instructors can take chapter exams and final exams at any time. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 14 CCNA Bridge Final Exams & SBAs • Each instructor has a total of four (4) attempts to pass the online final exam. • If these attempts are used in ANY other class, the instructor may be unable to take the online final in the official Bridge class without a database override. • Instructors cannot issue database overrides. Only the Help Desk can grant a third and fourth attempt. • CCNA CATC instructors will receive the skillsbased assessments as they participate in Bridge classes. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 15 Bridge Training Timeline • December 2003 - At least one CATC instructor from each CATC demonstrate proficiency on all 4 courses. • Jan. 2004 to Apr. 2004 - CATCs offer remote Bridge classes to RAs (This may already be occurring.) • Apr. 2004 to July 2004 - RAs offer remote Bridge classes to Locals. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 16 CATC to RA Delivery • CATC to RA delivery can be 100% remote or any combination of remote and inperson. • We suggest no more than 25 instructors per remote class. • You can run multiple remote classes. • Exam activation can pose a problem. It is worth the time to activate all chapter exams for the duration of the course and the final exam for the last few days. • Set a policy that timed-out exams will not be re-activated, or you will spend your days searching for and reactivating these. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 17 Full Course Instructor Training for 3.0 • Delivery guidelines for full training are in development. We will try to stay with the current number days for each semester, but that decision has not been made. • As Academies are offering full 3.0 instructor training, we are gathering their thoughts and ideas about what the new training model looks like. • Feedback is welcomed as we develop the training guidelines for full course 3.0 instructor training for both CCNA and CCNP. • Bridge training should be offered for instructors who are certified on previous versions of the curriculum. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 18 3.0 Student Courses • Students will be challenged by new assessment. • Instructors can utilize the Instructional Update to create a custom path through the curriculum. • Instructors should be aware of the flexibility they have in assigning student grades. Remember that Cisco does not determine a student’s grade. Online assessments should be just a part of the overall evaluation process. • New content will better prepare students for new industry certification. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 19 Voucher Exams • Recently, there has been some concern raised about the number of overrides being requested for the Voucher exam. • Currently that exam is not mandatory (about 75% of students worldwide currently take the voucher exam) … so students can graduate without taking the exam. • The problem arises when a student who has NOT taken the voucher exam makes a request to take the exam and qualify for a voucher after graduating from the class. • In order to allow a student to take the voucher exam after the class end date, an override must be completed by the Help Desk. Lately there have been a number of these requests. • If your students want a certification exam voucher, please be sure to have them take the voucher exam before the class ends. This will ensure that the student can take the exam without needing an override and receive the voucher in a timely manner. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 23 PASS (Plan for Academy Student Success) • Creates a “map” of optional and core TIs and labs for CCNA1 • 38 of 212 TIs in CCNA1 version 3 have been marked as “optional” • Optional TIs will be removed from the Final exam, the Voucher exam and the Module exams. • Instructors can choose to “skip” the optional topics to allow students more time to concentrate on the core topics. • Some optional topics are very difficult…skipping these will help struggling students. • No harm for students seeking CCNA certification. Optional content is not tested on cert exam. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 24 Core and Optional TIs • Optional TI’s will not be assessed. • Core TI’s will prepare students to design, build and maintain networks. These topics will also prepare students for industry certification. • Using the Instructional Update as a guide, Academy instructors can adjust content and delivery to accommodate different student groups. • Emphasis on instructor empowerment. (Cisco does not determine a student’s grade…an instructor does this using a variety of methods.) Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. Instructors who pass the new CCNP exams will be able to submit their certification records to the Support Desk to be grandfathered for the related on-line exam(s) for CCNP 3.0. All skills based exams will still need to be successfully completed. Instructors who pass the CCNA 640-801 exam will be able to submit their certification records to the Support Desk to be grandfathered for the CCNA 1-4 bridge finals. All skills based exams will still need to be successfully completed. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 36 FAQs • Will instructors ever have to attend 3.0 training? Instructors who do not pass the on-line and skills based exams for the Bridge courses in the remote environment will be required to participate in formal training until they succeed in demonstrating proficiency in the Version 3.0 courses they plan to teach. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 37 FAQs • What are the pre-requisites for an instructor to offer a Bridge course? Before August 2004, instructors must have successfully completed any one of the following courses to be able to create a 3.0 full or Bridge Course: The equivalent CCNA or CCNP full course in Version 3.0 and Academy Orientation The equivalent CCNA or CCNP Bridge course in 3.0 and Academy Orientation The equivalent CCNA or CCNP course preversion 3.0 (Versions 1.x or 2.x) and Academy Orientation. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. If an instructor is not teaching CCNA2 in August 2004, he can delay his Bridge training for that course and prepare for the courses he will be teaching in August 2004. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 39 FAQs • Can a parent academy require a local to be certified on each course before teaching 3.0? No. But Cisco highly recommends that instructors prepare to offer classes in 3.0 and Cisco trusts that most parent Academies try to do what is best for students in requiring formal training of the instructors in their tree. A reminder that in August of 2004 instructors who have not demonstrated proficiency in 3.0 courses will likely be required to attend formal training until they demonstrate proficiency in all courses they plan to teach. Presentation_ID © 2003 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 40 FAQs • Can the Bridge Courses be taken out of order or do they have to be taken in sequential order? Yes! Bridge courses can be taken in any order. • When will the “old” CCNA/NP exams retire for Academy students and instructors?
