“Green Airline Marketing: Issues, Perceptions and
Developments”
Robert Mayer is Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the
Division of Logistics, Transport and Tourism at the University
of Huddersfield. Robert mainly teaches air transport and
tourism management, both at Huddersfield as well as other UK
and overseas universities. Robert holds a degree in
Economics and Business and an MSc in Air Transport
Management. Previously, Robert worked for Austrian Airlines
in the Customer Relations department. His research interests
include airline marketing and environmental marketing.

“How to use new technology to engage Gen x/ y and
z and motivate them”
Mary-Jane (MJ) Flanagan is an experienced director, leader
and operator having spent over two decades in the hospitality
industry working for Forte Hotels, Bass Taverns and setting
up brands of restaurants and bars. She has a degree in Hotel
and Catering Management and is currently studying for a BSc
Hons in Psychology. Since joining Purple Cubed in early 2003
MJ has become one of its most popular facilitators and
inspirational presenters. MJ has delivered highly successful
programmes for organisations including: The Dorchester
Collection, Windsor Royal Lounges Heathrow, L’atelier Joel
Robuchon, Zuma Dubai, Silversea cruises and many other
global institutions.

How can Vienna increase average room rate and stay
competitive with top (eastern) European destinations
– a presentation of a Young Hotelier”
Growing up in her parents family run hotel in the Netherlands,
Maaike Schoenmakers was destined to pursue a career in
tourism. After finishing her degree, which included
international hotel traineeships in Paris and London, she
gained experience in the tourism industry in different stations
around the world. Among others, Maaike completed a
management trainee at the Westin Stamford Hotel in the USA
and worked as an Onboard Food & Beverage Manager at
Etihad Airways, based in the UAE. In 2009 Maaike moved to
Vienna and gained further hotel experience at the Palais
Coburg and since 2 years she holds the position of Director of
Group & Events at the Hotel Imperial Vienna. In April 2013
Maaike was awarded “Young Hotelier of the Year” and won a
scholarship for the MBA Program at MODUL University.

"Park Hyatt Vienna: preopening and opening of a new
hotel brand & luxury area in the city"
Barbara Vopelka is Associate Director of Sales & Marketing at
the new 5* hotel Park Hyatt Vienna. In this current position she
is responsible for marketing, sales and product development in
the areas of business & leisure travel, meetings, events and
incentives. The official opening is planned for June 01, 2014.
After finishing tourism school, she started with a service
experience in St. Moritz at the “Suvretta House” before
becoming a member of the pre-opening team of the “Palais
Coburg”. After that she joined the “Grand Hyatt Berlin” for about
2,5 years. She then moved back to Vienna and supported the
“Badeschiff” during the opening period in all F&B issues. Then,
she opened the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom as a member of
the convention team. After three years with Sofitel and “back to
the roots” she is with Hyatt again.

“Business and ethics: a contradiction? Ethical
challenges in the hospitality industry”
Michael Cortelletti is Owner and CEO of CO.TI Restaurants
SAS in Verona, Italy. Michael holds a MSc in Political and
Social Sciences from the Catholic University of the Sacred
Heart in Milano and a MSc in Tourism Economics from
Bocconi University in Milano as well as a MMH in Hospitality
from Cornell University in Ithaca, NYC. Michael started his
career as Project Manager Business Development for
Nordsee and then held a number of positions at Dunkin‘
Donuts including International Business Manager, Director
Europe, Director Europe & Middle East, Director Europe,
Mexico and Central America, International Director Europe,
Middle East, Africa & India. Since 2009, he is owner and
CEO of CO.TI Restaurants in Verona, Italy.

“Hotel Project Development: An Update on Current Trends in
Operator Search, Investment, and Financing"
Christian Walter is Managing Director with PKF hotelexperts
in Vienna. He works in the field of operator search and
selection and gives advice regarding the commercial and
legal aspects of hotel operating agreements. Christian is a
guest lecturer at various universities as well as a member of
the Cornell Hotel Society. He gained experience in hotel
operations during traineeships at Brenner's Park-Hotel &
Spa, Baden-Baden and at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten
Kempinski, Munich. From 2003 to 2004, he worked for PKF
hotelexperts in Munich and, in 2005, he changed to PKF
hotelexperts in Vienna.

“Hotel Project Development: An Update on Current Trends in
Operator Search, Investment, and Financing"
Florian Kollenz is Senior Consultant with PKF hotelexperts
in Vienna. His main fields of activity are corporate finance
and operator selection services, advice regarding the
commercial and legal aspects of hotel operating
agreements and the valuation of hotels and hotel groups.
Before starting with PKF hotelexperts in 2008, Florian
worked several years for the Austrian Hotel and Tourism
Bank in Vienna. Previously, he gained operational
experience, amongst others with the Meliá Hotels
International at the Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque Resort on
Tenerife.
