Motivational Gifts
Bible Perspective
 “Now
therefore ye are no more strangers and
foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of
the household of God; {20} And are built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus
Christ himself being the chief corner stone; {21} In
whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord: {22} In whom ye
also are builded together for an habitation of God
through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22
Review of First Two Lessons
Fitly Framed’s goal: to help you be fruitful
and fulfilled in a meaningful place of service
Fitly Framed’s process of discovery, consultation,
and service
Why we are to serve: to glorify God and edify
others
How we are to serve: according to our passion,
motivational gifts, and temperament
We have talked about finding your passion and
finding a place for it to be utilized.
Motivational Gifts
 Today
we will open our discussion of the
second element of the process: our
motivational gifts.
1. We
will look at several elements of serving
as a body in the church.
2. Identify
3. Identify
another step to being more aware.
several key points concerning
diversity.
What is a Motivational Gift?
 There
are three important things to keep in
mind as we discuss motivational gifts:
1. Motivational
2. There
gifts are God-given.
are no right or wrong motivational gifts.
3. Motivational
gifts answer the “What” question
(What do I do when I serve?).
Gifts God Has Given the Church
1.
The gifts of the spirit (manifestation gifts) in 1
Corinthians 12:7-10:
 “But
the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to
profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of
wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same
Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the
gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the
working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to
another the interpretation of tongues:”
Gifts God Has Given the Church
2. Then there are the equipping gifts recorded in
Ephesians 4:11-13:

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets;
and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and
teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of
Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and
of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect
man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of
Christ:”
Gifts God Has Given the Church
3. The third type of gift is listed in
Romans 12:6-8. To designate these gifts,
we will call them motivational gifts.
Charsima is the Greek word used here.
It is the same word used in 1 Peter 4:10.
Romans 12:4-8
 “For
as we have many members in one body, and all
members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many,
are one body in Christ, and every one members one of
another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the
grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us
prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or
ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that
teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on
exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity;
he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy,
with cheerfulness.”
Defining the Motivational Gifts
 Prophets
--clearly perceive the will of God.
 Server--lives
to serve others. A good word for
this person is “doer.”
 Teacher--lives
to communicate truth. A teacher
loves to research.
 Exhorter--loves
to encourage others to live in
victory. These are extremely positive people
who can equally well be called “encouragers.”
Defining the Motivational Gifts
 Giver--one
who loves to give time, talent,
energy, and means to help others and
advance the Gospel.
 Administrator--loves
organizing, leading,
and directing. Other words - facilitator or
leader.
 Mercy
Person--shows love and care to those
in need. Another word is compassion
person.
Putting The Gifts in Perspective
 In
Romans 12:1-5, there are several applicable lessons:

Verse 1: Paul says all believers are to present
themselves to God as living sacrifices.

Verse 3: We learn first that we are to have a right
attitude about ourselves.

Verse 4-5: We learn to discern the various gifts. These
gifts are the motivating forces of our lives, and unless
they are channeled, we cannot help but feel frustrated.
Everyone is Gifted
 “As
every man hath received the gift, even so
minister the same one to another, as good
stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (I
Peter 4:10)
 These
seven motivating gifts make us act as
we do. Each one of us receives one or more
gifts.
 So
what do we do with them?
What do we do with these gifts?
 Use
them to benefit others. Outflow is
essential for life.
 We
are not to neglect our gift (I Tim. 4:14). One
translation refers to the “in thee gift. . .”
 Our
gift colors all that we see.
 Each
gift is of equal value.
 What
we are is God’s gift to us.
 What
we make of our lives is our gift to God.

In Huddle Groups, Discuss:
1.
List one person you know who fits in each group.
Why do you think they have that particular gift?
2.
In examining the list of seven motivational gifts,
what gifts do you think you have dominant in
your life?
3.
Do you feel that you have used that motivational
gift in a way that truly serves others within the
body of Christ?
4.
Although you may not specifically know what
your gift is, what area do you see your
motivational gift and passion moving you
towards?
Summary
