These include: tour operators travel agents transport providers. For this reason, they are often referred to as the middlemen of the industry. Travel agents need to know the many different products and services that are on offer, in order to be able to recommend the right products and services to the customer. Travel agents earn commission for the products and services they manage to sell. Do you know what these are? Scheduled (e.g. Virgin Atlantic, British Airways) These operate to a published timetable. Flights must depart on schedule regardless of how many seats are booked. Charter (e.g. Thomson Airways, Monarch Airways) These are usually contracted for a specific holiday season. The airlines rent out their aircraft to package holiday companies, who fill up the seats with their customers. Its Eurotunnel and Eurostar services have meant tourists can get to Europe faster than ever. Direct destinations include Lille, Calais, Disneyland Paris and Brussels. High speed connections to many other destinations around Europe are also offered.
