A Note to Our Booksellers:
Lloyd Ferriss, ©2012
How do you feel about self-published books?
S
elf-published books are here to stay. The entire movement to selfpublishing has presented local bookstores with challenges when it
comes to quality and ease of ordering. We offer a solution—we call it
“cooperative-style independent publishing.”
Although we look and act like a traditional publisher—offering
a catalog, distribution, trade discounts and return periods—we are
different. The authors (not the publisher) receive 100% of the royalties from the books you buy
and sell.
We support local businesses and have worked to create support for bookstores in new ways.
To make sure the books sell, we train our authors to become their own publicists by offering two
full-day book-marketing workshops a year. We offer $100 worth of FREE books to stores that
participate in our “Partner Program” (see page 14 or our website for details). We also support
local bookstores by providing FREE promo posters, press releases and up to 2,000 full-color,
custom-made bookmarks for you with your logo on them. We can organize multi-author events
and signings for you. We even pay for the refreshments!
Our goal is to make it easier for YOU, the bookstore buyer to order and sell independent
books—books that you can be confident in for quality, editing, promotion, and design. We vet
each book and offer a place for you to confidently refer authors to, so that you are not forced to
deal one on one with every self-published author who comes in your door.
Please contact us if you would like us to present a workshop about cooperative selfpublishing or if you would like one of our trained sales reps (our volunteer authors) to show
our books and talk to you about ways we can support keeping our local bookstores a healthy
“hub” for writers and readers in our community.
Sincerely,
Boston

Brooke Pacy
A photographer on the brink of celebrity suddenly disappears from Nantucket
Island, leaving nothing behind for the people who love her except a journal.

the World Wars, her story is an odyssey, exploring the channels brutality can
carve through lives and spirits. She searches for refuge, as her Lithuanian
grandmother did before her, and must learn where to look and whom to trust.
BROOKE PACY credits a casually supervised childhood in Chappaqua, New York; Mt. Desert Island;
and Nantucket for a deep affinity with saltwater and woods. She raised four children; taught literature;
wrote in Baltimore, Maryland; and spent seven summers sailing the Atlantic Coast with her second
husband. She now lives year round in midcoast Maine.

One of our most important goals for our company is to employ new ways of supporting our community’s
locally-owned bookstores. We have spoken with many of you and heard your challenges, your goals and
your suggestions. In response, we have identified ways that we can work together to support both local

combination of topics in your store.
• Hold multi-author events. We handle all the publicity for any event, from posters and flyers to
email blast, social media and news releases. We bring our own network of friends, fans, and
family to your store.
• Show your support for local authors! We will design, print and deliver 2,000, FREE, full-color,
custom-made bookmarks with your full store logo and store contact information on the front. The

A great way to buy and sell more books by local writers!
Hear what authors have been saying about us!
“… meticulous in every detail of production, including great editing, classic cover
design and a detailed marketing plan. Boston Writers Publishing sustains adamant
professionalism in each of those aspects and more. They fulfill orders from book buyers
without delay. In short, they care about the writer, the appearance and success of his
book, and the satisfaction of his customers, the book stores. I feel very fortunate to have
selected Boston Writers Publishing.”
—Jeff Foltz, author of Birkebeiner, A Story of Motherhood and War
and Two Men Ten Suns
“I’ve worked with traditional publishers before, but chose Boston Writers Publishing for
my latest book because of their reputation for offering the kind of personalized service
and marketing support rarely found anymore. I’ve been more than pleased. Theirs is
a unique hybrid of traditional publishing services and the author-directed freedom
that defines self-publishing. From copy editing and book design through printing and
distribution, Jane Karker and crew expertly guide authors through the myriad decisions
to be made when a book is coming to market, supporting them from start to finish.” —Darcy Scott, author of Matinicus: An Island Mystery and Reese’s Leap
Phoebe Cole Photography
All of the photographs used in this catalog are courtesy of
Phoebe Cole, a Boston resident. A recent Simmons College
graduate, Phoebe has a background in Arts Administration,
and traditional and digital photography. She states:
“Boston was the largest city I visited regularly growing up.
I moved there for school in 2009 and began to photograph
my new surroundings. I shoot best in places where I feel
comfortable and are familiar to me because then I can hone
in on slight variations from the normalcy of the environment.
It is those variations that interest me most.”
