on Saturday, September 20,
2014 with our community partners Epic Bible College, Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce, Sacramento Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce, STEMScience, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Girl
Scouts. There were approximately 70 attendees at the
workshop. The chapter had alumni
from Harvard Medical School, Stanford Law School, John Hopkins School
of Public Health, UC Berkeley, UCLA,
Sacramento State, and Epic Bible College come speak about their application experiences.

Santa Clara County Voter Registration Drive
The 2014 Santa Clara County Voter Registration Drive is a joint effort between APAPA
and United Asian Americans for Activism
(UAAFA). An estimate of over 1,500 citizens
have registered to vote from this program.

APAPA-ATC Partners with APIAVote
On August 23, 2014, APAPAATC partnered with APIA Vote
for the Norman Y. Mineta Leadership Institute 2014 Regional
Trainings. The free event took
place at the Asian American Resource Center in Austin, Texas.
Attendees were invited to join
the effort to increase voter participation and learn how participation can make an impact on
issues such as employee discrimination, immigration, economy,

APAPA-New York Chapter (APAPA-NYC)
APAPA-NYC Internship Gala
APAPA-NYC successfully held their first Annual Summer Internship Award & Scholarship Fundraising
Gala on August 17, 2014 at Grand Restaurant in Flushing, New York. A total of 15 interns graduated
from the Summer Internship Program.
The interns served in offices at the local, state and federal levels and performed a range of different
tasks, including voter registration, language translation, office outreach, answering constituents’ questions, and community outreach.
Special guests in attendance included Grace Meng, Congresswoman; Toby Ann Stavisky, New
York State Senator; Tony Avella, New York State Senator; Peter Koo, NYC Councilman; John
Liu, former NYC Comptroller and candidate for State Senate; and Nelson Huang, APAPA-SCR
Chair, to name a few.

2014 API Annual International Leadership Alumni Conference
Over 70 interns and alumni attended the Alumni Conference on August 8-10, 2014. The attendees were alumni
of sister organizations from APAPA, CAUSE, APALI, and VNA. Along with APAPA’s alumni residing in California,
alumni from Texas, Florida, and New York came to represent their respective chapters. In addition, students

150th Anniversary Celebration of Chinese Building the
US Transcontinental Railroad
2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of Chinese
immigrants’ contributions to the building of the
first transcontinental railroad. In 1865, these immigrants were enlisted by the Central Pacific Railroad
to lead in the building of the most challenging section of the transcontinental railroad up and over
the Sierra Nevada mountains. There were 15 tunnels over the course of the construction, and the
longest was called the Summit with a length of
1,659 feet.
