SUMMER/FALL 2014 PAGE APAPA-Central Valley Region (APAPA-CVR) College Application Workshop Seminar Assemblymember Dr. Richard Pan speaking on stage at the College Application Workshop Seminar at APAPA’s Headquarters in Sacramento, CA APAPA-CVR’s first college application workshop took place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 with our community partners Epic Bible College, Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce, Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, STEMScience, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Girl Scouts. There were approximately 70 attendees at the workshop. The chapter had alumni from Harvard Medical School, Stanford Law School, John Hopkins School of Public Health, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Sacramento State, and Epic Bible College come speak about their application experiences. APAPA-Bay Area Region (APAPA-BAR) Santa Clara County Voter Registration Drive The 2014 Santa Clara County Voter Registration Drive is a joint effort between APAPA and United Asian Americans for Activism (UAAFA). APAPA-Austin Texas Chapter (APAPA-ATC) APAPA-ATC Partners with APIAVote On August 23, 2014, APAPAATC partnered with APIA Vote for the Norman Y. Mineta Leadership Institute 2014 Regional Trainings. The free event took place at the Asian American Resource Center in Austin, Texas. Attendees were invited to join the effort to increase voter participation and learn how participation can make an impact on issues such as employee discrimination, immigration, economy, education, and health care. APAPA-New York Chapter (APAPA-NYC) APAPA-NYC Internship Gala APAPA-NYC successfully held their first Annual Summer Internship Award & Scholarship Fundraising Gala on August 17, 2014 at Grand Restaurant in Flushing, New York. A total of 15 interns graduated from the Summer Internship Program. The interns served in offices at the local, state and federal levels and performed a range of different tasks, including voter registration, language translation, office outreach, answering constituents’ questions, and community outreach. The attendees were alumni of sister organizations from APAPA, CAUSE, APALI, and VNA. Mann has been a case manager at the Turning Point Community Programs, Northgate Point Regional Support Team since 1998. She is president and founder of the To’utupu ‘oe ‘Otu Felenite Association (TOFA) and a member of the Health For All Board of Directors, the Pacific Rim Foun- dation Board of Directors, the Council of Asian Pacific Islanders Together for Advocacy and Leadership Executive Committee and the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association Board of Directors. In 1865, these immigrants were enlisted by the Central Pacific Railroad to lead in the building of the most challenging section of the transcontinental railroad up and over the Sierra Nevada mountains. There were 15 tunnels over the course of the construction, and the longest was called the Summit with a length of 1,659 feet.
