Her Glam Wisdom
“Makeup is the beauty
equalizer,” says Banks, here
in L.A. “Wearing it completely
evens the playing field.”

ou know those women who can put on a full face in
minutes—on the subway or stopped at a red light?
Tyra Banks is one of them. “When I first started modeling, I’d complain to my mom that I didn’t have cheekbones like Christy Turlington’s, and she was like, ‘Girl,
paint them on,’ ” says the America’s Next Top Model host. Banks
learned to do just that, turning herself into something of a makeup
savant by studying techniques from her mom and the best backstage pros. “I got so good that girls like Heidi Klum were lining up
for me to do their makeup at fashion shows!” This month Banks
translates her know-how into a namesake beauty line that makes
it easy for all of us to get gorgeous. We followed her into the backseat to witness her products—and skills—in action. Take a look….

Her Cream
Shadow
Eyes in a
Stick in Once
You Go
Brown ($24)
“The first thing I do is sweep a brown shadow stick along my top and
bottom lashes. I just slap it on—the messier, the better. Then I smudge
the heck out of it with my finger. I’ll get up into the creases if I
want more depth and definition. But do your eyes in a safe zone like
a bathroom or at your desk before getting into a moving car.”
TIP
“If you’re extra pressed for time, try using a specific finger for each product so you don’t need to wipe it off every second.”
ADD LINER AND MASCARA
Her Goofproof
Eyeliner
Oops Liner in
Blackblackblack
($26)
“My liner game used to be a hot mess. I fussed with Q-tips
and makeup remover to fix my boo-boos, but everything
would smear. That’s the reason I designed my Oops Liner
with a liner liquid on one end and a corrector on the other.
Now I just go for it, because I can sharpen those wings
instantly. You don’t need any skills! Then I hit my lashes
with at least three coats of mascara. Twirl the
wand as you swipe for clump-free application.”
CONTOUR YOUR FACE
Her Cheekbone Maker
Sculpt in a
Stick in Deep
($24)
“Makeup artists like Kevyn Aucoin and Charlotte Tilbury shared this
trick: Swipe a nude contour crayon from the center of your ears
diagonally down—right under cheekbones—to about an inch and a half
away from the corner of your mouth. Next, shade along the top of your
forehead near your hairline, from temple to temple, and down both
sides of your nose. Then pat it all in with your middle finger to blend.”
TIP
“Don’t contour with blush—that’s so eighties. It was an amazing trend then, but it’s not hot now. Instead, go for a neutral contour color
that’s one or two shades deeper than your skin tone.”
BE PRECISE WITH YOUR HIGHLIGHTER
“I apply the shimmer cream from the top
of my cheekbones out toward my temples and
use my index finger to diffuse the sheen.
That way my whole face isn’t scary frosty—it’s
just glowy right where I put it.”
TIP
“Dab—don’t rub—cream formulas onto your skin. Rubbing washes out the color, so do that only if you’ve put on too much.”

BLUSH IT UP
Her Color
Stain
Cheek in a
Stick in Sexy
Hot Flash
($24)
“If I want that wind-flushed look, I dot the apples of my
cheeks with the blush stick and tap. If I’m feeling that
super-sexy tint, then I glide on the stick to get more color.”
TIP
“Set cream colors with a finishing spray so they’ll last
longer. Hold the bottle eight inches away from your face,
and make sure to get the sides.”
FINISH WITH LIPSTICK
“It’s my jam. And my application is always on point, even without
a mirror. I’ll do a swipe in the center of my top and bottom lips
with my mouth open, then press my lips together to smooth out the
color. A rosy shade that’s somewhere between a balm and a stain,
like my What Lipstick? in Ask for a Raise, is sheer gorgeousness.
For everyday, one swipe is effortlessly chic. But
for more ‘shazam,’ I’ll pile on a few layers.”
